The Indian Police Service is a civil service under the All India Services. It replaced the Imperial Police in 1948,a year after India became independent from the British Raj.
The All India Services (AIS) comprises two of the union civil services group 'A' gazetted designations known as Indian Administrative Service and Indian Police Service and one of the union natural resources services group 'A' gazetted designations known as the Indian Forest Service. A unique feature of the All India Services is that the members of these services are recruited by the centre,but their services are placed under various State cadres,and they have the ability to serve both under the State and under the centre. Because of the federal polity of the country,this is considered one of the tools that makes union government stronger than state governments. Officers of these three services comply to the All India Services Rules relating to pay,conduct,leave,various allowances etc.
Tamil Nadu Police is the primary law enforcement agency of the state of Tamil Nadu,India. It is over 150 years old and is the fifth largest state police force in India. Tamil Nadu has a police-population ratio of 1:632. The Director General of the Tamil Nadu police is Shankar Jiwal.
The West Bengal Police is one of the two police forces of the Indian state of West Bengal. The other being the Kolkata Police,which has a separate jurisdiction across Kolkata.
P Vijayan,is the Inspector General of Police. He is a 1999 batch official of the Indian Police Service. He is the founder and chief architect of the Student Police Cadet Project,a youth development initiative.
B. Sandhya is a retired officer of the Indian Police Service and a former Director General of the Kerala Fire and Rescue Services,Home Guard,and Civil Defence. She is also known for her literary contributions which have won her a number of awards including the Edasseri Award in 2007. She retired from the service with the rank of Director General of Police on May 31,2023.
Gazetted officers include all the Indian Police Service officers which are Class I officers of the cadre and all State Police Services officers of and above the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police. All are arranged in a hierarchical order.
Government Law College,Thiruvananthapuram also known as GLC Trivandrum is one of the institutions imparting graduate and post graduate legal education in India. Affiliated to the University of Kerala,it is the second law college in Kerala and one of the oldest law colleges in India. It was established in 1875 by the then Maharajah of the erstwhile Princely State of Travancore. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) is the civil service training institution in India. The institute trains Indian Police Service (IPS) officers before they are sent to their respective state cadres to carry out their duties. The academy is in Shivrampalli,Hyderabad,Telangana,India.
The Thiruvananthapuram City Police is the police force of the city of Thiruvananthapuram,Kerala,India. It has the primary responsibilities of law enforcement and investigation within the limits of Thiruvananthapuram. It is headed by the Police Commissioner of Thiruvananthapuram,who is generally an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer holding the IG rank. There is currently 24 police stations in the city. White Patrol and mobile units are in operation and their movements are supervised by marshal units.
Raman Srivastava was a 1973 batch Indian Police Service officer who served as the Director general of police in Kerala Police from February 2005 till November 2008. He is also a former Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF),the border patrol agency of the Government of India.

Asha Sinha is a former Director General of Police in Jharkhand Police. She has the distinction of being appointed the first Woman Commandant of any of police force in the year 1992. She has held several important assignments in the States of Maharashtra,Jharkhand,Bihar and Government of India culminating in the appointment to the senior most position,as Director General of Police in the year 2013.

Vattavayalil Joseph Thomas,known simply as Joseph Thomas in police and political circles,was an officer of Indian Police Service,who served as the Director General of Kerala Police.

Anil Kant,a retired Indian Police Service (I.P.S.) officer,served as the State Police Chief and Director General of Police of Kerala. He was the former Road Safety Commissioner in Kerala. He is the first Dalit officer on the chief post in the police department of Kerala. Kant is from Delhi.
The Home Department is a administrative department of the Government of Kerala. It plays a key role in maintenance of law and order in the state of Kerala. The department oversees the maintenance of law and order,prevention and control of crime,prosecution of criminals besides dealing with fire services and prisons administration.
