The 7th Crunchyroll Anime Awards was held on March 4, 2023, at the Main Banquet Hall of the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa in Tokyo, Japan. [1] [2] It was the first ceremony to be held in person since 2020; both ceremonies in 2021 and 2022 were held virtually. Additionally, it was the first ceremony to be held in Japan, as previous physical ceremonies were held in the United States. Anime released on television or online in Japan from November 2021 to September 2022 were eligible for nominations for this edition. [3] The ceremony was hosted by voice actress Sally Amaki and presenter Jon Kabira, [4] with Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida opening the show. [5] Previous winners ALI and AKLO, Yuki Kajiura, and Kohta Yamamoto performed at the ceremony, while singer Haruka Kaki of Nogizaka46, comedian Kendo Kobayashi, entertainer Roland, and actress Sawa Suzuki presented the awards to the winners together with various voice actors and entertainers. [6] Sony Music Solutions collaborated with Crunchyroll in planning and operations, with Telescope Inc. administering the voting process. [4] Crunchyroll streamed the ceremony live on YouTube and Twitch, as well as on SonyLIV in India. [6] Voting for the Anime of the Year category included "social voting" for the first time, which allowed Twitter users to vote for the category by posting the necessary hashtags or by retweeting. Crunchyroll announced the judges and categories on December 8, 2022. This edition featured 31 categories, and was divided into "main categories" and "fan categories". [9] The winners for the main categories were announced physically, while winners for the fan categories were announced via a global livestream event that was held prior. [3] New categories were introduced: "Must Protect at All Cost" Character, Best Original Anime, Presenter's Choice, Best Anime Song, Best Supporting Character, and Best New Series. [3] Best Continuing Series was reinstated after being absent since 2019. Best Main Character and Best Supporting Character replaced Best Main Character, Best Boy, and Best Girl categories. [10] A Special Achievement Award was introduced after it was not awarded in the previous editions. Presenter's Choice was also introduced. However, both of these awards were not presented during the ceremony. [10] Two new languages, Arabic and Italian, were included in the Best Voice Actor Performance, but Russian was dropped. [3] The awards for Best Girl, Best Boy, Best Antagonist, and Best Fight Scene were dropped. [3] [10]
Spy × Family garnered the most nominations with 19, followed by Ranking of Kings (17 nominations) and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners (13 nominations). The three anime series were nominated for Anime of the Year, together with Attack on Titan: The Final Season Part 2 , Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Entertainment District Arc , and Lycoris Recoil . All Anime of the Year nominees, except Lycoris Recoil, were also nominated on the Best Animation category, together with Akebi's Sailor Uniform . Commercially successful films Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero and Jujutsu Kaisen 0 were nominated in the Best Film category, together with Bubble , The Deer King , and Annie Awards nominee Inu-Oh . [5]
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners won Anime of the Year, becoming the first video game adaptation and prequel series to win, as well as Zach Aguilar who also won the Best VA Performance (English) award for his work as David Martinez. [11] [12] Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Entertainment District Arc, Attack on Titan: The Final Season Part 2, and Spy × Family are tied for the most wins with six. [11] The film Jujutsu Kaisen 0 won three awards, including the Best Film category. [11] Eren Jaeger from Attack on Titan won Best Main Character, while Anya Forger from Spy × Family won Best Supporting Character and "Must Protect At All Costs" Character. [11] Haruo Sotozaki, director of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Entertainment District Arc, won Best Director. [11] "The Rumbling" won Best Opening Sequence and Best Anime Song, while "Comedy" won Best Ending Sequence. [11] Yuki Kaji won Best VA Performance (Japanese) for two consecutive years. Amal Hawija and Elisa Giorgio won the inaugural Best VA Performance for Arabic and Italian, respectively. [11] Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Entertainment District Arc won Best Action and Best Fantasy, Spy × Family won Best Comedy, Attack on Titan: The Final Season Part 2 won Best Drama, and Kaguya-sama: Love Is War – Ultra Romantic won Best Romance. The Crunchyroll Anime Awards, also known simply as The Anime Awards, are awards given annually by the anime streaming service Crunchyroll to recognize the best anime of the previous year. Announced in December 2016, the awards were first presented in January 2017. Crunchyroll describes it as a "global event that recognizes the anime shows, characters, and artists that fans around the world love most."
