The 1989 Oakland Athletics season saw the A's finish in first place in the American League West, with a record of 99 wins and 63 losses, seven games in front of the Kansas City Royals. Oakland dominated the American League, earning their second consecutive AL West title, as well as marking the second straight year in which they finished with the best record in all of baseball. A's pitcher Dave Stewart recorded his third straight season of earning 20 or more wins while Rickey Henderson put on a dazzling offensive performance in the postseason as he approached the prospects of landing a three million dollar contract for the following season. The team defeated the Toronto Blue Jays in five games in the ALCS, then swept their cross-Bay rivals, the San Francisco Giants, in an earthquake-marred World Series. The Athletics looked to be a future dynasty by the close of the 1989 season.
The Oakland Athletics' 1988 season involved the A's winning their first American League West title since 1981, with a record of 104 wins and 58 losses. In 1988, the elephant was restored as the symbol of the Athletics and currently adorns the left sleeve of home and road uniforms. The elephant was retired as team mascot in 1963 by then-owner Charles O. Finley in favor of a Missouri mule. The A's defeated the Boston Red Sox in the ALCS, but lost the World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games, including a dramatic, classic walk-off home run by the Dodgers' Kirk Gibson in game one.
The 1931 Philadelphia Athletics season involved the A's finishing first in the American League with a record of 107 wins and 45 losses. It was the team's third consecutive pennant-winning season and its third consecutive season with over 100 wins. However the A's lost the 1931 World Series to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games. The series loss prevented the Athletics from becoming the first major league baseball team to win three consecutive World Series; the New York Yankees would accomplish the feat seven years later. The Athletics, ironically, would go on to earn their own threepeat in 1974, some forty-three years after the failed 1931 attempt.
The 1930 Philadelphia Athletics season involved the A's finishing first in the American League with a record of 102 wins and 52 losses. It was the team's second of three consecutive pennants.
The 1963 Los Angeles Dodgers were led by pitcher Sandy Koufax, who won both the Cy Young Award and the Most Valuable Player Award. The team went 99–63 to win the National League title by six games over the runner-up St. Louis Cardinals and beat the New York Yankees in four games to win the World Series, marking the first time that the Yankees were ever swept in the postseason.
The 2013 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim season was the franchise's 53rd season and 48th in Anaheim.
The 2016 Oakland Athletics season was the 49th for the franchise in Oakland, as well as the 116th in club history. They finished the season in last place in the American League West.
The 2017 Oakland Athletics season was the 50th for the Oakland Athletics franchise in Oakland, as well as the 117th in club history. The A's began the season on April 3 at home against Los Angeles Angels and finished the season at the Texas Rangers on October 1. They finished the season in last place in the American League West and did not make the playoffs for the third consecutive season, but did finish the season on a strong note with a winning record in September.
The 2017 San Diego Padres season was the 49th season of the San Diego Padres franchise in Major League Baseball and the Padres' 14th season at Petco Park. The Padres began the season on April 3 at the Los Angeles Dodgers. They ended the season on October 1 at the San Francisco Giants. They finished the season 71–91 to finish in fourth place in the National League West, 33 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers. They missed the playoffs for the 11th straight year.
The 2018 Oakland Athletics season was the 118th season for the Oakland Athletics franchise, all as members of the American League, and their golden jubilee as a franchise in Oakland. The A's were managed by Bob Melvin in his eighth year as manager of the A's. They played their home games at Oakland Coliseum as members of the American League West.
The 2018 Seattle Mariners season was the 42nd season in franchise history. The Mariners played their 19th full season at Safeco Field, their home ballpark. After the Buffalo Bills of the NFL clinched a playoffs spot for the first time since 1999, The Mariners entered this season with the longest active playoff drought in the four major North American professional sports, failing to make their first postseason appearance since 2001. At several points in the season, the Mariners were 10 games ahead of the Oakland Athletics in the AL Wild Card race, but ended up finishing eight games behind them. The Mariners were eliminated from playoff contention on September 22 with the Athletics win against the Minnesota Twins. The Mariners began the season on March 29, 2018 against the Cleveland Indians and finished the season on September 30 against the Texas Rangers.
The 2019 Tampa Bay Rays season was the Rays' 22nd season of Major League Baseball, and the 12th as the "Rays". The Rays clinched a spot in the playoffs for the first time since 2013 and defeated the Oakland Athletics in the ALWC Game 5–1. They then lost in the ALDS to the Houston Astros 3–2.
The 2019 Oakland Athletics season was the 119th season for the Oakland Athletics franchise, all as members of the American League, and their 52nd season in Oakland. The A's clinched a spot in the ALWC Game on September 27; however, they lost to the Tampa Bay Rays in that game 5–1. The 2019 season was the final season the team shared the Coliseum with the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders relocated to Las Vegas prior to the following season leaving the Coliseum as a baseball-only facility for the first time since 1994.
The 2019 Colorado Rockies season was the franchise's 27th in Major League Baseball. It was their 25th season at Coors Field. Bud Black returned as Manager for his third season in 2019. Before the season began Black was officially offered a 3-year contract extension deal that would see him remain Manager till the 2022 season. After making the playoffs the previous two seasons, the Rockies were eliminated from postseason contention on September 12 after 51 losses in 73 games.
The 2020 Colorado Rockies season was the franchise's 28th in Major League Baseball. It was their 26th season at Coors Field. Bud Black returned as the Manager for his fourth season with the Rockies in 2020.
