Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) is a publiccommunity college in Salt Lake County, Utah. It is the state's largest two-year college with the most diverse student body. It serves amlost 50,000 students on 8 campuses as well as through online classes. The college has a student to faculty ratio of 19:1.[3] Since SLCC is a community college, it focuses on providing associate degrees that students can transfer to any other four-year university in the state to satisfy their first two years of requirements for a bachelor's degree. SLCC has open enrollment and serves the local community, with approximately 95% of the student body considered Utah residents.
Located at 4600 South Redwood Road in Taylorsville, the Taylorsville Redwood Campus is the primary campus and harbors the school's student center and main offices. Serving over 15,000 students a year, the campus is spread across two city blocks in twelve academic buildings, housing a library (approx 90,000 volumes), athletic facilities, an amphitheater, and a student union.

Located at 1575 South State Street in Salt Lake City, the South City Campus occupies the former home of South High School. The campus houses classrooms, labs, and the Grand Theatre, home of the Grand Theatre Foundation and Community Institute. The Grand Theatre facility includes the Historic Fashion Collection, some 1,900 costumes ranging from 1890s to the present.[5]
South City Campus added the Center for Arts and Media (CAM) Building in 2013, thanks to grants from the State of Utah and several community partners including the George S. & Delores Doré Eccles Foundation and Adobe. This addition provides classroom and work space for 17 programs in the School of Arts and Communication, serving approximately 9,000 students.
Jordan Campus (2001)

Located at 3491 West 9000 South in West Jordan, the Jordan Campus is SLCC's third full-service campus. It houses a library, food court, financial aid, a dental clinic for the dental hygienist program, academic advising offices, and Cate Field (where the SLCC baseball team plays its home games).
The nursing program opened at the campus by 2007 in a five-story Health Science building. A UTA TRAX station is planned near the college. Other non-college buildings on the campus include the Jordan School District applied technology center, Itineris Charter School built by Bill Gates, and an LDSInstitute of Religion.
Miller Campus (2001)
Located at 9750 South 300 West in Sandy and opened in 2001, the Miller Campus was donated to SLCC by Larry H. Miller, the late owner of the Utah Jazz and the Salt Lake Bees. It is home to SLCC's Culinary Institute, and Continuing Education programs such as legal secretary, digital media technology, real estate appraisal and public safety/criminal justice. The Miller Business Resource Center offers four corporate training programs and The Miller Business Innovation Center helps startup companies with operational and educational services. Training facilities for the Utah Department of Public Safety (DPS) on the campus include: Highway Patrol training, DPS development education center, the Utah POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) academy, and the Department of Corrections training academy.
Meadowbrook Campus
The Meadowbrook Campus is home to general education courses, and several vocational and School of Applied Technology programs including: Diesel Systems Technology; Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC); Professional Truck Driving; Professional Pilot; and Non-Destructive Testing.
Herriman Campus (2023)
Located at 14551 South Sentinel Ridge Blvd in Herriman and opened in 2023, the Herriman Campus is a collaboration between Salt Lake Community College and the University of Utah. The two organizations jointly administer the campus, with the goal being to offer associate degrees at SLCC and allow students to continue their education at the University of Utah. [6]
Organization and administration
In September 2014, The Utah Board of Regents named Deneece Huftalin as the SLCC President.[7] She served previously as vice-president of Student Services. She replaced Cynthia Bioteau.[8]
The Thayne Center is a non-profit organization established in 1994 (originally named the Emma Lou Thayne Community Service Center) to coordinate a variety of service-related programs for SLCC. The college provides the bulk of the center's budget.
Academics
SLCC offers over 200 degree and certificate programs in academic, technical, and vocational fields.[9] It is accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges, and many credits are transferable to the state's four-year colleges. More SLCC graduates attend the University of Utah than graduates of any other institution of higher learning.
Student life
Sports
The SLCC Bruins have competed in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) since 1985. Currently, the school fields men's teams in baseball, basketball and soccer, and women's teams in basketball, softball, volleyball and soccer. The Bruins have produced 54 NJCAA All-American athletes since 1985, and has produced 513 Academic All-Region honorees and 192 Academic All-Americans.[10] The men's basketball program advanced to the NJCAA championship game in 2008. The following season, the Bruins returned to the title game, this time defeating Midland College to claim the first national championship in school history.[11] The Bruins returned to the title game in 2016, winning their second championship by defeating Hutchinson Community College, 74–64.
The men's soccer team captured the NJCAA national championship in 2021 - just five years after the program transitioned from club status to formal NJCAA competition - upsetting #1 Iowa Western in the title match.[12] Two players from that squad, Ryen Jiba and Levonte Johnson, were later selected in the first round of the 2023 MLS SuperDraft.
Salt Lake Community College's mascot is a bruin, "Brutus". He appears at local parades and performs at the women's volleyball and men's basketball games. Brutus has his own Facebook page.[13]

