The 2024 Michigan Wolverines softball team was an American college softball team that represented the University of Michigan during the 2024 NCAA Division I softball season. The Wolverines were led by head coach Bonnie Tholl in her second season, and played their home games at Alumni Field in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Wolverines won the 2024 Big Ten softball tournament, and advanced to the 2024 NCAA Division I softball tournament.

Previous season

The Wolverines finished the 2023 season 26–25 overall, and 10–13 in the Big Ten, finishing in ninth place in their conference. Michigan failed to make the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1994. [2]

Preseason

On July 17, 2023, Jennifer Brundage was promoted to associate head coach at Michigan. [3] [4] On July 21, 2023, Faith Canfield was promoted to assistant coach. [5]

Jennifer Lynn Brundage is an American, former collegiate All-American softball player and current associate head coach for Michigan. She played college softball for the UCLA Bruins from 1992 to 1995 and won the 1992 Women's College World Series. Brundage was named Honda Sports Award for softball as Player of the Year in 1995. As a part of Team USA softball, she won a gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Carol Sue Hutchins is an American former softball coach. In 38 years as the head coach of Michigan Wolverines softball, (1985–2022), she won more games than more than any other coach in University of Michigan history in any sport, male or female with 1,684 wins. Hutchins had a career record of 1,707 wins, 551 losses, and five ties, for a .759 winning percentage. She led the Wolverines to their first NCAA softball championship in 2005.

In 2005, Hutchins' team became the first Division I softball team since 1976 from east of the Mississippi River to win the Women's College World Series.

The 2017–18 Michigan Wolverines men's hockey team was the Wolverines' 96th season. They represented the University of Michigan in the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's ice hockey season. The team was coached by Mel Pearson, in his first year as head coach, and played their home games at Yost Ice Arena. This season was the beginning of a new era, as long time head coach Red Berenson retired after 33 years of service as coach at Michigan. Michigan advanced to the Frozen Four for the first time since 2011, but lost to Notre Dame in the national semifinals after captain Jake Evans scored the game-winning goal with six seconds remaining.
