The 2022 season 7 Hawthorn Football Club season was the club's first season in the AFL Women's. The team played their home games at the Box Hill City Oval and Frankston Park. They were led by coach Bec Goddard [1] and captain Tilly Lucas-Rodd. [2]

2022 AFL Women's season 7 was the seventh season of the AFL Women's competition since its inception in 2017. It is the first season contested by Hawthorn. KFC and Nature Valley are the club's two major partners. [3] [4]

Season summary

12 August 2021 – Bec Goddard is appointed as the club's inaugural coach. [1]

21 January 2022 – Mitch Cashion is appointed as the club's list manager. [5]

5 May 2022 – Hawthorn announces they have signed Olivia Knowles as High performance manager, and Keegan Brooksby as strategy and opposition coach. [6]

5 May 2022 – Hawthorn announces that KFC has signed on as a partner for four seasons. [3]

10 June 2022 – Nature Valley signs with Hawthorn as a partner. [4]

10 June 2022 – Cherie O'Neill, Lou Wotton, David McKay, and Brady Grey are announced as assistant coaches. [7]

8 August 2022 – Tilly Lucas-Rodd is announced as the clubs inaugural captain, Jess Duffin is appointed the vice–captain, while Louise Stephenson and Tamara Luke round out the leadership group. [2]

14 August 2022 – Due to ticket demand, Hawthorn's round 1 game against Essendon is moved to Marvel Stadium. [8]

18 October 2022 – Vice-captain Jess Duffin announces her retirement at the end of the season. [9]

Jessica Evelyn Duffin is an Australian sportswoman. In cricket, she has made 117 international appearances and won four world championships as a member of the Australian women's team. A right-handed batter with a reputation as a big game performer, Duffin was named Player of the Final in both the 2012 ICC Women's World Twenty20 and 2013 Women's Cricket World Cup tournaments. They were the inaugural Hawthorn best and fairest winner, and they have served as Hawthorn captain since 2022 season 7.

The 2022 Hawthorn Football Club season was the club's 98th season in the Australian Football League and 121st overall, the 23rd season playing home games at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the 22nd season playing home games at the University of Tasmania Stadium, the 1st season under head coach Sam Mitchell, and the 2nd and final season with Ben McEvoy as captain. This was the first season without Alastair Clarkson as coach since 2004. Hawthorn finished in thirteenth place with a 8–14 improving on their record from the season before. Luke Breust led the club goalkicking for the fourth time finishing the season with 40 goals.

The 2022 VFL Women's season was the sixth season of the VFL Women's (VFLW). The season commenced on 12 February and concluded with the grand final on 3 July. Essendon went through the season undefeated and won its first VFLW premiership, defeating the Southern Saints by 35 points in the grand final; this resulted in the first completed VFLW season since 2019 after COVID-19 disruptions affected the previous two seasons.
