The 2022 Michigan Wolverines softball team was an American college softball team that represented the University of Michigan during the 2022 NCAA Division I softball season. The Wolverines, were led by head coach Carol Hutchins in her thirty-eighth season, and played their home games at Alumni Field in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Previous season

The Wolverines finished the 2021 season 38–8 overall, and 36–6 in the Big Ten, finishing in first place in their conference. Following the conclusion of the regular season, the Wolverines received an automatic bid to the 2021 NCAA Division I softball tournament after winning the Big Ten Conference regular season championship and were defeated in the Regional Final by Washington. Carol Sue Hutchins is an American former softball coach. In 38 years as the head coach of Michigan Wolverines softball, (1985–2022), she won more games than more than any other coach in University of Michigan history in any sport, male or female with 1,684 wins. Hutchins had a career record of 1,707 wins, 551 losses, and five ties, for a .759 winning percentage. She led the Wolverines to their first NCAA softball championship in 2005.

The team played its home games in Ann Arbor, Michigan for the 48th consecutive year at the Crisler Center, which has a capacity of 12,707. This season marked the program's 99th season and its 98th consecutive year as a member of the Big Ten Conference. The team was led by 8th year head coach John Beilein, who was voted 2014 Big Ten Coach of the Year by the Big Ten media. The 2013–14 team was Big Ten champion, earning the school's first outright title since 1986. The program entered the season coming off its winningest two-year stretch, having won 59 games in the two previous seasons. The team was also coming off four consecutive NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament appearances.

Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman is an American professional basketball player for Victoria Libertas Pesaro of the Italian Lega Basket Serie A (LBA). He played college basketball for the Michigan Wolverines. Abdur-Rahkman played high school basketball for Allentown Central Catholic High School in his hometown of Allentown, Pennsylvania, where he was a four-time Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Class AAA All-State selection.

Isaiah Maurice Livers is an American professional basketball player for the Detroit Pistons of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Michigan Wolverines. He attended Kalamazoo Central High School where he won the Mr. Basketball of Michigan. He was part of the 2017–18 team that won the 2018 Big Ten Conference men's basketball tournament and reached the championship game of the 2018 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament.
