The 2022 season 7 Hawthorn Football Club season was the club's first season in the AFL Women's. The team played their home games at the Box Hill City Oval and Frankston Park. They were led by coach Bec Goddard [1] and captain Tilly Lucas-Rodd. [2]

2022 AFL Women's season 7 was the seventh season of the AFL Women's competition since its inception in 2017. It is the first season contested by Hawthorn. KFC and Nature Valley are the club's two major partners. [3] [4]

Season summary

12 August 2021 – Bec Goddard is appointed as the club's inaugural coach. [1]

21 January 2022 – Mitch Cashion is appointed as the club's list manager. [5]

5 May 2022 – Hawthorn announces they have signed Olivia Knowles as High performance manager, and Keegan Brooksby as strategy and opposition coach. [6]

5 May 2022 – Hawthorn announces that KFC has signed on as a partner for four seasons. [3]

10 June 2022 – Nature Valley signs with Hawthorn as a partner. [4]

10 June 2022 – Cherie O'Neill, Lou Wotton, David McKay, and Brady Grey are announced as assistant coaches. [7]

8 August 2022 – Tilly Lucas-Rodd is announced as the clubs inaugural captain, Jess Duffin is appointed the vice–captain, while Louise Stephenson and Tamara Luke round out the leadership group. [2]

14 August 2022 – Due to ticket demand, Hawthorn's round 1 game against Essendon is moved to Marvel Stadium. [8]

18 October 2022 – Vice-captain Jess Duffin announces her retirement at the end of the season. [9]

Emily Bates is an Australian rules footballer playing for the Hawthorn Football Club in the AFL Women's (AFLW). She previously played for the Brisbane Lions from 2017 to season 7. Bates was selected by the Western Bulldogs in the inaugural national women's draft in 2013, and represented them in the first three years of the exhibition games staged prior to the creation of the league. She represented Brisbane in 2016, the last year that the games were held, and was drafted by the club with the second selection in the 2016 AFL Women's draft prior to the inaugural AFL Women's season.

A right-handed batter with a reputation as a big game performer, Duffin was named Player of the Final in both the 2012 ICC Women's World Twenty20 and 2013 Women's Cricket World Cup tournaments. She also won the 2013 Belinda Clark Award for being adjudged Australia's best international women's cricketer over the previous year. Her domestic career has included playing for Victoria in the Women's National Cricket League and captaining the Melbourne Renegades in the Women's Big Bash League.

Hawthorn entered the season as the three-time defending AFL premiers, having won back-to-back-to-back AFL premierships.

They previously played for the Carlton Football Club from 2017 to 2019 and the St Kilda Football Club from 2020 to 2022 (S6). They were the inaugural Hawthorn best and fairest winner, and they have served as Hawthorn captain since 2022 season 7.

The 2020 Hawthorn Football Club season was the club's 96th season in the Australian Football League and 119th overall, the 21st season playing home games at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the 20th season playing home games at the University of Tasmania Stadium, the 16th season under head coach Alastair Clarkson, and the 2nd season with Ben Stratton as club captain. With Jarryd Roughead and Grant Birchall departing this season will be the first to not have any player from Hawthorn's 2008 premiership team on the list.
