The Austrian broadcaster Österreichischer Rundfunk (ORF) organised an internal selection in order to select the Austrian entry for the 2017 contest in Kyiv, Ukraine. Nathan Trent was announced as the Austrian representative on 19 December 2016, while the song, "Running on Air", was presented to the public on 28 February 2017.
