The 2023 Osaka Prefecture Gubernatorial election is scheduled to be held on 9 April 2023 as part of the 20th unified local elections. [1] Incumbent Governor Hirofumi Yoshimura won re-election to a second term, defeating Taniguchi Mayumi who was supported by the Liberal Democratic Party, Constitutional Democratic Party and several minor candidates.

Election Results

The election was held on 9 April and was won by the incumbent governor, Yoshimura Hirofumi of Osaka Ishin (Restoration) Party. 7,188,665 voters took part in the election (3,411,185 male voters and 3,777,480 female voters). Voter turnout was 46.98% down from 49.49% in the 2019 gubernatorial election. [8]

As of September 2012, 307,237 eligible voters were registered in the district.

The Japan Innovation Party was a political party in Japan. It was launched on 22 September 2014, following the merger of the Japan Restoration Party headed by Tōru Hashimoto, and the Unity Party, led by Kenji Eda. On 27 March 2016 the party merged with the Democratic Party of Japan and Vision of Reform to form the Democratic Party (Minshintō).

The Japan Innovation Party is a conservative and centre-right to right-wing populist political party in Japan. Formed as Initiatives from Osaka in October 2015 from a split in the old Japan Innovation Party, the party became the third-biggest opposition party in the National Diet following the 2016 House of Councillors election.

The 2023 Osaka mayoral election was held on 9 April 2023 as part of the 20th unified local elections to elect the next mayor of Osaka. Incumbent mayor Ichiro Matsui decided not to seek a second term as mayor of Osaka, opting to retire from politics at the end of his term. The election resulted in a landslide victory for Hideyuki Yokoyama, the candidate from the Osaka Restoration Association, who secured 64% of the vote. Taeko Kitano, who was supported by the Liberal Democratic Party and Komeito received 26% of the vote.
