Andrea McDonnell (born 7 July 1960) is an Australian Paralympic table tennis player. She competed for Australia at the 2016 Rio Paralympics. [1]
McDonnell was born on 7 July 1960. [2] She grew up in Townsville, Queensland and is one of six children. [2] A workplace accident left her with impaired movement in her left leg and right arm. [2] In 2016, she lives in Ayr, Queensland and works as a financial planner. [2]
She is a Class 10 table tennis player. [3] McDonnell grew up in a table tennis family with both her parents playing. [2] She was a national junior player. [2] She took up table tennis again after her accident. She made her debut for Australia at the 2013 Oceania Para Table Tennis Championships in Canberra. [2] At the 2015 Oceania Para Table Tennis Championships in Bendigo, she was defeated by Melissa Tapper in the Class 6–10 final. [4]
At the 2016 Rio Paralympics, McDonnell did not win a match in the Women's Singles Class 10 preliminaries and did not advance. In the Women's Doubles Class 6–10, McDonnell and her partner Melissa Tapper finished fourth. [5]
She has coached her two of her nieces at junior national level. [2]
Daniela "Danni" Di Toro is an Australian wheelchair tennis and table tennis player. Di Toro was the 2010 French Open doubles champion and has also been the Masters double champion. In singles, Di Toro is the former world number one and two time masters finalist. In 2015, she moved to para-table tennis and represented Australia at the 2016 Rio Paralympics, where she was team captain with Kurt Fearnley. At the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, her sixth Paralympics, she was the team captain and Opening Ceremony flag bearer with Ryley Batt.
Claire McLean is an Australian Paralympic cyclist and paratriathlete. She represented Australia at the 2016 Rio Paralympics when paratriathlon made its debut at the Paralympics.
Melissa Tapper is an Australian table tennis player. After competing at the 2012 Summer Paralympics, she represented Australia at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in elite non-Paralympic competition. In March 2016, she became the first Australian athlete to qualify for both the Summer Olympics and Summer Paralympics.
