The Crunchyroll Anime Awards, also known simply as The Anime Awards, are awards given annually by the anime streaming service Crunchyroll to recognize the best anime of the previous year. Announced in December 2016, the awards were first presented in January 2017. Crunchyroll describes it as a "global event that recognizes the anime shows, characters, and artists that fans around the world love most."
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotouge. It was serialized in Shueisha's shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump from February 2016 to May 2020, with its chapters collected in 23 tankōbon volumes. It has been published in English by Viz Media and simultaneously on the Manga Plus platform by Shueisha. It follows teenage Tanjiro Kamado, who strives to become a Demon Slayer after his family was slaughtered and his younger sister, Nezuko, is turned into a demon.
Kaguya-sama: Love Is War is a Japanese romantic comedy anime television series based on the manga series of the same name by Aka Akasaka, that premiered on 12 January 2019. It has aired on MBS, Tokyo MX, BS11, GTV, GYT, CTV, and TeNY.
Tanjiro Kamado is a fictional character and the protagonist of Koyoharu Gotouge's manga Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. Tanjiro goes on a quest to restore the humanity of his sister, Nezuko, who was turned into a demon after his family was killed by Muzan Kibutsuji following an attack that resulted in the death of his other relatives. After an encounter with Giyu Tomioka, a demon slayer, Tanjiro is recruited by Giyu to also become a demon slayer to help his sister turn human again and avenge his family. Besides Ufotable's Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba anime adaptation, Tanjiro has also appeared in a light novel that acts as a prequel to the manga.
Nezuko Kamado is a fictional character in Koyoharu Gotouge's manga series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. Nezuko and her older brother Tanjiro Kamado are the sole survivors of an incident through which they lost their entire family due to the Demon King, Muzan Kibutsuji, with Nezuko being transformed into a demon, but unexpectedly still showing signs of human emotion and thought. After an encounter with Giyu Tomioka, a demon slayer, Tanjiro begins his quest to help his sister turn back into a human and avenge the death of his family.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train, also known simply as Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, is a 2020 Japanese animated dark fantasy action film based on the "Mugen Train" arc of the 2016–20 manga series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba by Koyoharu Gotouge. The film is a direct sequel to the first season of the anime television series. The film was directed by Haruo Sotozaki and written by Ufotable staff members.
The 5th Crunchyroll Anime Awards were held on February 19, 2021, honoring excellence in anime from 2020. Crunchyroll announced the list of categories as well as the judges on December 16, 2020. They noted that the categories used in the previous edition were to be used in this edition as well. They also noted that the number of judges increased. Nominees were announced on January 15, the first day of voting. It ran until January 22. There were 15 million votes cast, with a majority coming from the United States, Mexico, and Brazil. The awards ceremony was streamed live on February 19 as a digital event. It was virtually hosted by Tim Lyu with Crunchyroll-Hime, the official mascot of Crunchyroll. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Crunchyroll noted that the show "will look different."
Koyoharu Gotouge is a Japanese manga artist, known for the manga series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (2016–2020). By February 2021, the manga had over 150 million copies in circulation, making it one of the best-selling manga series of all time.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is a Japanese anime television series based on Koyoharu Gotouge's manga series of the same name. The second season adapts from the 7th volume to the 11th volume of the manga and ran for two continuous cours. The first part, titled Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Mugen Train Arc, is a seven-episode recompilation of the "Mugen Train" arc as featured in the 2020 anime film. It contains new music and an all new anime original episode which takes place immediately before the main story. The first part aired from October 10 to November 28, 2021. The second part, titled Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Entertainment District Arc, aired eleven episodes from December 5, 2021, to February 13, 2022. Some of her roles include Kanao Tsuyuri from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Tuesday from Carole & Tuesday, Hu Tao from Genshin Impact, Chisaki Hiradaira from Nagi-Asu: A Lull in the Sea, Tita Russell from The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV, Sakura from Fire Emblem Fates, and Rem from Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World. She is also a singer and songwriter known as Starless.
