The 2022 season saw Western Storm compete in the 50 over Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy and the Twenty20 Charlotte Edwards Cup. In the Charlotte Edwards Cup, the side won three of their six matches, finishing third in Group A. [1] In the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, the side finished fourth in the group, winning three of their seven matches. [2]
The side was captained by Sophie Luff. After the departure of Mark O'Leary as coach at the start of the season, the side was coached on an interim basis by Dan Helesfay during the Charlotte Edwards Cup, before Trevor Griffin took up the position on a permanent basis starting with the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy. [3] [4] They played two home matches at the County Ground, Taunton, two at the County Ground, Bristol, one at Sophia Gardens and one at College Ground, Cheltenham. [5] [6]
On 25 November 2021, it was announced that Fran Wilson had signed for the side from Sunrisers. Wilson had previously played for Storm between 2016 and 2019 in the Women's Cricket Super League. [7] On 16 February 2022, it was announced that Mark O'Leary was stepping down from his role as Head Coach. [8] On 27 April 2022, it was announced that Anya Shrubsole had left the side, joining Southern Vipers in a player-coach role. [9] On 11 May 2022, the side announced their 17-player squad for the upcoming season: compared to the previous year, Sophia Smale was added, and Emma Corney, Emily Edgcombe, Steph Hutchins, Joleigh Roberts and Chloe Skelton were removed. [10] On 17 May 2022, it was announced that Dan Helesfay would be interim Head Coach for the Charlotte Edwards Cup, with Trevor Griffin, coach of the side between 2017 and 2019, returning to the position on a permanent basis from the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy onwards. [11] Chloe Skelton returned to the full squad to play a match in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy on 9 July. [12] Emma Corney returned to the full squad to play a match in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy on 11 September. [13] Emily Geach and Katie Jones were added to the full squad on 17 September 2022. The Southern Vipers are a women's cricket team that represent the South of England. The Vipers wear an orange and black kit and play their home matches at the Ageas Bowl and the County Cricket Ground, Hove.
The 2020 Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy was the first edition of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, an English women's cricket domestic competition, which took place between 29 August and 27 September 2020. It featured eight teams in two groups, and had a final. The tournament was named after former England captain Rachael Heyhoe Flint, Baroness Heyhoe-Flint, who died in 2017.

The tournament ran alongside the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.

In the final, they played Southern Vipers in a repeat of the previous year's final. Batting first, Diamonds made 183, but lost by 3 wickets after reducing Vipers to 109/7.

The 2022 season was Northern Diamonds' third season, in which they competed in the 50 over Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy and the Twenty20 Charlotte Edwards Cup. In the Charlotte Edwards Cup, the side finished second in Group B, winning three of their six matches. The side finished top of the group in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, winning six of their seven matches and progressing directly to the final. In the final, they faced Southern Vipers for the third time in three Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy finals. Northern Diamonds won by 2 runs to claim their first ever title. Northern Diamonds batter Lauren Winfield-Hill was named as Player of the Year in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, and was the tournament's leading run-scorer with 470 runs at an average of 78.30.

In the Charlotte Edwards Cup, the side finished top of Group A, winning five of their six matches and progressing to the semi-final. In the semi-final, they lost to Central Sparks by 2 wickets. In the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, the side finished second in the group, winning five of their seven matches and progressing to the play-off. In the play-off, they lost to Southern Vipers by 6 wickets.

In the Charlotte Edwards Cup, the side went unbeaten through the six group stage matches, therefore qualifying directly for the final. In the final, they beat Central Sparks by 5 wickets with 4.1 overs to spare, therefore claiming their first Charlotte Edwards Cup title.
