Brillante Jr. (born 28 March 2001) is the ring name of a Mexican luchador enmascarado (or masked professional wrestler). He works for Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL). His real name is not a matter of public record, as is often the case with masked wrestlers in Mexico where their private lives are kept a secret from the wrestling fans. [1]

Family

Born in Gómez Palacio, [3] [4] Brillante Jr. is a cousin of Andrade El Idolo. He recalls training together with Andrade when he was only four years old. [5]

He is part of the third generation of the Andrade/El Moro family to compete in lucha libre . [6] His great-grandfather, José Andrade, wrestled under the name "El Moro", while his uncles wrestle or wrestled under the names Diamante/Moro III (Sergio Andrade), Zafiro/Pentagoncito/Espiritu Magico (Juan Andrade), Kevin (Juan Andrade), Espanto Jr./Pentagón (Jesús Andrade), and another one of his cousins works as the current Espanto Jr.. [6] His sister Lady Shadow, also wrestles in CMLL. [3] His own father, however, was never a wrestler. [6]

Career

Early career

This Brillante Jr. made his debut in March 2015 in Arena Azteca, with a mask very much resembling that of La Sombra, Andrade El Idolo's old identity. [7] Before becoming La Sombra, Andrade El Idolo also used the name Brillante Jr. back in the mid-2000s. [8] [9] [10] [11] Brillante Jr. wrestled locally in the Comarca Lagunera area for over five years, steadily improving and moving up the cards. He established himself as a top aerial wrestler in the area, and soon rose to the top of the cards of the local shows. [12]

In 2019, he worked a match for Pro Wrestling Mexico in Monterrey, a promotion then co-owned by Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide. Teaming with Kratoz and Último Maldito, they were defeated by the team of Komander, Dulce Canela and Baby Xtreme. [13] On 27 March 2022, he worked a dark match for AAA in Torreón. [14]

Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (2023–present)

Brillante Jr.'s move to Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre and Mexico City came when he was invited to participate for the Comarca Lagunera team in CMLL's new Torneo de Escuelas tournament, where the CMLL trainees from Mexico City, Puebla, Guadalajara and La Laguna competed against each other in a series of multi-man matches. The tournament took place in February and March 2023. [15] Brillante Jr. and his teammates lost to the Mexico City team in the first round. [16] However, Brillante Jr. has since established himself as a main roster member in CMLL, working the opening matches both in Arena México and Arena Coliseo, as well as in Guadalajara and Puebla. [17] He has also relocated to the Mexico City area. [2] He portrays a tecnico ("Good guy") wrestling character.

On 4 April, Brillante Jr. wrestled in the Torneo Nueva Generación, a showcase multi-man match at the Arena Coliseo 80th Anniversary show, which marked his first appearance on a major CMLL show. Brillante Jr. was the fifth out of ten to be eliminated, by Rey Samuray, who went on to win the match. [18] On 23 June, Brillante Jr. wrestled for the first time on Viernes Espectaculares or Super Friday, which is CMLLs main show of the week. Together with Neón and Max Star, his team defeated Capitán Suicida, Fuego and Valiente Jr. in the second match of the night. [19]

After winning a qualifier in Torreón, together with Misterio Blanco, [20] Brillante Jr. participated in a multi-man elimination match to crown a new Mexican National Lightweight Champion on 30 July. Brillante Jr. survived until the final two, but eventually lost to Futuro, who became the new champion. [5] [21] The concept of the tournament was that two wrestlers from Guadalajara, Mexico City, Puebla and Laguna respectively competed for the title. [20]

In November 2023, he was selected as part of the CMLL roster for Fantastica Mania 2024 with New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), marking his Japanese debut. [22] On the tour, whch was held in February 2024, Brillante Jr. was mostly used in six-man tag team matches, but did have a singles match, where he was defeated by Titán. [23] From January to February 2024, Brillante Jr. participated in the Torneo Gran Alternativa , alongside Místico; they would go on to defeat Neón and Máscara Dorada in the final. [24]

Ramón Ibarra Rivera, better known by his ring name Volador Jr., is a Mexican luchador, who works for Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL). He portrays a técnico wrestling character and is considered one of the top level técnicos in the promotion. He is the son of Super Parka, and his ring name refers to his father's previous gimmick, Volador. Ibarra is the cousin of the original La Parka, the cousin of El Hijo de L.A. Park and the uncle of Flyer; he is also related to a number of other luchadors in the Ibarra family.

Anselmo Rivas Castro, best known by his ring name Dragón Rojo Jr., is a Mexican luchador. He works for Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL). He is a two-time CMLL World Middleweight Champion, and he currently holds the record for most days as Middleweight Champion. Alongside Último Guerrero, Dragón Rojo Jr. is the longest reigning CMLL World Tag Team Champion in the history of the championship.

La Peste Negra was a Mexican lucha librerudo (villainous) stable in the Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) promotion. The core of the group is the Casas wrestling family, which includes members Negro Casas and El Felino and former members Heavy Metal and Princesa Blanca. The Mexican professional wrestling promotion Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) has traditionally held an annual Reyes del Aire tournament since 2005. There was no tournament in 2010 and both 2007 and 2012 saw two Reyes del Aire tournaments. The tournament includes a varying number of wrestlers, competing in a Torneo cibernetico match, essentially a multi-man elimination match with the last competitor remaining is declared that year's Rey del Aire and is given a trophy. CMLL holds a similar tournament for their Mini-Estrella division called Pequeños Reyes del Aire. Being a professional wrestling tournament, it is not won legitimately; it is instead won via predetermined outcomes to the matches that are kept secret from the general public.

The CMLL Torneo Nacional de Parejas Increíbles 2013 or "National Incredible Pairs Tournament 2013" was the fourth of a series of Lucha Libre tournaments for Tag Teams traditionally held early in the year. The tournament was based on the Lucha Libre Parejas Increíbles match type where two wrestlers of opposite allegiance, portraying either villains, referred to as "Rudos" in Lucha Libre wrestling terminology or fan favorites, or "tecnicos". At times some of the team members were part of a pre-existing scripted feuds or storylines with each other. The tournament was won by the team of La Sombra and Volador Jr.

The Torneo Gran Alternativa (2005) was a professional wrestling tournament held by the Mexican professional wrestling promotion Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre. The tournament was held on July 1, 2005, in Mexico City, Mexico at CMLL's main venue, Arena México. The Gran Alternativa tournament features tag teams composed of a rookie, or novato, and a veteran wrestler for an elimination tournament. The idea is to feature the novato wrestlers higher on the card that they usually work and help elevate one or more up the ranks. CMLL made the Torneo Gran Alternativa an annual event in 1995, only skipping it four times between 1994 and 2017. since it is a professional wrestling tournament, it is not won or lost competitively but instead by the decisions of the bookers of a wrestling promotion that is not publicized prior to the shows to maintain the illusion that professional wrestling is a competitive sport.
