The 2022 Big East Conference men's soccer season was the tenth season for the newly realigned Big East Conference. Including the history of the original Big East Conference, this was the 27th season of men's soccer under the "Big East Conference" name.

Previous season

Coaching changes

There were two head coaching change ahead of the 2022 season. Longtime UConn head coach, Ray Reid retired after coaching the program for 24 years. [1] [2] Former Northeastern head coach, Chris Gbandi, was hired to replace the outgoing Reid. [3] After 12 seasons, Xavier head coach, Andy Fleming agreed to mutually terminate his contract with the university. [4] [5] Fleming was replaced by John Higgins, who had previously coached at the University of Indianapolis. [6]

They finished the season 25–10, 10–8 in Big East play to finish in a four-way tie for third place. In the Big East tournament, they defeated Providence and Xavier before losing to Villanova in the championship game. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament as a No. 6 seed in the Midwest region. There they lost in the first round to No. 11-seeded Rhode Island.

The 2017–18 Xavier Musketeers men's basketball team represented Xavier University during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season as a member of the Big East Conference. Led by ninth-year head coach Chris Mack, they played their home games at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. They finished the season 29–6, 15–3 in Big East play to win the Big East championship. In the Big East tournament, they defeated St. John's before losing to Providence in the semifinals. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament as a No. 1 seed in the West region. In the First Round, they defeated Texas Southern before being upset by Florida State in the Second Round.

They finished the season 21–12, 10–8 in Big East play to finish in a three-way tie for third place. They lost in the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament to Providence. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 8 seed in the South Region. There the Bluejays lost in the first round to Kansas State.

For the first time since the reconfigured Big East formed, Villanova failed to win the regular-season title, with Xavier claiming the crown.

Including the history of the original Big East Conference, this was the 24th season of men's soccer under the "Big East Conference" name. The regular season began on August 30 and concluded on November 2.

Andy Fleming is an American former college soccer player and former head coach for Xavier University in the Big East Conference. Fleming has previously served as an assistant coach for Northwestern and Boston University's men's soccer programs.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2020 American Athletic Conference men's soccer season</span> Sports season

The 2020 American Athletic Conference men's soccer season was the 8th season of men's varsity soccer in the conference. The season began in February 2021 and concluded in April 2021.

The 2021–22 UConn Huskies men's basketball team represented the University of Connecticut in the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Huskies are led by fourth-year head coach Dan Hurley in the team's second season since their return to the Big East Conference. The Huskies played their home games at the Harry A. Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Connecticut and the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut. They finished the season 23–10, 13–6 in Big East play to finish in third place. They defeated Seton Hall in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals of the Big East tournament where they lost to Villanova. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 5 seed in the West Region, where they were upset in the First Round by New Mexico State.

The 2022 NCAA Division I men's soccer season was the 64th season of NCAA championship men's college soccer.

The 2023 Big East Conference men's soccer tournament was the post-season women's soccer tournament for the Big East Conference held from November 4 to 12, 2023. The eight-match tournament took place at Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Maryland for the semifinals and finals, while the first round was hosted by the higher seeded team. The eight-team single-elimination tournament consisted of three rounds based on seeding from regular season conference play. The defending champions were the Creighton Bluejays. They were unable to defend their title, losing as the sixth seed in the first round to Providence. Xavier finished as tournament champions after defeating Georgetown in a penalty shoot-out in the Final. This was the first Big East title in program history for Xavier, and the first for head coach John Higgins. As tournament champions, Xavier earned the Big East's automatic place in the 2023 NCAA Division I men's soccer tournament.
