Angry Birds Toons is a Finnish short-form animated television series based on Rovio's Angry Birds . This animated series follows the adventures of the young birds as they guard their eggs against the piggies who want to steal them for their king to eat, as well as adventures from within each group, with episodes having been released weekly.

Production

Rovio announced a TV series based on the Angry Birds video game series with 52 short episodes. The series was produced by the Finnish animation studio Kombo, which Rovio bought in June 2011. "I am happy to say we are going to roll out a weekly animation series this year of short format content," said Nick Dorra, head of the animation at Rovio. [14] The series was made available worldwide on Angry Birds apps, selected video-on-demand services, and selected smart TVs.[ citation needed ]

Home media

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (who coincidentally later released The Angry Birds Movie through Columbia Pictures) is the DVD/Blu-ray distributor for the series. While the first season got a Blu-Ray release, later releases starting with season two were only available on DVD.

Specials

On 21 October 2011, before the series started, Rovio made a Halloween special as the trailer for the Angry Birds Seasons episode of Ham'o'ween, and as the backstory of how the bird Bubbles joined the flock of birds; [21] later in the same year, Nickelodeon showed Angry Birds: Wreck the Halls, a Christmas special that aired on 17 December 2011, [22] [23] and which was included as a bonus feature on the Season 1, Volume 1 DVD; on 20 January of the next year, Nickelodeon showed Angry Birds: Year of the Dragon, a special celebrating the Chinese Year Of The Dragon, and the Angry Birds Seasons episode of the same name; [24] and Angry Birds Space , an animated prequel to the video game of the same name in March 2012. Book adaptation

On January 1, 2016, Rovio and Kaiken Entertainment Ltd (Now Ferly Ltd) published a series of 4 books written by Les Spink called 'Angry Birds Toons Tales. [27] The books contained more in-depth written versions of the first twelve episodes of the series, although the visuals shown in the books are the same as the visuals which appear in the animated versions of the episodes. Spin-offs

Piggy Tales

On 11 April 2014, Rovio released a series titled Piggy Tales on their multi-platform broadcasting channel, Toons.TV, with the first episode called "Trampoline". [29] The series show the minion pigs' life, with other exclusive characters to appear in various episodes, but no other pigs or birds were featured.

The first two seasons used claymation-style CGI to depict the pigs as they appeared in most Angry Birds games, with the latter two seasons shifting to complete computer-generated imagery and focusing on the pigs as they appeared as in The Angry Birds Movie .

Angry Birds Stella

Based on the puzzle video game spin-off of the same name, the series is based around Stella, the pink bird, along with her friends Luca, Willow, Poppy, and Dahlia as they work their way against Gale, the former friend of Stella, that currently is the queen of the pigs in Golden Island. [30]

Angry Birds Blues

Another spin-off series, titled Angry Birds Blues. The series shows The Blues' life, along with the Hatchlings, and is set between the events of The Angry Birds Movie and its sequel. [31] It premiered on 10 March 2017 on Toons.TV. [32]

Angry Birds BirLd Cup

In the summer of 2018, on the eve of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Rovio announced a new series, titled Angry Birds BirLd Cup, which leverages a partnership with the UK soccer/association football team Everton FC, in which Premier League stars hold a special contest between two teams of children, representing Red and Chuck. The teams compete in special challenges to win the titular "Birld Cup", with the pigs keeping score. [33]

Angry Birds on the Run

In the fall of 2018, Rovio announced a new series, titled Angry Birds on the Run, which leverages a partnership with Blink Industries, to create the first live-action Angry Birds series. The series shows that Red, Chuck, and Bomb fall out of a girl's phone, and they try to find the kid to get home before Rovio replaces them. The show was released on 17 November 2018 on YouTube. In the spring of 2020, Rovio Entertainment announced the second season of the series with the first episode released on 13 June 2020. [34]

Angry Birds was a 2009 physics-based casual puzzle video game developed by Finnish video game developer Rovio Entertainment. Inspired primarily by a sketch of stylized wingless birds, the game was first released for iOS and Maemo devices starting in December 2009. By October 2010, 12 million copies of the game had been purchased from the iOS App Store and Ovi, which prompted the developer to design versions for other touchscreen-based smartphones, most notably Android, Symbian, Windows Phone, and BlackBerry 10 devices. <i>Angry Birds Rio</i> 2011 video game

Angry Birds Rio was a 2011 puzzle video game developed and published by Rovio Entertainment. It is the third installment in the Angry Birds series. The game was released on March 22, 2011 and promoted as a marketing tie-in with the 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios co-produced animated film Rio. While utilizing the same basic gameplay as Angry Birds, Angry Birds Rio added a number of new elements, most notably the first use of boss levels. Angry Birds Rio was discontinued on February 3, 2020 along with Angry Birds Star Wars, and Angry Birds Star Wars II, with the games also being pulled out of the app stores.

Angry Birds Seasons is the second puzzle video game in the Angry Birds series, developed by Rovio Entertainment. Based on Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons was released for devices using Apple's iOS in October 2010 and then it was released on other platforms starting in December 2010. There have been no new releases since the release of Ragnahog on December 1, 2016.

<i>Bad Piggies</i> Puzzle video game developed by Rovio Entertainment

Bad Piggies is a puzzle video game developed by Rovio Entertainment, and was the company's first spin-off of Angry Birds. The game launched on Android, iOS, Windows, and Mac on September 27, 2012. It was released for BlackBerry 10 in October 2013 and for Windows Phone in April 2014. Unlike the Angry Birds games, the player assists the pigs in building contraptions that travel on land and in air to collect pieces of a map to ultimately capture and take away the Angry Birds' eggs. As of October 2012, Bad Piggies was the fastest-selling game on the Apple App Store, and the quickest one to reach the top of the app list in just three hours.

The Angry Birds Movie is a 2016 animated comedy film based on Rovio Entertainment's video game series of the same name, produced by Columbia Pictures and Rovio Animation, and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing. The film was directed by Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly from a screenplay written by Jon Vitti and a story by Mikael Hed, Mikko Pöllä, and co-producer John Cohen. Angry Birds Transformers is a run and gun video game. The tenth installment in the Angry Birds series, the game is a crossover between Angry Birds and the Transformers franchise, featuring battles between the Autobirds and Deceptihogs, Angry Birds' versions of the Autobots and Decepticons. It is published by Rovio Entertainment with collaboration from Hasbro. The game was released on October 15, 2014, for iOS, and was released for Android on October 30, 2014. The Angry Birds Movie 2 is a 2019 animated comedy film based on Rovio Entertainment's Angry Birds video game series, produced by Columbia Pictures, Sony Pictures Animation, and Rovio Animation, and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing. The sequel to The Angry Birds Movie (2016), the film was directed by Thurop Van Orman and co-directed by John Rice from a screenplay by Peter Ackerman, Eyal Podell and Jonathon E. Stewart. It is an international co-production between the Finland and the United States. Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph, Tony Hale, Anthony Padilla, Bill Hader, and Peter Dinklage reprise their voice roles from the first film, with newcomers Leslie Jones, Rachel Bloom, Awkwafina, Sterling K. <i>Angry Birds Blues</i> Finnish animated television series

Angry Birds Blues is a Finnish animated television series featuring the Blues and the Hatchlings that appeared in The Angry Birds Movie. Animated in the same style as the film, it was produced by Rovio Entertainment along with its affiliated company Kaiken Entertainment, with Bardel Entertainment providing its animation. The series premiered on 10 March 2017 on the Toons.TV channel, before continuing on the Angry Birds' official YouTube channel after Toons.TV was shut down.
