Anthony Lamont Banks was born in Oakland, California on May 16, 1972. In band lessons at school, he learned to play classical music on a variety of instruments, while teaching himself how to play funk at home on his digital keyboard from bands like Parliament, Funkadelic, and The Gap Band.[ citation needed ]
Banks went on to produce mixtapes with his friend, Oakland rapper MC Ant, and sell them out of the trunk of their car at their high school. The tapes quickly gained popularity for the duo.
In 1987, Banks, MC Ant, and other friends recorded MC Ant's debut album The Great, released through Raw Dog Records in 1989. Banks also recorded California rapper Spice 1's debut album Let It Be Known, released in 1991 through Triad Records. This production debut, combined with releases from Pooh-Man and Dangerous Dame sold over 100,000 units without record label or promotion, launching Banks into a prominent figure in the early 1990s Bay Area hip hop scene. He went on to produce songs for Too Short, [4] E-40, Snoop Dogg, and 3X Krazy. In 1993, he engaged in a beef with Oakland rapper Pooh-Man.[ citation needed ]
In 1994, Banks released The Big Badass , an album inspired by his nickname. In 1996, he appeared on America Is Dying Slowly , a compilation CD focused on raising awareness of the AIDS epidemic among African-American men released by the Red Hot Organization, also featuring Biz Markie, Wu-Tang Clan, and Fat Joe.[ citation needed ]
In 1999, Banks started the group T.W.D.Y. ("The Whole Damn Yay"), with Rappin' 4-Tay and Captain Save'm, releasing their debut album Derty Werk , containing the single "Player's Holiday", featuring Too Short, Mac Mall, and Otis & Shug. The album also marked the end of Banks' beef with Pooh-Man with the two appearing together on the track "Ride Wit' Me". In 2000, T.W.D.Y released their second and final album, Lead the Way , before Rappin' 4-Tay left the group and was replaced by Dolla Will.[ citation needed ]
His talent for producing basslines is well-known and has achieved cross-over appreciation in the techno genre. The album liner for Daft Punk's album Homework gives a note of appreciation to Ant Banks for inspiration.[ citation needed ]
West Coast hip hop is a regional genre of hip hop music that encompasses any artists or music that originated in the West Coast of the United States. West Coast hip hop began to dominate from a radio play and sales standpoint during the early to-mid 1990s with the birth of G-funk and the emergence of record labels such as Suge Knight and Dr. Dre's Death Row Records, Ice Cube's Lench Mob Records, the continued success of Eazy-E's Ruthless Records, Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment, and others.

Todd Anthony Shaw, better known by his stage name Too Short, is an American rapper. A pioneer of West Coast hip hop, Shaw was among the first acts to receive recognition in the genre during the late 1980s. His lyrics were often based on pimping and promiscuity, but also drug culture and street survival; exemplified respectively in his most popular singles "Blow the Whistle" and "The Ghetto." He is one of few acts to have worked with both Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G. during the height of their respective careers.

Production was handled entirely by member Ant Banks, who also served as executive producer. It features guest appearances from Otis & Shug, Gripsta, Playa Metro, Too $hort, Agerman, B-Legit, CJ Mac, Dolla Will, J-Dubb, Keak da Sneak, Mac Mall, Mac Shawn, MC Ant, Pooh-Man and Spice 1.
"Rapper's Ball" is a song by American rap artist E-40, featuring rapper Too $hort and Jodeci lead singer Cedric "K-Ci" Hailey. It is a single from the lead rapper's 1996 album Tha Hall of Game and is a B-side for E-40's song "Things'll Never Change", featuring The Dove Shack rapper Bo-Rock. The song peaked at #29 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart along with "Things'll Never Change", becoming E-40's most successful song as a lead artist until "U and Dat" featuring T-Pain and Kandi Girl peaked at #13 on the Hot 100 in 2006. This song is considered a classic by most west coast rap fans, especially in E-40's hometown Vallejo which is in the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area. This song is also notable for featuring a diss to Brooklyn rapper The Notorious B.I.G. in which E-40 says, "Don't buy an $85,000 car before you buy a house", making reference to Biggie owning expensive cars but still not having purchased his own home. In the video, Tupac Shakur, who makes a cameo appearance, winks at the camera when this line is said. This song is also one of Too Short's successful songs amongst many Platinum Albums Too Short has recorded with other Bay Area HipHop Rap Legend. Later several Top Artists around the Bay would collaborate on the album Derty Werk by T.W.D.Y. a west coast supergroup formed by Ant Banks and released in 1999. The music video also features another Rap artist from the Bay Area most known for his Raw Gangsta Rap lyrics, Ice-T arriving with Too Short & playing pool with Tupac, albeit doesn't perform.
Nuthin' but a Gangsta Party 2 is a compilation album released by Priority Records on July 3, 2001. Like its predecessor, It contains mostly previously released songs along with a few exclusive, previously unreleased songs. The album peaked at #85 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Got Ta Hustle, Make It Happen, and 4 Days In Cali are all previously unreleased and are exclusive to this album. The song Got Ta Hustle was released as a 12-inch single
