Thoracica Infraclass of barnacles

Thoracica is an infraclass of crustaceans which contains the most familiar species of barnacles found on rocky coasts, such as Semibalanus balanoides and Chthamalus stellatus. They have six well-developed limbs, and may be either stalked or sessile. The carapace is heavily calcified. The group includes free-living and commensal species.

Xenia (coral) Genus of corals

Xenia is a genus of photosynthetic soft marine coral in the family Xeniidae. They resemble a mushroom, with "arms" coming out from the top that end in many-fingered "hands". It is unique among corals because of its ability to use its "hands" to "pulse" or push water away from the colony in a constant, grabbing motion. Common names include fast-pulse Xenia. Species of Xenia are sometimes referred to as pulse corals.

Balanomorpha Suborder of barnacles

The Balanomorpha are an order of barnacles, containing familiar acorn barnacles of the seashore. The order contains these families:

Xeniidae Family of corals

Xeniidae is a family of soft coral in the order Alcyonacea.

Nephtheidae Family of corals

Nephtheidae is a family of soft corals in the phylum Cnidaria. Members of this family are known as carnation corals, tree corals or colt soft corals. They are very attractive and show a wide range of rich and pastel colours including reds, pinks, yellows and purples. They are popular with reef aquarium hobbyists.

Stilifer Genus of gastropods

Stilifer is a genus of small ectoparasitic sea snails that used to belong in the family Stiliferidae. Most recent sources consider it part of the family Eulimidae, which also belongs to the superfamily Eulimoidea.

Calanticidae Family of barnacles

Calanticidae is a family of acorn barnacles in the order Calanticomorpha. There are about 12 genera and more than 60 described species in Calanticidae.

Stilifer utinomi is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Eulimidae. The species is one of a number within the genus Stilifer.

Chthamaloidea Superfamily of barnacles

The Chthamaloidea are a subdivision of Balanomorpha proposed by Newman and Ross to include barnacles with shell wall composed of rostrum, carina, and one to three pairs of latera, rarely supplemented with one or more whorls of basal imbricating plates. The rostrolatus enters the sheath, but rarely fuses with the rostrum, as in the three higher superfamilies. Shell plates are simple in construction, solid, and incorporate organic chitin between carbonate layers. Opercular plates are deeply interlocked, and in some genera, may become concrescent with age. Soft part morphology includes concave labrum without notch in the central part. Cirrus III more resembles Cirrus IV than II, or may be intermediate in structure. Caudal appendages present in some species.

The Catophragmidae are a family of barnacles in the superfamily Chthamaloidea with eight shell wall plates, surrounded by several whorls of imbricating plates. The basis is membranous.

Clavulariidae Family of corals

Clavulariidae is a family of soft corals in the suborder Stolonifera. Colonies in this family consist of separate retractable polyps growing from a horizontal, encrusting stolon or basal membrane. The tissues are stiffened by sclerites.

Klyxum Genus of corals

Klyxum is a genus of animals in the family Alcyoniidae. They are commonly called cauliflower colt coral, or simply colt coral. These common names can also refer to the related genus Cladiella.

Paralcyoniidae Family of corals

Paralcyoniidae is a family of soft corals in the phylum Cnidaria.

Paralepas Genus of barnacles

Paralepas is a genus of goose barnacles in the family Heteralepadidae.

Anthelia (coral) Genus of corals

Anthelia is a genus of soft corals in the family Xeniidae.

Sansibia is a genus of soft corals in the family Xeniidae.

Parasphaerasclera is a genus of soft coral. It is the only genus in the monotypic family Parasphaerascleridae.

Lithoglyptidae is a family of barnacles in the order Lithoglyptida. There are about 7 genera and more than 40 described species in Lithoglyptidae.

Lithoglyptida is an order of barnacles in the class Thecostraca. There are 2 families and more than 40 described species in Lithoglyptida.

Calanticomorpha

Calanticomorpha is an order of acorn barnacles in the class Thecostraca. There are 3 families and more than 90 described species in Calanticomorpha.