Hiroshi Seko is a Japanese anime screenwriter. After serving as an episode screenwriter, he was given the role of head screenwriter for Seraph of the End. Since then, he has done screenwriting for many other series, such as critically acclaimed titles Attack on Titan, Mob Psycho 100, Vinland Saga,Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man. He mostly works with Wit Studio and MAPPA.
Haruo Sotozaki is a Japanese anime and film director. He made his full directorial debut in 2004 with the anime adaptation of Ninja Nonsense. In 2019, he directed the anime adaptation of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, as well as its film, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train in 2020, which has earned numerous awards.
The 6th Crunchyroll Anime Awards was held on February 9, 2022, honoring excellence in anime from 2021. Crunchyroll opened the public nominations for judges on October 14, 2021, running until October 20. On December 16, Crunchyroll revealed the list of judges. Nominees was announced on January 18. Voting ended on January 25. Winners was announced on February 9.
The 7th Crunchyroll Anime Awards was held on March 4, 2023, at the Main Banquet Hall of the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa in Tokyo, Japan. It was the first ceremony to be held in person since 2020; both ceremonies in 2021 and 2022 were held virtually. Additionally, it was the first ceremony to be held in Japan, as previous physical ceremonies were held in the United States. Anime released on television or online in Japan from November 2021 to September 2022 were eligible for nominations for this edition. The ceremony was hosted by voice actress Sally Amaki and presenter Jon Kabira, with Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida opening the show. Previous winners ALI and AKLO, Yuki Kajiura, and Kohta Yamamoto performed at the ceremony, while singer Haruka Kaki of Nogizaka46, comedian Kendo Kobayashi, entertainer Roland, and actress Sawa Suzuki presented the awards to the winners together with various voice actors and entertainers. Sony Music Solutions collaborated with Crunchyroll in planning and operations, with Telescope Inc. administering the voting process. Crunchyroll streamed the ceremony live on YouTube and Twitch, as well as on SonyLIV in India. Voting for the Anime of the Year category included "social voting" for the first time, which allowed Twitter users to vote for the category by posting the necessary hashtags or by retweeting. The list of nominees were announced on the first day of voting, January 19. Voting closed on January 25.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is a Japanese anime television series produced by Ufotable, based on the manga series of the same name by Koyoharu Gotouge. The series follows teenage Tanjiro Kamado, who strives to become a Demon Slayer after his family was slaughtered and his younger sister, Nezuko, is turned into a demon. It premiered on April 6, 2019. It has aired on Tokyo MX, GTV, GYT, BS11 and Fuji TV. In North America, the series has been licensed by Aniplex of America and is streamed on Crunchyroll, Hulu, and Funimation. The English dub of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba was aired on Adult Swim's Toonami programming block in the United States.
The 8th Crunchyroll Anime Awards is set to be held on March 2, 2024, at the Main Banquet Hall of the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa in Tokyo, Japan. It is set to be hosted by Sally Amaki and Jon Kabira, who hosted the previous ceremony. Anime released in full or partially between October 2022 and September 2023 are eligible for nominations for this edition. This edition features 32 categories, most of which are presented in the previous ceremony and include industry awards for Best Cinematography and Art Direction for the first time, as well as the return of Best Slice of Life from 2018. Categories and the list of judges were revealed on December 5. Nominees were revealed on the first day of public voting, January 17. Voting closed on January 27. Presenters for the ceremony on March 2 was announced on January 17, and are set to include American rapper Megan Thee Stallion, Canadian actress Iman Vellani, and Japanese singer LiSA, with Sony Group Corporation CEO Kenichiro Yoshida giving opening remarks.
The Crunchyroll Anime Award for Anime of the Year is the highest award given at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards since its inaugural edition in 2017. It is given for the best anime series from the previous year. Winners are determined through a combined voting process by judges and public voting.
