Ducke

Aguiaria is a monotypic genus of flowering plants belonging to the family Malvaceae. [1]

Its native range is Northern Brazil. [1]

The genus was named after Brás de Aguiar (1881–1947), Brazilian naval officer who supported the author of the genus, Adolpho Ducke. [2]

It has one species, [1] Aguiaria excelsaDucke which was first published and described in Ann. Acad. Brasil. Sci. Vol.7 on page 329 in 1935. [3]

As such they most commonly consist of a single, pachycaul trunk topped by a rosette of very large, pinnate leaves, and are usually monocarpous. The genus was first described by Kurt Krause in 1914. The genus name of Sohnreyia is in honour of Heinrich Sohnrey (1859–1948), a German teacher and writer.
