Background

For the Squeakquel, the producers made over 100 songs sung by the Chipmunks and Chipettes, with most not making it into the final cut of the film. [1] [ copyright violation? ] While the soundtrack to the predecessor overall had original tracks written only for the film, its soundtrack, however, featured covers of popular music from artists and bands such as Bee Gees and Alicia Keys amongst several others. [1] [ copyright violation? ] Mike Knobloch, executive vice president of Fox Music, attributed that, on the predecessor's music, "people were a lot more tentative as far as roping in talent or artists; for brand-name songs, people just flat-out denied us". As its soundtrack eventually became successful, being certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, Knobloch utilized on covering popular music for the Squeakquel soundtrack.
