Sean Russo (born 5 April 1991) is an Australian swimmer. He represented Australia at the 2012 London and 2016 Rio Paralympics. [1]
Russo was born on 5 April 1991 and has retinitis pigmentosa. [2] As a child, he also had asthma. [2] He resides in Revesby, New South Wales. [3] In 2017, he is currently[ when? ] completing a Certificate III and Certificate IV of Dental Assisting.
Russo is an S13 classified swimmer. [2] [4] [5] He started competing in swimming in 1995 as a result of asthma. [2] He made his national team debut in 2010 at the IPC Swimming World Championships, competing in the 100m backstroke where he earned a bronze medal. At the event, he also set Australian records in the 100m freestyle and 100m butterfly events. [2]
He was a member of the Australian team competing at the Dutch hosted 2011 IPC World Swimming Championships. [6] Finishing with a personal best time of 1:02.52 in the men's 100m backstroke, he earned a silver medal. [4]
At the 2012 Australian national championships, he finished first in the men's 50m backstroke multi-disability event. [3] He was selected to represent Australia at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in swimming [5] [7] in seven events: the Men's 100 m Backstroke S13, 100 m Breaststroke SB13, 100 m Butterfly S13, 100 m Freestyle S13, 200 m Individual Medley SM13, 400 m Freestyle S13 and 50 m Freestyle S13. [8] He set an Oceania Record in the 100 m Backstroke S13. [9]
At the 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, he won a bronze medal in Men's 100 m Backstroke S13. [10] He finished fifth in the Men's 100m Breaststroke SB13, seventh in the Men's 200m Individual Medley SM13 and ninth in the Men's 400m Freestyle S13. [11]
In 2015, he is a New South Institute of Sport scholarship holder. [12]
Russo competed at the 2016 Rio Paralympics and competed in six events. He placed seventh in Men's 100m Breaststroke SB13, fifth in the Men's 100m Backstroke S13 and sixth in Men's 200m Individual Medley SM13. He also competed in Men's 50m Freestyle S13, Men's 100m Freestyle S13 and Men's 100m Butterfly S13 but didn't progress to the finals. [13]
Matthew John Cowdrey is an Australian politician and Paralympic swimmer. He presently holds numerous world records. He has a congenital amputation of his left arm; it stops just below the elbow. Cowdrey competed at the 2004 Paralympic Games, 2006 Commonwealth Games, 2008 Paralympic Games, 2010 Commonwealth Games, and the 2012 Paralympic Games. After the 2012 London Games, he is the most successful Australian Paralympian, having won thirteen Paralympic gold medals and twenty three Paralympic medals in total. On 10 February 2015, Cowdrey announced his retirement from swimming.
Jessica Tatiana Long is a Russian-American Paralympic swimmer from Baltimore, Maryland, who competes in the S8, SB7 and SM8 category events. She has held many world records and competed at five Paralympic Games, winning 29 medals. She has also won over 50 world championship medals.
Dame Sophie Frances Pascoe is a New Zealand para-swimmer. She has represented New Zealand at four Summer Paralympic Games from 2008, winning a total of eleven gold medals, seven silver medals and one bronze medal, making her New Zealand's most successful Paralympian. She has also represented New Zealand at the Commonwealth Games.
Blake Cochrane, is a retired Australian Paralympic swimmer. He won a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics, two gold medals at the 2012 London Paralympics, a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Paralympics, and a silver and one bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.
Rick Pendleton, OAM is an Australian Paralympic swimmer from Sydney. He represented Australia at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Paralympics, his fourth Games.

S13, SB13, SM13 are disability swimming classifications used for categorising swimmers based on their level of disability. Jane Buckley, writing for the Sporting Wheelies, describes the swimmers in this classification as having: "Swimmers who are the most sighted but are considered to be blind according to the IBSA B3."

Grant Patterson is an Australian Paralympic swimmer. At the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, his second games, he won a silver and bronze medal.
Daniel Fox is an Australian Paralympic swimmer. He won a silver medal at the 2012 Summer Paralympics and gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. He represented Australia at the 2016 Rio Paralympics being awarded a bronze most recently in the 200m Freestyle S14. He has won gold at the Global Games, the Arafura Games, World Championships, Can-Am Championships, Para Pan Pacific Championships, EnergyAustralia Championships and the Commonwealth Games. Daniel also holds the world record for the 50m freestyle (24.77) and the 100m freestyle record (53.50) in the S14 classification. Daniel Fox is also the Australian ambassador for the INAS Global Games in 2019.
