Acero (born August 4, 1984) is a Mexican luchador enmascarado , or masked professional wrestler working for the Mexican professional wrestling promotion Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) in their Mini-Estrella division. Working in the Mini-Estrellas division does not necessarily mean that Acero is a dwarf as several wrestlers who are just shorter in stature work in the "Mini" division. [1] Acero is Spanish for "Steel" and is a shortened version of his previous ring name Niño de Acero or "Boy of Steel". Acero's real name is not a matter of public record, as is often the case with masked wrestlers in Mexico where their private lives are kept a secret from the wrestling fans. [2]

Personal life

Acero is a third-generation professional wrestler, his grandfather worked under the ring name Canario Amarillo ("Yellow Canary") and his father wrestled under the name Destello Azul ("Blue Spark") and his brother is currently active as a professional wrestler as well, using the name El Juez ("The Judge"), none of whom worked in the Mini-Estrella division. [3] Despite both his father and grandfather being professional wrestlers Acero did not receive any significant training from his family, instead listing Ray Mendoza as one of his teachers as well as Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) trainer El Hijo del Gladiador and CMLL wrestler Virus as the people who trained him both before and after his professional wrestling debut.

Professional wrestling career

In Lucha Libre it is traditional to keep the true identity of a masked wrestler a secret, not revealing their real names and often not revealing what previous ring names they have competed under. [2] No previous ring identities have been confirmed for Acero and it has been stated that his CMLL debut was also his professional debut, but with the traditions of Lucha Libre it is entirely possible that his debut date is for that of his ring character, not him personally, which means could have worked under other names before this. [2]

Niño de Acero (2008–2012)

He made his debut for Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre in the summer of 2008 under the ring name "Niño de Acero", Spanish for "Boy of Steel", the nickname of the Comic book hero Superboy. In September 2008 CMLL decided to add another championship to their Mini-Estrellas division when they made the Mexican National Lightweight Championship Mini-Estrellas exclusive. [4] Niño de Acero was placed in the first group of wrestlers hoping to qualify for the tournament final, but was eliminated in the Torneo cibernetico elimination match that took place on September 9, 2009. [5] He competed in the 2009 Pequeños Reyes del Aire ("Little Kings of the Air") tournament, where he was the third man eliminated out of nine competitors in total. [6] The Mini-Estrella division was featured in its first ever pay-per-view main event at CMLL's La Hora Cero ("Zero Hour") as 14 Mini-Estrellas all put their masks on the line in a Steel cage match where the last two people in the ring would have to wrestle under Lucha de Apuesta (bet match) rules inside the steel cage. Whoever lost the match would be forced to unmask per Lucha Libre traditions. Niño de Acero managed to climb out of the cage as the fifth overall escapee, ensuring that he did not have to risk his mask at the end of the match. [7]

During a match in Arena Puebla on February 23, 2009, suffered a debilitating injury as he fractured his femur during a move executed by Pierrothito. [8] The injury kept Niño de Acero out of the ring for three years, first as the fractured femur healed, then as he went through over a year of physical therapy and rehabilitation to be medically cleared to wrestle again. [8] He returned to active competition on March 4, 2012 teaming with rudos (wrestlers who portray the "bad guy" characters) Mercurio and Pequeño Olímpico despite working as a tecnico ("good guy") before his injury. Two months later he returned to working on the tecnico side with no explanation given. On May 1, 2012, Niño de Acero was one of 16 Mini-Estrellas who participated in the 2012 version of the Pequeños Reyes del Aire tournament, but CMLL decided not to have him win the tournament. [9]

Acero (2012–present)

Niño de Acero shorted his name to simply "Acero" ("Steel") and first worked under that name on the September 28, 2012 Super Viernes show where he teamed up with Fantasy and Shockercito as the team defeated Mercurio, Pequeño Black Warrior, and Pequeño Violencia. [10]

Andrés Muñoz Andrade is a Mexican luchador who is best known for wrestling under the name of Pequeño Olímpico. He previously wrestled as a luchador enmascarado, or masked wrestler, before his defeat to Angelito in a Luchas de apuestas, mask vs. mask match at Homenaje a Dos Leyendas 2024. Pequeño Olímpico is a part of Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre's (CMLL) Mini-Estrella division and holds the record for the longest CMLL World Mini-Estrella Championship reign, with 1,442 days. He has held the title twice. Pequeño Olímpico is Spanish for "Little Olympian", alluding to the fact that he wrestles as a mini version of Olímpico. Working in the Mini-Estrellas division does not necessarily mean that Pequeño Halcón is a dwarf as several wrestlers who are just shorter in stature work in the "Mini" division. His ring name is Spanish for "Little Falcon", the same name that his father competed under during his professional wrestling career. Halcón worked under mask until April 2014, when he lost a match and forced to unmask and reveal his identity as a result.

Halcón Suriano Jr./Stukita is a Mexican luchador enmascarado, or masked professional wrestler, under contract with the Mexican professional wrestling promotion Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL). Until the fall of 2018 he worked under the name "Stukita" in CMLL's Mini-Estrella division. Working in the Mini-Estrellas division did not mean that Stukita is a dwarf as several wrestlers who are just shorter in stature work in the "Mini" division. The name "Stukita" was the diminutive form of "Stuka", as he portrayed a smaller version of wrestlers Stuka and Stuka, Jr. He is a third-generation wrestler with both his father and grandfather being professional wrestlers before him, which he honors by working under the name 'Halcón Suriano Jr." His real name is not a matter of public record, as is often the case with masked wrestlers in Mexico where their private lives are kept a secret from the wrestling fans.

<i>Pequeño Reyes del Aire</i> Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre tournament

The Pequeño Reyes del Aire Tournament is an annual wrestling tournament promoted by the Mexican professional wrestling promotion Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) and has been held since 2007, holding two tournaments in 2012, and one every other year. The tournament includes a varying number of wrestlers, competing in a Torneo cibernetico match, essentially a multi-man elimination match with the last competitor remaining is declared that year's Pequeño Rey del Aire and is given a trophy. The match is based on CMLL's Reyes del Aire tournament which has an identical purpose, format and award. The winner is not normally awarded with a match for the CMLL World Mini-Estrella Championship or the Mexican National Lightweight Championship, the two Mini-Estrellas championships that CMLL promotes, as a direct result of their tournament victory but has as times been used to build but either a championship match or storylines between rival wrestlers.

<i>Sin Salida</i> (2013) Mexican professional wrestling supercard show

Sin Salida was a professional wrestling major event produced by Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) that took place on June 2, 2013, in Arena México, Mexico City, Mexico. The main event featured a 10-man Steel cage match contested under Lucha de Apuestas, or "Bet match" rules where the loser would be forced to either unmask or, if he was already unmasked, have all his hair shaved off. This particular match included 10 Mini-Estrellass with 4 of them risking their mask and six risking their hair. The final moments of the match saw Shockercito pin Pequeño Violencia to win the match. The other featured match of the show saw Negro Casas defend the NWA World Historic Welterweight Championship against Máscara Dorada. The show also included three additional matches.

Javier Teucli Roldán (born July 3, 1968, in Puebla, Puebla, Mexico, is a retired Mexican Luchador or professional wrestler best known under the name Sombrita. Teucli also worked under the ring name Pequeño Bronce early in his career as a smaller version of the wrestling character Bronce. Teucli worked in the Mini-Estrella division his entire career, working in the Mini division does not necessarily mean that Teucli has dwarfism as several short wrestlers work in the "Mini" division, which is what separates the Mexican Mini-Estrella from traditional Midget wrestling as practiced in the United States among other places.
