The 5th Crunchyroll Anime Awards were held on February 19, 2021, honoring excellence in anime from 2020. Crunchyroll announced the list of categories as well as the judges on December 16, 2020. They noted that the categories used in the previous edition were to be used in this edition as well. They also noted that the number of judges increased. [1] Nominees were announced on January 15, the first day of voting. [1] [2] It ran until January 22. There were 15 million votes cast, with a majority coming from the United States, Mexico, and Brazil. [3] The awards ceremony was streamed live on February 19 as a digital event. [3] It was virtually hosted by Tim Lyu with Crunchyroll-Hime, the official mascot of Crunchyroll. [4] Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Crunchyroll noted that the show "will look different." [4]

Great Pretender , Jujutsu Kaisen , and Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! each received ten nominations, followed by Beastars with eight and Tower of God at seven. [2] Among the nominated were Mamoru Miyano, who received his third nomination in the awards, this time for Best Ending Sequence. Voice actor Yuichi Nakamura received his second nomination in the Best VA Performance (JP) category. Yutaka Yamada was nominated in two categories, Best Score and Best Opening Sequence. Jujutsu Kaisen's opening and ending theme were both nominated in their respective categories. Japanese band ALI received two nominations, one in Best Opening Sequence and one in Best Ending Sequence. Directors Masaaki Yuasa and Yuzuru Tachikawa each received their second nomination as Best Director. Fruits Basket was again nominated for a second time in the Best Drama category. Kaguya-sama: Love is War? received its second nomination in Best Comedy. Two fight scenes from The God of High School were nominated for the Best Fight Scene award. Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyuki Shirogane, winners in the previous edition, was nominated again for Best Couple. Kevin Penkin received his third straight nomination for Best Score.

Jujutsu Kaisen won the Anime of the Year award. [5] [6] Kaguya-sama: Love is War? won Best Comedy for the second time. Kevin Penkin received his second win for Best Score. [5] ALI both won Best Opening Sequence and Best Ending Sequence for "Wild Side" and "Lost in Paradise" respectively. Masaaki Yuasa is a Japanese director, screenwriter, and animator affiliated with Science SARU, a Japanese animation studio which he co-founded with producer Eunyoung Choi in 2013. Yuasa previously served as president of Science SARU, but stepped down from this role in 2020. <i>Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!</i> Japanese manga series and its adaptations

Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Sumito Ōwara. It has been serialized in Shogakukan's seinen manga magazine Monthly Big Comic Spirits since 2016 and has been collected in nine tankōbon volumes as of December 2024.

Abel Góngora is a Spanish animator and director known for his work with the Japanese animation studio Science SARU. Having joined the studio as one of its first employees, Góngora serves as the head of Science SARU's digital animation department and has specialized in the use of Adobe Animate. In addition to his work as an animator, Góngora has also served as an episode director for promotional episodes of the American series OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes, and as the director of T0-B1, a short film segment of the Disney+ anthology project Star Wars: Visions.

The 3rd Crunchyroll Anime Awards were held on February 16, 2019, honoring excellence in anime from 2018. Crunchyroll announced the details for the third edition of the awards on December 4, 2018. The list of judges as well as the categories to be presented were announced on December 17. Public voting was conducted from January 11 to 18. Winners were announced on February 16 via a livestream on Twitch. The show was hosted by voice actress Cristina Vee. Several prominent figures in the industry and community were invited to presented the awards, including Kevin Penkin, who previously won the 2018 award for Best Score.

The 4th Crunchyroll Anime Awards were held on February 15, 2020, honoring excellence in anime from 2019. Crunchyroll announced the categories and the list of judges for the 2020 awards on December 17, while also noting that the list was still not complete. They also noted that they've increased their judges by over 50%, with more than half of them coming from outside the United States. Nominees were announced on the first day of voting, January 10. Voting ran until January 17, with the results announced on February 15. The show was hosted by WWE wrestler Xavier Woods and Tim Lyu. Several personalities in the anime community were invited to present the awards.

Eunyoung Choi (Korean: 최은영) is a South Korean studio executive, producer, director and animator. She is the President and CEO of Science Saru, a Japanese animation studio which she co-founded with Masaaki Yuasa in 2013, and has served as producer of the company's works. In 2020, following the announcement that Yuasa would step down from an executive role at Science Saru, Choi assumed responsibility for the management of the studio. In 2021, she directed a short animated film entitled Akakiri for the short film anthology Star Wars: Visions.

Hiroshi Seko is a Japanese anime screenwriter. After serving as an episode screenwriter, he was given the role of head screenwriter for Seraph of the End. Since then, he has done screenwriting for many other series, such as critically acclaimed titles Attack on Titan, Mob Psycho 100, Vinland Saga,Jujutsu Kaisen, and Chainsaw Man. He frequently collaborates with Wit Studio and MAPPA.

