The American International School Chennai (AISC) is an international school in Taramani, Chennai, India. The school is an IB World School and offers the Advanced Placement (AP) program. English is the language of instruction and the school principally serves the expatriate community in Chennai. AISC's current student body consists of approximately 900 students from around the world. School is rated 4.3 out of 5 on the SchoolMyKids.com, School Rating and Reviews platform. [1]

History

The American International School Chennai (AISC) was established in 1995 [2] through a bilateral agreement between the Governments of the United States of America and India. The school and its program was designed to provide instruction, activities, and facilities for families on expatriate assignments in Chennai. It was also meant to serve as a demonstration center of U.S. educational methods and practices. [3]

In 2003, the school, originally located in a small premises in Alwarpet till then, moved to the present-day 10-acre facility at Taramani. The then consul general of the American Consulate in Chennai Richard D. Haynes helped the school in getting the land. The new premises was inaugurated by the late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. [4]

Extracurricular activities

Japanese School Educational Trust of Chennai (チェンナイ補習授業校 Chennai Hoshū Jugyō Kō), a weekend Japanese school, is at American International School Chennai. [5] It moved to AIS Chennai in 2003. [6]

Academic accreditation and memberships

AISC is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS, The Netherlands),[ citation needed ] the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges (MSA, Philadelphia, U.S.A.), [7] and the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO, England). [8]

Toronto Japanese School, also known as The Japanese School of Toronto Shokokai Inc., is a school that provides specific Japanese educational curricula, located in the downtown area of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was established by the Toronto Shokokai Inc. Japanese expatriates in the Netherlands

Middle and high school classes are held at Novi High School.

Hoshū jugyō kō Weekend schools for Japanese persons outside of Japan

Hoshū jugyō kō (補習授業校), or hoshūkō (補習校) are supplementary Japanese schools located in foreign countries for students living abroad with their families. Hoshū jugyō kō educate Japanese-born children who attend local day schools. They generally operate on weekends, after school, and other times not during the hours of operation of the day schools.

The Japanese Weekend School of New York is a Japanese supplementary school in the New York City metropolitan area. It has its offices in New Roc City in New Rochelle, New York. The Japanese Educational Institute of New York manages the school system, and the JWSNY is one of its two weekend school systems. The JEI also operates two Japanese day schools in the New York area.

Colegio Japonés Auxiliar de Quito is a supplementary Japanese school located in the Pusuquí area of Quito, Ecuador.

Canberra Japanese Supplementary School Inc. is a Japanese supplementary school serving Japanese residents of Canberra, Australia. It holds its classes at Alfred Deakin High School in Deakin, while it has its school office in Yarralumla. It was established on 1 August 1988.