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotouge. It was serialized in Shueisha's shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump from February 2016 to May 2020, with its chapters collected in 23 tankōbon volumes. It has been published in English by Viz Media and simultaneously on the Manga Plus platform by Shueisha. It follows teenage Tanjiro Kamado, who joins the Demon Slayer Corps after his family is slaughtered and the sole survivor, his younger sister Nezuko, is turned into a demon, in the hopes of turning her human again and defeating the demon king Muzan Kibutsuji.
Tanjiro Kamado is a fictional character and the protagonist of Koyoharu Gotouge's manga Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. Tanjiro goes on a quest to restore the humanity of his sister, Nezuko, who was turned into a demon after his family was killed by Muzan Kibutsuji following an attack that resulted in the death of his other relatives. After an encounter with Giyu Tomioka, a demon slayer, Tanjiro is recruited by Giyu to also become a demon slayer to help his sister turn human again and avenge his family. Besides Ufotable's Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba anime adaptation, Tanjiro has also appeared in a light novel that acts as a prequel to the manga.
Nezuko Kamado is a fictional character in Koyoharu Gotouge's manga series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. Nezuko and her older brother Tanjiro Kamado are the sole survivors of an incident through which they lost their entire family due to the Demon King, Muzan Kibutsuji, with Nezuko being transformed into a demon, but unexpectedly still showing signs of human emotion and thought. After an encounter with Giyu Tomioka, a demon slayer, Tanjiro begins his quest to help his sister turn back into a human and avenge the death of his family.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train, also known simply as Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, is a 2020 Japanese animated dark fantasy action film based on the "Mugen Train" arc of the 2016–20 manga series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba by Koyoharu Gotouge. It is a direct sequel to the first season of the anime television series as well as its first film adaptation. The film was directed by Haruo Sotozaki and written by Ufotable staff members.
The 4th Crunchyroll Anime Awards were held on February 15, 2020, honoring excellence in anime from 2019. Crunchyroll announced the categories and the list of judges for the 2020 awards on December 17, while also noting that the list was still not complete. They also noted that they've increased their judges by over 50%, with more than half of them coming from outside the United States. Nominees were announced on the first day of voting, January 10. Voting ran until January 17, with the results announced on February 15. The show was hosted by WWE wrestler Xavier Woods and Tim Lyu. Several personalities in the anime community were invited to present the awards.

The first season, also known as Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc, adapts the first seven volumes of the manga and aired from April 6 to September 28, 2019, on Tokyo MX, GTV, GYT, BS11, and other networks. Haruo Sotozaki directed the anime with scripts by the Ufotable staff. Yuki Kajiura and Go Shiina composed the music, and Akira Matsushima is the character designer. Hikaru Kondo is the producer.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is a Japanese anime television series based on Koyoharu Gotouge's manga series of the same name. The second season adapts from the 7th volume to the 11th volume of the manga and ran for two continuous cours. The first part, titled Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Mugen Train Arc, is a seven-episode recompilation of the "Mugen Train" arc as featured in the 2020 anime film. It contains new music and an all new anime original episode which takes place immediately before the main story. The first part aired from October 10 to November 28, 2021. The second part, titled Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Entertainment District Arc, aired eleven episodes from December 5, 2021, to February 13, 2022. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles is a fighting action-adventure game developed by CyberConnect2. Based on the 2019 anime adaptation of Koyoharu Gotouge's manga series, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, the game was released by Aniplex in Japan, and globally by Sega, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in October 2021. It was released for Nintendo Switch in June 2022.
Zachary Aguilar is an American voice actor who has appeared in various English dubbed versions of Japanese anime and video games. Aguilar's first major role was Genos in One Punch Man, and has since appeared as Tanjiro Kamado in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Koichi Hirose in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable, Arthur Pendragon in The Seven Deadly Sins and David Martinez in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
Haruo Sotozaki is a Japanese anime and film director. He made his full directorial debut in 2004 with the anime adaptation of Ninja Nonsense. In 2019, he directed the anime adaptation of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, as well as its film, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train in 2020, which has earned numerous awards.
The 6th Crunchyroll Anime Awards was held on February 9, 2022, honoring excellence in anime from 2021. Crunchyroll opened the public nominations for judges on October 14, 2021, running until October 20. On December 16, Crunchyroll revealed the list of judges. Nominees was announced on January 18. Voting ended on January 25. Winners was announced on February 9.

Presenters for the ceremony on March 2 was announced on January 17, and included American rapper Megan Thee Stallion, Canadian actress Iman Vellani, and Japanese singer LiSA, with Sony Group Corporation CEO Kenichiro Yoshida giving opening remarks.