Sunghoo Park is a South Korean anime director and animator based in Japan. He is best known for directing the anime television series The God of High School and the first season of Jujutsu Kaisen.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Satoru Gojo</span> Fictional character from Jujutsu Kaisen

Satoru Gojo is a character from Gege Akutami's manga Jujutsu Kaisen. He was first introduced in Akutami's short series Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School as the mentor of the cursed teenager Yuta Okkotsu at Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School. This miniseries became the prequel Jujutsu Kaisen 0 of Jujutsu Kaisen. In Jujutsu Kaisen, Gojo takes the same role but mentors the student Yuji Itadori who suffers a similar Curse, helping him become stronger while protecting other characters in the series.

The 6th Crunchyroll Anime Awards was held on February 9, 2022, honoring excellence in anime from 2021. Crunchyroll opened the public nominations for judges on October 14, 2021, running until October 20. On December 16, Crunchyroll revealed the list of judges. Nominees was announced on January 18. Voting ended on January 25. Winners was announced on February 9.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Ryomen Sukuna</span> Fictional character from Jujutsu Kaisen

Ryomen Sukuna is a fictional character and one of the central antagonists of the manga and anime series Jujutsu Kaisen created by Gege Akutami. A Heian Era sorcerer, he was once known notoriously as the King of Curses and well known as the greatest Sorcerer to ever live. Although originally human, upon death, Sukuna sealed himself as a cursed object, wherein his immense divine power divided within 20 fingers. At the beginning of the story, Yuji Itadori eats one of Sukuna's fingers, becoming his Vessel and bringing Sukuna back to life.

The 7th Crunchyroll Anime Awards was held on March 4, 2023, at the Main Banquet Hall of the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa in Tokyo, Japan. It was the first ceremony to be held in person since 2020; both ceremonies in 2021 and 2022 were held virtually. Additionally, it was the first ceremony to be held in Japan, as previous physical ceremonies were held in the United States. Anime released on television or online in Japan from November 2021 to September 2022 were eligible for nominations for this edition. The ceremony was hosted by voice actress Sally Amaki and presenter Jon Kabira, with Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida opening the show. Previous winners ALI and AKLO, Yuki Kajiura, and Kohta Yamamoto performed at the ceremony, while singer Haruka Kaki of Nogizaka46, comedian Kendo Kobayashi, entertainer Roland, and actress Sawa Suzuki presented the awards to the winners together with various voice actors and entertainers. Sony Music Solutions collaborated with Crunchyroll in planning and operations, with Telescope Inc. administering the voting process. Crunchyroll streamed the ceremony live on YouTube and Twitch, as well as on SonyLIV in India. Voting for the Anime of the Year category included "social voting" for the first time, which allowed Twitter users to vote for the category by posting the necessary hashtags or by retweeting. The list of nominees were announced on the first day of voting, January 19. Voting closed on January 25.

The 8th Crunchyroll Anime Awards were held at the Main Banquet Hall of the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa in Tokyo, Japan. It was hosted by Sally Amaki and Jon Kabira, who hosted the previous ceremony. Anime released in full or partially between October 2022 and September 2023 are eligible for nominations for this edition. This edition featured 32 categories, most of which are presented in the previous ceremony and include industry awards for Best Cinematography and Art Direction for the first time, as well as the return of Best Slice of Life from 2018. Categories and the list of judges were revealed on December 5. Nominees were revealed on the first day of public voting, January 17. Voting closed on January 27. Presenters for the ceremony on March 2 was announced on January 17, and included American rapper Megan Thee Stallion, Canadian actress Iman Vellani, and Japanese singer LiSA, with Sony Group Corporation CEO Kenichiro Yoshida giving opening remarks.

<i>Jujutsu Kaisen</i> (TV series) Japanese anime series

Jujutsu Kaisen is a Japanese anime television series produced by MAPPA, based on the manga series of the same name by Gege Akutami. The story follows high school student Yuji Itadori as he joins a secret organization of Jujutsu Sorcerers to eliminate a powerful Curse named Ryomen Sukuna, of whom Yuji becomes the host. The series broadcasts on MBS and TBS in Japan. It has been licensed by Crunchyroll for streaming outside of Asia, which premiered an English dub in November 2020. The anime's original soundtrack was released in April 2021.

The Crunchyroll Anime Award for Best VA Performance are awards given at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards rewarding the best voice acting performance in anime. Given annually by the anime streaming service Crunchyroll, winners are determined through a combined voting process by judges and public voting.
