Alice Schmidt Kehaya (born October 3, 1981) is an American middle distance runner who specializes in the 800 meters. She represented the United States at the 2008 Summer Olympics and 2012 London Olympics and has competed at the World Championships in Athletics on three occasions (2005, 2007, 2011).
Schmidt emerged as one of the top collegiate runners while at the University of North Carolina, winning back-to-back NCAA outdoor titles in 2002 and 2003. She won the United States Indoor title in 2006 and has placed in the top three nationally at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships six times. Her personal best for the 800 m is 1:58.61 minutes, set in 2011. Her personal best in the 1500m is 4:05.64, set in 2012.
Born in Omaha, Nebraska, [1] she attended Elkhorn High School then went on to study journalism and political science at the University of North Carolina. She ran in collegiate competition for the North Carolina Tar Heels and in her first year she was runner-up in the 800 m at the NCAA Indoor Championship and the NCAA Outdoor Championship. She was also Atlantic Coast Conference indoors and outdoors that year. She defended her regional titles in 2002, placed third at the NCAA Indoors, then claimed her first NCAA Outdoor title with a personal record run of 2:04.74 minutes. [2]
In her third year at North Carolina she won a second straight NCAA Outdoor title, improving her best to 2:01.16 minutes in the process. She also won the ACC Indoor title and placed top three in both the 800 m and 1500 meters at the ACC Outdoors. In her final year, she did not top the podium at the major collegiate competitions, coming runner-up at the ACC Indoor and Outdoor meets, fifth at the NCAA Indoor Championship, and third over 800 m at the NCAA Outdoor Championship. Schmidt turned professional in 2005 and performed well on the circuit. She was runner-up at the Boston Indoor Games and Millrose Games. She dipped under two minutes at an Italian meeting in Lignano Sabbiadoro, running 1:59.29 minutes, then placed third in the 800 m at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. [2] This led to her first appearance on the global stage at the 2005 World Championships in Athletics, where she was a semi-finalist. [3] Her fastest run of 2006 (1:59.35) ranked her second in the United States that year. She claimed her first national title at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships and was second behind Hazel Clark at the USA Outdoors. [4] Third place at the 2007 USA Outdoors saw her included in the American team for the 2007 World Championships in Athletics. She was knocked out in the heats, but her season was highlighted by a lifetime best of 1:58.75 minutes at the Prefontaine Classic. [2]
Schmidt finished second to Clark at the United States Olympic Trials and made her Olympic debut at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. [5] She did not progress beyond the heats. [1] A stress fracture injury curtailed her 2009 and 2010 seasons. [6] She returned to peak form in 2011, having a season's best of 1:58.61 minutes in Italy. [3] A third-place finish in 1:59.21 minutes at the 2011 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships saw her compete at the World Championships for a third time. She reached the semi-finals at the Daegu World Championships. [2]
A personal best of 4:05.64 minutes came en route to her win in the 1500 m at the 2012 Prefontaine Classic, where she beat world champion Jennifer Simpson. [7] She ran in the 800 m at the 2012 United States Olympic Trials and earned her second Olympic selection by beating Molly Beckwith to the third place spot. Schmidt retired from her career as a professional athlete to pursue a career in medicine. She completed the University of Virginia's Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Medical Program in May, 2014 and is currently enrolled in George Washington University Medical School [10]
Jason Richardson is an American track and field athlete who specializes in the 110 meter hurdles. He won the gold medal in the 110 meter hurdles at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu, and the silver medal in the same event at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. His personal best for the event is 12.98 seconds, set in June 2012 at the U.S. Olympic Trials.
Will Leer is an American mid-distance runner. He graduated from Pomona College in Claremont, California in May 2007. Leer has represented the United States in international competition.
Geena Gall, is an Olympic American mid-distance runner who ran for the University of Michigan. Gall's achievements include back to back NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 800m in 2008 and 2009, representing the USA at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and 2009 World Championships in Athletics in Berlin, Germany in the 800m. She also competed at the North American Central American Caribbean Championships in San Salvador, El Salvador in 2007 and Toluca, Mexico in 2008. Gall was a member of the "Fab Four" who set two collegiate records at the 2007 Penn Relays, a ten-time NCAA All-American, owning two Big Ten 800 meter records and two DMR records, 10 Big Ten championships, numerous U of M school records, and at Grand Blanc High School she was a three-time national champion.
Jennifer Simpson is an American middle- and long-distance runner, formerly a steeplechaser. She won the gold medal in the 1500 meters at the 2011 World Championships, silvers at the 2013 and 2017 World Championships, and a bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics, becoming the first American woman to win an Olympic medal in the event.
Alysia Montaño is an American middle distance runner. She is a six-time USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships 800 metres champion. She gained significant publicity for the 2014 race that she competed while 8 months pregnant.
Jillian Schwartz is an American-born female former pole vaulter who competed internationally for Israel. She represented the United States at the 2004 Summer Olympics and competed at five consecutive World Championships in Athletics from 2003 to 2011. Her best placing in international competition was fourth at the 2004 IAAF World Indoor Championships.
Lacy Janson is an American track and field athlete who specialized in the pole vault. She was the 2010 USA indoor champion in the event and represented her country at the 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships. At college level, she won both an outdoor and an indoor NCAA title for Florida State University.
Sara Elizabeth Slattery is an American middle- and long-distance runner who mainly competes in track races. Slattery has represented the United States at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships at both junior and senior level.
Maurice Mitchell is an American track and field sprinter who specializes in the 200-meter dash. He has a personal record of 20.13 seconds in that event and has bests of 6.55 seconds for the 60-meter dash and 10 seconds for the 100-meter dash. He represented the United States in the relay at the 2011 World Championships and was selected to compete at the 2012 London Olympics.

Kristi Castlin is an American track and field athlete who specializes in the 100 metres hurdles. She won a bronze medal at the 2016 Olympics. She was a silver medalist with the American women's 4 × 400-meter relay team at the 1999 World Championships in Athletics. She was part of the World Championship team twice more, in 2001 and 2005, and helped the United States to silver at the 2002 IAAF World Cup and gold at the 2001 Goodwill Games.

Athing Mu is an American middle-distance runner. She is the youngest woman in history to hold Olympic and world titles in an individual track and field event. At the age of 19, Mu won the gold medal in the 800 meters at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, breaking a national record set by Ajeé Wilson in 2017, and a continental under-20 record. She took a second gold as part of the women's 4 × 400 m relay. She was the 800 m 2022 World champion, becoming the first American woman to win the world championship title over the distance.
