The 2020–21 Utah State Aggies men's basketball team represented Utah State University in the 2020–21 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Aggies, led by third-year head coach Craig Smith, played their home games at the Smith Spectrum in Logan, Utah as members of the Mountain West Conference. They finished the season 20–9, 15–4 in Mountain West play to finish in second place. In the Mountain West tournament, they defeated UNLV and Colorado State before losing to San Diego State in the championship game. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 11 seed in the South region, where they lost to Texas Tech in the first round.
Following the season, Smith left the school to accept the head-coaching position at Utah. [1] Shortly thereafter, the school named UMBC head coach Ryan Odom the team's new head coach. [2]
The Aggies finished the 2019–20 season 26–8, 12–6 in Mountain West play to finish in a three-way tie for second place. They defeated New Mexico, Wyoming and San Diego State to become champions of the Mountain West tournament, their second consecutive Mountain West tournament championship. As a result, they received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. However, on March 12, 2021, the NCAA Tournament was canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The Texas A&M Aggies men's basketball team represents Texas A&M University in NCAA Division I college basketball. The Aggies compete in the Southeastern Conference. Since 1998, the teams has played its home games at Reed Arena, a 12,989-capacity arena in College Station, Texas on the campus of Texas A&M University. The Aggies are currently coached by Buzz Williams who was hired on April 3, 2019, prior to the start of the 2019–2020 season.

Ryan Odom is an American men's college basketball coach who is currently the head coach of the Utah State Aggies men's basketball team. He was previously the head coach of the Lenoir–Rhyne Bears and the UMBC Retrievers. Odom served as the interim head coach of the Charlotte 49ers men's basketball team from January 6 until March 15, 2015. In this capacity, he replaced Alan Major when Major went on a medical leave of absence to deal with chronic health issues.
The 2015–16 Wyoming Cowboys basketball team represented the University of Wyoming during the 2015–16 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. Their head coach was Larry Shyatt in his sixth and final year, including his first tenure in 1998. Shyatt resigned at the end of the year to take a job in the NBA. They played their home games at the Arena-Auditorium in Laramie, Wyoming. The Cowboys were a member of the Mountain West Conference. They finished the season 14–18, 7–11 in Mountain West play to finish in a tie for eighth place. They lost in the first round of the Mountain West tournament to Utah State.

Craig Francis Smith is an American college basketball coach who is currently the men's basketball head coach at Utah. A member of Tim Miles' coaching tree, Smith served as an assistant for Miles at four schools – Mayville State, North Dakota State, Colorado State, and Nebraska. Smith was also the head coach at Mayville State from 2004 to 2007, at South Dakota from 2014 to 2018, and at Utah State from 2018 to 2021.

In a season limited due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Retrievers finished the season 14–6, 10–4 in America East play to finish in a tie for first place. They lost to UMass Lowell in the semifinals of the America East tournament.

They defeated San Diego State in the championship game to win the Mountain West championship. They received an invitation to the LA Bowl where they defeated Oregon State.

The Aztecs, led by fifth-year head coach Brian Dutcher, played their home games at Viejas Arena as members in the Mountain West Conference. They finished the season 23–9, 13–4 in Mountain West Play to finish in third place. As the No. 3 seed in the Mountain West tournament, they defeated Fresno State and Colorado State to advance to the championship game, where they lost to Boise State. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 8 seed in the Midwest Region, where they lost in the first round to Creighton.
The 2021–22 UMBC Retrievers men's basketball team represented the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Retrievers, led by first-year head coach Jim Ferry, played their home games at the Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena in Catonsville, Maryland as members of the America East Conference. They finished the season 18-14, 11-7 in America East Play to finish in 2nd place. They defeated UMass Lowell and Hartford to advance to the championship game of the America East tournament where they lost to Vermont. They received an invitation to The Basketball Classic where they withdrew due to UMBC having health concerns.