Taylorsville is a city in Salt Lake County, Utah. It is part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. The population was 60,448 at the time of the 2020 census. Taylorsville was incorporated from the Taylorsville–Bennion CDP and portions of the Kearns metro township on July 1, 1996. The city is located adjacent to Interstate 215 and Bangerter Highway. It is located in the middle of the Salt Lake Valley.
Dallas College Richland Campus is a public community college in Dallas, Texas. The school was founded in 1972 and is part of Dallas College. It is the largest campus in the college, featuring about 20,000 students. Located on the old Jackson farm, the campus comprises 155 acres including Thunderduck Lake.
Tompkins Cortland Community College (TC3) is a public community college in Dryden, New York. It is supported by Cortland and Tompkins Counties and has extension sites that are located in Ithaca and Cortland. It is part of the State University of New York system.
Lake Land College is a public community college in Mattoon, Illinois. It was founded in 1966. As of the Fall 2022 semester Lake Land serves 3,742 students, mainly from the east-central Illinois region. The 308 acres (1.25 km2) campus has seven major buildings plus eight supportive buildings, two campus ponds, and a 160 acres (0.65 km2) agriculture land laboratory.
Taylorsville High School is a public high school established in 1981, located in Taylorsville, Utah, United States. The principal is Dr. Garett Muse. The mascot is the Wilbur the Warrior. The enrollment is around 2,900 students and represents many different ethnic groups. Taylorsville High is one of eight high schools in Granite School District.
The Granite School District is a public school district spread across central Salt Lake County, Utah, serving West Valley City, Millcreek, Taylorsville, South Salt Lake, and Holladay; Kearns and Magna Townships; and parts of West Jordan, Murray and Cottonwood Heights. About 67,000 students are enrolled in its programs ranging from kindergarten to twelfth grade. It operates 9 high schools, 15 junior high schools, 62 elementary schools, as well as several specialty schools. This makes Granite the third largest school district in the state of Utah behind Alpine School District in Utah County and Davis County School District. Other school districts in the area include the Salt Lake City School District and the Murray School District.
Meridian Community College is a public community college in Meridian, Mississippi. Founded in 1937, it was originally named Meridian Junior College but changed its name in 1987.
Indian Hills Community College (IHCC) is a public community college in Iowa with campuses in Ottumwa and Centerville. IHCC serves both traditional residential students and commuter students, primarily from a ten-county area in southeast Iowa as well as portions of northern Missouri. IHCC is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.
Murray High School is the only high school in the Murray City School District in Murray, Utah. Murray High School is located in the Salt Lake City metropolitan area with 1,465 students enrolled in the 2019–2020 academic year. The school enrolls students in grades 10–12. The school's mascot is the Spartan, and the school colors are orange and black. Murray High is a 5-A school in Utah's 6 Division high school sports leagues. The Disney Channel reality show High School Musical: Get in the Picture was shot on the Murray High campus in 2008, and American Idol season 7 runner-up David Archuleta attended the school. The school also offers the highest number of Salt Lake Community College Concurrent Enrollment classes in the state of Utah.
The Utah Valley Wolverines represent Utah Valley University in NCAA DI collegiate athletics and sponsor 16 sporting programs. The Wolverines participate in the Western Athletic Conference. The school mascot is the Wolverine, and the colors are green and white. The UVU student section is called The Den. A name change from The Mawl, the student section's previous name, was enacted in 2017.
Utah State University Eastern is a public regional college within the Utah State University system. The USU Eastern campus is located in Price, Utah, United States. Founded as Carbon College in 1937, the college joined the University of Utah system in 1959 for 10 years and was renamed College of Eastern Utah (CEU). In 1969, the Utah System of Higher Education was created ending the relationship between the University of Utah and CEU. CEU entered the USU system on July 1, 2010 as Utah State University Eastern. With more than 60 degree programs, the college focuses on technical, vocational, and associate degree programs. USU Eastern competes as the Eagles and is the only statewide USU campus, apart from the Logan campus, that has an athletics program.
Herriman High School (HHS) is a public high school in Herriman, Utah, United States. It is a part of the Jordan School District and serves students from the cities of Herriman, South Jordan, and Riverton. The school is a two-level facility, situated on a 50-acre campus, with views of the Salt Lake Valley and mountain ranges to the east and west. The school derived its mascot from the wild mustang horses that used to roam the southwestern corner of the Salt Lake Valley until they were relocated shortly after the school opened.
Gary Kristopher Wilkinson is an American retired professional basketball player. He played college basketball at Utah State and has played previously for professional teams in Greece, South Korea, New Zealand, Estonia and Puerto Rico.

Anime Salt Lake was an anime convention held at the Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) Redwood Campus in Taylorsville, Utah, United States.
The Midvalley Express (MVX), originally known as the Taylorsville-Murray BRT and later as Midvalley Connector) is an under construction bus rapid transit (BRT) line anticipated to run between Murray and West Valley City in Utah, United States, that will be operated by the Utah Transit Authority (UTA). It will connect the main campus of Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) in Taylorsville with both the TRAX light rail system and the FrontRunner commuter rail. It is the fourth of several BRT lines that UTA is planning along the Wasatch Front. Bus Rapid Transit is described by UTA as "light rail on rubber tires".
The Lifetime Activities Center is a 5,000-seat multi-purpose arena in Taylorsville, Utah, on campus of Salt Lake Community College. The arena hosts the Bruins' basketball team, and formerly the G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, the Salt Lake City Stars. Every February through March, it hosts Utah high school girls' basketball championships. In addition to the 5,000-seat arena, it also hosts a fitness center and weight room, as well as classrooms for SLCC classes.
Tad Dufelmeier Jr. is an Australian professional basketball player for the Cairns Taipans of the National Basketball League (NBL). He played college basketball in the United States for Salt Lake Community College and Concordia University Irvine.
Ryen Jiba is a South Sudanese professional footballer who plays as an full-back for Union Omaha.
Todd Douglas Phillips is an American college basketball coach who is currently the head coach of the Utah Valley Wolverines team.
