The 2023 Osaka Prefecture Gubernatorial election is scheduled to be held on 9 April 2023 as part of the 20th unified local elections. [1] Incumbent Governor Hirofumi Yoshimura won re-election to a second term, defeating Taniguchi Mayumi who was supported by the Liberal Democratic Party, Constitutional Democratic Party and several minor candidates.

The election was held on 9 April and was won by the incumbent governor, Yoshimura Hirofumi of Osaka Ishin (Restoration) Party. 7,188,665 voters took part in the election (3,411,185 male voters and 3,777,480 female voters). Voter turnout was 46.98% down from 49.49% in the 2019 gubernatorial election. [8]

Higashi-osaka held a by-election on August 6 for two seats for the Osaka Prefectural Assembly. One seat went to Liberal Democratic Party candidate Kōichi Nishino and the second to Japanese Communist Party candidate Makoto Kuchihara.
The Kanagawa at-large district is a constituency of the House of Councillors in the Diet of Japan represented by six Councillors. It comprises the entire prefecture of Kanagawa and elects three Councillors every three years by single non-transferable vote.
The Osaka Restoration Association, also referred to as One Osaka, is a regional political party in Osaka Prefecture, Japan. Founded in 2010 by then-Governor Tōru Hashimoto, its main platform is pursuing the Osaka Metropolis plan of merging the prefecture and some of its cities into "One Osaka", reducing overlapping bureaucratic organizations of the prefecture and the city of Osaka, towards Dōshūsei.
Ōsaka 19th district is a single-member electoral district for the House of Representatives, the lower house of the national Diet of Japan. It is located in southern Osaka and consists of the cities of Kaizuka, Izumisano, Sennan, Hannan and the towns of Kumatori, Tajiri and Misaki in the former county of Sennan. As of September 2012, 307,237 eligible voters were registered in the district.
Ōsaka 12th district is a single-member electoral district for the House of Representatives, the lower house of the National Diet of Japan. It is located in North-eastern Osaka and covers the cities of Neyagawa, Daitō and Shijōnawate. As of September 2012, 342,226 voters were registered in this district, giving its voters a slight above average vote weight.
The Japan Innovation Party was a political party in Japan. It was launched on 22 September 2014, following the merger of the Japan Restoration Party headed by Tōru Hashimoto, and the Unity Party, led by Kenji Eda. On 27 March 2016 the party merged with the Democratic Party of Japan and Vision of Reform to form the Democratic Party (Minshintō).
The Japan Innovation Party is a conservative and centre-right to right-wing populist political party in Japan. Formed as Initiatives from Osaka in October 2015 from a split in the old Japan Innovation Party, the party became the third-biggest opposition party in the National Diet following the 2016 House of Councillors election.
Hirofumi Yoshimura is a Japanese politician currently serving as the governor of Osaka Prefecture. He assumed office in April 2019. He has been described as a conservative.
Nagano 3rd district is a single-member constituency of the House of Representatives, the lower house of the national Diet of Japan. It is located in central and eastern part of Nagano Prefecture and consists of Ueda City, Komoro City, Chikuma City, Saku City, Tōmi City, Minamisaku District, Kitasaku District, Chiisagata District and Hanishina District. As of December 2020, 400,529 eligible voters were registered in the district.
General elections were held in Japan on 27 October 2024 due to the early dissolution of the House of Representatives, the lower house of the National Diet, by Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. Voting took place in all constituencies, including proportional blocks, to elect all 465 members of the House of Representatives.
Nobuyuki Baba is a Japanese politician who has been the leader of the Japan Innovation Party since 27 August 2022. He is also a member of the House of Representatives in the Diet, currently for the Osaka 17th district.
The 2023 Osaka mayoral election was held on 9 April 2023 as part of the 20th unified local elections to elect the next mayor of Osaka. Incumbent mayor Ichiro Matsui decided not to seek a second term as mayor of Osaka, opting to retire from politics at the end of his term. The election resulted in a landslide victory for Hideyuki Yokoyama, the candidate from the Osaka Restoration Association, who secured 64% of the vote. Taeko Kitano, who was supported by the Liberal Democratic Party and Komeito received 26% of the vote.
Ōsaka 17th district is a single-member electoral district of the House of Representatives, the lower house of the national Diet of Japan. It is located in Sakai City in Osaka Prefecture and comprises the Southern (Minami-ku), Central (Naka-ku) and Western (Nishi-ku) wards of the city. As of 2023, 326,570 eligible voters were registered in the district.
The 2023 Japanese unified local elections were held across the country on 9 and 23 April 2023. In total 15,047 candidates were elected in 1,008 races with a high of 1,685 in Hokkaido and a low of 1 in Okinawa.

On April 28, 2024, by-elections in Japan were held in order to fill vacancies in the National Diet of Japan. In the October 27 slot, there will be at least one national by-election, for the Iwate senate seat in the 2022 class after incumbent Megumi Hirose (LDP→independent) has resigned.
The 2024 Tokyo gubernatorial election took place on 7 July 2024 to elect the Governor of Tokyo. Incumbent Yuriko Koike was re-elected for a third term, albeit at a reduced share of the votes compared to her 2016 election and 2020 re-election. Shinji Ishimaru, the former Mayor of Akitakata, exceeded expectations to place second behind Koike. Meanwhile, lawmaker Renhō, who was endorsed by the main left-wing opposition parties and was widely considered Koike's main opponent leading up to election day, significantly underperformed her polling and placed third.
Makoto Yamashita is a Japanese politician and the current governor of Nara Prefecture in Japan.
The 2024 Hyōgo gubernatorial election will take place on 17 November 2024 to elect the governor of Hyōgo, Japan.
