Abbeydale Park is a sports venue in Dore, South Yorkshire, England. It is unusual in having hosted home games for two different county cricket teams.
The Park first opened for cricket in 1921, with the first pavilion being completed the following year. Its first tenant was the Sheffield Collegiate Cricket Club. [1] The ground was in Derbyshire until the county boundary was redrawn in 1934, and Derbyshire County Cricket Club played two first-class matches there in 1946 and 1947.
With the closure of Bramall Lane to cricket, Yorkshire County Cricket Club began playing at the venue in 1974, and continued regular matches until 1996. [2] In 2007, the club returned to the ground for some second team games.
In addition to cricket, football was also played at the Park, with Sheffield F.C., the oldest football club in the world, played there from September 1921 until 1988. Argentina and Switzerland both trained at the ground during the 1966 World Cup. [3]
The park is now home to a variety of sports, including squash, hockey, badminton, table tennis, racketball, bowls, and rugby in addition to cricket.
Abbeydale Park is home to Sheffield RUFC (formed 1902) who have been based in the area since 1919. [4] The rugby club are situated in the southern half of the complex and share their facilities with the cricket teams. Facilities include a large club-house and bar, pitches for both cricket and rugby union, a stand and floodlights to ensure matches can be played throughout the winter. There is also a choice of two car parks at the complex. [5]
In terms of capacity, the rugby ground has space for around 3,200 spectators, a figure that includes 100 seated in the stand. The ground was host to Rotherham Titans semi-final play-off games in the RFU Championship in 2014 and 2015 and saw attendances of 3,267 and 3,227 respectively. [6] [7] In recent years Sheffield achieved an attendance of 1,820 for their derby game in National League 2 North against city rivals Sheffield Tigers on 23 December 2017.
Sheffield Collegiate Cricket Club have been playing cricket at Abbeydale Park since 1921. The cricket club was a mainstay of the Yorkshire Cricket League before its dissolution in 2014, it has since played in the Yorkshire South Premier League. The club is notable for producing two England Cricket captains, Joe Root and Michael Vaughan.
Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England, was completed in 1990, and hosted the 1991 World Student Games. It was named after the nearby River Don. The stadium was demolished in 2013.

Rotherham Rugby Union Football Club, or Rotherham Titans is a professional rugby union team from Rotherham, South Yorkshire, currently playing in the fourth tier of the English rugby union league system, following their relegation from the National League 1 at the end of the 2019–2020 season.
Derbyshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Derbyshire. Its limited overs team is called the Derbyshire Falcons in reference to the famous peregrine falcon which nests on the Derby Cathedral. Founded in 1870, the club held first-class status from its first match in 1871 until 1887. Because of poor performances and lack of fixtures in some seasons, Derbyshire then lost its status for seven seasons until it was invited into the County Championship in 1895. Derbyshire is also classified as a List A team since the beginning of limited overs cricket in 1963; and classified as a senior Twenty20 team since 2003. In recent years the club has enjoyed record attendances with over 24,000 people watching their home Twenty20 fixtures in 2017 – a record for a single campaign. The local derby versus Yorkshire at Chesterfield now regularly sells out in advance.
Sheffield has a long history of involvement in sport. Although cricket was the first organised sport, it has gradually been supplanted by football. Both the main two local football teams grew out of cricket teams. Sheffield can claim many firsts in football the most famous one being Sheffield F.C. being the world's first and oldest football club. Today it has a club in every major team sport in England. Sheffield became the first UK National City of Sport in 1995 and is now home to the English Institute of Sport (EIS).
The Millmoor Ground, commonly known as Millmoor, is a football stadium in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, England. It was the home ground of Rotherham County F.C. between 1907 and 1925 and then its successor Rotherham United F.C. until 2008. The stadium has had no professional tenant since, but has been in use again for local youth football since 2016. It has been described as 'the spiritual home' of Rotherham United.

The club play in National League 2 North, at the fourth level of the English rugby union system, following promotion from the Midlands Premier at the end of the 2021–22 season.

The Circle was a cricket ground on Anlaby Road in Kingston upon Hull, which hosted 89 first-class matches from 1899 to 1974. Two other matches were rained off without a ball being bowled. Most of the matches were County Championship games featuring Yorkshire County Cricket Club, but matches against touring teams from India, Australia, South Africa and University games were also played there. 19 List A one day games were also played at the venue from 1969 to 1990.
Acklam Park is a rugby union and cricket ground located in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, England. Initially opened in 1929, the venue has hosted games of Middlesbrough RUFC since the ground's opening in 1929, as well as Middlesbrough Cricket Club since 1932. Yorkshire County Cricket Club also played a number of first class matches at Acklam Park between 1956 and 1996. With a capacity of 5,000, the ground initially cost £1,200 in construction cost upon its opening.
Huddersfield Rugby Union Football Club is an English rugby union club based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England. The team plays in the domestic National League 2 North having won promotion from National League 3 North as champions at the end of the 2016–17 season. The club also competes in the Yorkshire Cup competition and play its home matches at Lockwood Park, which has a capacity of 1,500 with seating for 500. HRUFC also has an academy squad, feeding the senior team with new players.
National League 2 North is one of three level four leagues in the English rugby union system and provides semi-professional competition for teams in the northern half of England, the North. The remainder of England is covered by the two counterpart leagues National League 2 East and National League 2 West. The champion club is promoted to National One. Relegation is to either the Regional 1 Midlands, Regional 1 North East or Regional 1 North West, depending on their location. Sedgley Park are the current champions.

The 2013–14 RFU Championship, known for sponsorship reasons as the Greene King IPA Championship, was the fifth season of the professionalised format of the RFU Championship, the second tier of the English rugby union league system run by the Rugby Football Union. It was held between 14 September 2013 and 4 June 2014. It was contested by eleven English clubs and one from Jersey in the Channel Islands. It was also the first Championship season with a title sponsor, as the Rugby Football Union and Greene King Brewery reached a deal by which the brewery would become the competition's main sponsor from 2013–14 through to 2016–17.

Richard Vasey is an English rugby union player, currently playing at Fly-half for Caldy in National League 2 North. A talented player who has experience of playing at a higher level with clubs such as Leeds Carnegie and Moseley, Vasey is a reliable points kicker who has become one of the most prolific in National League 2 North history with over 1,400 points for Caldy. He has also been capped by England Students.
Neil Spence is a former professional rugby union player who played at Gloucester, Leicester Tigers and Rotherham Titans in the English top division. He also represented the England age grade sides and numerous counties side. He most recently was Head Coach at Bradford Salem in Counties 1 Yorkshire.
