The Penguins were members of the Horizon League and played their home games at Eastwood Field in Niles, Ohio. They were led by fifth-year head coach Dan Bertolini.

Previous season

The Penguins finished the 2020 NCAA Division I baseball season 7–7 overall (0–0 conference) and first place in conference standings, but the season was cut short in stages by March 17, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Cleveland State Vikings, or Vikes, are the athletic teams of Cleveland State University. Before as Fenn College they were known as the Fenn College Foxes or Fenn Foxes. The university is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's (NCAA) Division I, and the Penguins compete in football as members of the Missouri Valley Football Conference. Most other sports compete as members of the Horizon League.

The 2013 Horizon League baseball tournament was held from May 22 through 25. All five of the league's teams met in the double-elimination tournament held at Youngstown State University's Eastwood Field. Valparaiso won their second tournament championship and earned the conference's automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Division I baseball tournament.

Alexander Kyle Sogard is an American baseball coach and former pitcher, who is the current head baseball coach of the Wright State Raiders. He played college baseball at Oregon State from 2006 to 2007 before transferring to NC State where he played for coach Elliott Avent from 2008 to 2010 before playing professionally for 6 seasons from 2010 to 2015.

The 2016–17 Northern Kentucky Norse men's basketball team represented Northern Kentucky University (NKU) during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Norse, led by second-year head coach John Brannen, played their home games at BB&T Arena in Highland Heights, Kentucky as members of the Horizon League. They finished the season 24–11, 13–6 in Horizon League play to finish in a tie for third place. As the No. 4 seed in the Horizon League tournament, they defeated Wright State, Youngstown State, and Milwaukee to win the Horizon League tournament. They received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament in the school's first year of eligibility after its transition to a Division I school. They lost in the first round to Kentucky.

The College World Series, consisting of the eight remaining teams in the NCAA tournament and held annually in Omaha, Nebraska, at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha, ended on June 28, 2018.

The 2017–18 Northern Kentucky Norse men's basketball team represented Northern Kentucky University (NKU) during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Norse, led by third-year head coach John Brannen, played their home games at BB&T Arena in Highland Heights, Kentucky as members of the Horizon League. They finished the season 22–10, 15–3 in Horizon League play to win the Horizon League regular season championship. They were upset in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League tournament by No. 8 seed Cleveland State. As a regular season league champion who failed to win their league tournament, they received an automatic bid to the National Invitation Tournament where they lost in the first round to Louisville.

The 2019 Horizon League baseball tournament was held from May 22 through 25. All six of the league's teams met in the double-elimination tournament held at the home field of the regular season champion. The winner of the tournament, UIC, earned the conference's automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Division I baseball tournament.

The 2011 Horizon League baseball tournament took place from May 22 through 26, near the close of the 2011 NCAA Division I baseball season. The top six of the league's seven teams met in the double-elimination tournament held at Wright State's Nischwitz Stadium in Dayton, Ohio. Top seeded Wright State won their fourth Horizon League Championship and earned the conference's automatic bid to the 2011 NCAA Division I baseball tournament.

The Penguins were members of the Horizon League and played their home games at Eastwood Field in Niles, Ohio. They were led by sixth-year head coach Dan Bertolini.

The 2022 Horizon League baseball tournament was held from May 25 through 28. The top six of the league's seven teams met in the double-elimination tournament held at Nischwitz Stadium in Fairborn, Ohio, home field of Wright State. The winner of the tournament earned the conference's automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA Division I baseball tournament.

The 2023 NCAA Division I baseball season, play of college baseball in the United States organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division I level, began on February 17, 2023. The regular season was followed by many conference tournaments and championship series, and the season concluded with the 2023 NCAA Division I baseball tournament and 2023 Men's College World Series. The Men's College World Series, consisting of the eight remaining teams in the NCAA tournament and held annually in Omaha, Nebraska, at Charles Schwab Field Omaha, ended on June 26, 2023, with LSU winning the title.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2021–22 Horizon League men's basketball season</span> Sports season

The 2021–22 Horizon League men's basketball season began with practices in September 2021 and ended with the 2022 Horizon League men's basketball tournament in March 2022. This was the 42nd season for Horizon League men's basketball.

The 2022 Horizon League women's soccer tournament was the postseason women's soccer tournament for the Horizon League. It was held from October 30 through November 5, 2022. The quarterfinals of the tournament were held at campus sites, while semifinals and final took place at Engelmann Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The six team single-elimination tournament consisted of three rounds based on seeding from regular season conference play. The Milwaukee Panthers were the defending champions, and they successfully defended their title by beating the Youngstown State Penguins 1–0 in the final. This was the fifteenth overall title for Milwaukee and first for head coach Kevin Boyd. This was also Milwaukee's fifth consecutive title. As tournament champions, Milwaukee earned the Horizon League's automatic berth into the 2022 NCAA Division I women's soccer tournament.
