2022 AFF Championship knockout stage

The knockout stage of the 2022 AFF Championship were the second and final stage of the 2022 AFF Championship, following the group stage. It was took place from 6 to 16 January 2023. The top two teams from each group (four in total) advanced to the knockout stage to compete in a two-legged single-elimination tournament beginning with the semi-finals followed by the final. [1] Each tie are played on a home-and-away two-legged basis. The away goals rule, extra time and penalty shoot-out are used to decide the winner if necessary.

Qualified teams

The top two highest-placing teams from each of the two groups advanced to the knockout stage. In Group A, Thailand secured the group top spot as the group winner with 10 points after defeating Cambodia by 3–1 in their last match while Indonesia became the group runners-up with similar points but has less goals difference with Thailand. Indonesia defeated Philippines by 2–1 in their last match. [2]

Meanwhile, in Group B, Vietnam secured the group top spot with 10 points after defeating Myanmar by 3–0 in their last match while Malaysia became the group runner-up with 9 points after winning 4–1 against Singapore. [3]

Format

All matchup ties will be played over two legs. The team that scores more goals on aggregate over the two legs wins the tie. If the aggregate score is level at the end of normal time of the second leg, the team that scores more away goals across both legs advances. If the away goals are still level, extra time is played (without applying the away goals rule), and if the same number of goals are scored by both teams during extra time, the tie is decided by a penalty shoot-out.

The 2020 AFF Championship was the 13th edition of the AFF Championship, the football championship of nations affiliated to the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF), the 7th and the last edition under the name AFF Suzuki Cup.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2022 AFF U-23 Championship</span> International football competition

The 2022 AFF U-23 Championship was the 3rd edition of the AFF U-23 Championship, organised by ASEAN Football Federation (AFF). The tournament was held from 14 to 26 February in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Indonesia were the defending champions, having won the 2019 edition. The tournament was held amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Indonesia and Myanmar withdrew from the tournament after several of their players tested positive for COVID-19.

The 2022 AFF U-19 Youth Championship was the 18th edition of the AFF U-19 Youth Championship, organised by ASEAN Football Federation. It was hosted by Indonesia during July 2022. The planned 2020 and 2021 AFF U-19 Youth Championship were cancelled due to COVID-19 pandemic. Players born after 1 January 2003 could participate in this tournament.

The 2022 AFF U-18 Women's Championship was the 2nd edition of the AFF U-19 Women's Championship, an international women's youth football tournament organised by ASEAN Football Federation (AFF). It was hosted by Indonesia.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2022 AFF U-16 Youth Championship</span> International football competition

The 2022 AFF U-16 Championship was the fifteenth edition of the AFF U-16 Youth Championship, the annual international youth association football championship organised by the ASEAN Football Federation for men's under-16 national teams of Southeast Asia. It was hosted by Indonesia from 31 July to 12 August 2022. Twelve member associations of the ASEAN Football Federation competed in the tournament featuring three groups of four teams. The planned 2020 and 2021 AFF U-16 Youth Championship were cancelled due to COVID-19 pandemic in Southeast Asia. Players born after 1 January 2006 could participate in this tournament.

The 2022 AFF Championship was the 14th edition of the AFF Championship, the football championship of nations affiliated to the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) and was the 1st edition under the name AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup.

The Group A of the 2022 AFF Championship were one of the two groups of competing nations in the 2022 AFF Championship. It consists of Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Brunei. The matches took place from 20 December 2022 to 2 January 2023.

The 2022 AFF Championship Final was the final of the 2022 AFF Championship, the 14th edition of the top-level Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) football tournament organised by the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF).

The 2023 AFF U-23 Championship was the 4th edition of the AFF U-23 Championship, organised by the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF). The tournament took place from 17 to 26 August in Rayong, Thailand. Vietnam are the defending champions, having won the 2022 edition and successfully defended their title through a 6–5 victory on penalties following a 0–0 draw after extra time over Indonesia in the final, thus becoming the first team to win the tournament for a second time.
