B. Suneel Bhanu is President Emeritus of the Protestant Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church Society who served a term from 2009 through 2013. At present, Suneel Bhanu teaches at the Gurukul Lutheran Theological College, Chennai.

In 2015, Suneel Bhanu was elected as the Chairperson [1] of Church's Auxiliary for Social Action for the quadrennium 2015-2018.

Studies and Academics

B. Suneel Bhanu studied at the Protestant Andhra Christian Theological College, Hyderabad during the period of the Old Testament Scholars, Victor Premasagar and G. Babu Rao. Later, Bhanu undertook postgraduate studies at the South East Asia Graduate School of Theology [2] from where he was awarded a postgraduate degree of Master of Theology (M.Th.). Suneel Bhanu served as a Pastor of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Visakhapatnam. [3]

Suneel Bhanu taught at the Bishop's College, Kolkata before moving to Gurukul Lutheran Theological College, Chennai where he is currently teaching Theology. [4] Suneel Bhanu is a member [5] of the Academic Council of the nation's first University, the Senate of Serampore College (University) in West Bengal.

Contribution

Suneel Bhanu's major contribution was seeing through the publication of the Bibliography of Original Christian Writings in India in Telugu compiled by Ravela Joseph for which Bhanu provided his assistance that ultimately resulted in its publication by the Board of Theological Education of the Senate of Serampore College in 1993 under the aegis of the General Editors, Hunter P. Mabry, H. S. Wilson and Zaihmingthanga. [6]

The compilation by Suneel Bhanu together with Ravela Joseph has been a source referred for original Christian writings in Telugu. [7]

In addition, Suneel Bhanu has also co-translated [8] Robin Boyd's Introduction to Indian Christian Theology along with Victor Premasagar and B. J. Christie Kumar, his Professors at the Andhra Christian Theological College.

In 2011, Suneel Bhanu delivered [11] the annual Hein Fry Lecture at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia.

In 2013, Suneel Bhanu participated [12] in the Salvation Army's meetings in Nellore in the presence of D. M. Prakasam of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Nellore which awarded N. L. Victor, the Order of the Founder by Linda Goodman.

Suneel Bhanu was also a member of the Henry Martyn Institute for Interfaith Reconciliation at Hyderabad. [13]

Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church (AELC) was constituted in the year 1927 in Andhra Pradesh, India. It is the Indian successor to the United Lutheran Church in America which was started as a self-supporting, self-governing, and self-propagating church among Telugu Christians.

M. Victor Paul was a biblical scholar who served as President of the Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church from 1993 to 1997.

K. Devasahayam was President of the Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church from 1965 to 1969.

B. E. Devaraj was a translator who pioneered the Lambadi version of the New Testament. He was Acting Commissary and Vicar General of the Archdeaconry of Nandyal from 1950 to 1951.

E. Prakasam, a Lutheran, was the first Indian President of the Protestant Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church Society whose ministry was primarily based in the Guntur District and also in East Godavari District, West Godavari District, Krishna District, and Visakhapatnam District. Being one of the established Indian Pastors, Prakasam was elected as president and served from 1944 to 1950 after which he resumed his Pastoral duties as a Lutheran Pastor.

G. Devasahayam was the Indian President of the Protestant Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church Society and served during the periods 1956–1960 and again from 1963–1964. During his second stint as President of the AELC, Devasahayam participated in the opening of the newly formed Andhra Christian Theological College then located in the same campus of the Lutheran Theological College in Rajahmundry.

K. Krupadanam was the Indian President of the Protestant Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church Society and served for a short period from 1961 to 1962. His tenure was embroiled in a legal wrangle but ultimately the AELC Church Society won the case.

Samuel William Schmitthenner was a Lutheran who served as the President of the Protestant Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church Society in Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh, India from 1969 to 1981.

K. Frederick Paradesi Babu is the current President of the Protestant Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church Society. He had his ministerial formation at the Andhra Christian Theological College, Hyderabad, a Seminary affiliated to the nation's first university, the Senate of Serampore College (University).

N. Ch. Joseph was the President of the Protestant Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church Society.

Ch. Victor Moses is President Emeritus of the Protestant Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church Society headquartered in Guntur. Victor Moses is an Old Testament Scholar and a member of the Society for Biblical Studies, India, an august body of learning having members well versed in Hebrew and Greek languages hailing from the Protestant, Catholic, Orthodox and Pentecostal traditions.

Ravela Joseph was a Sapphire jubilee-Priest involved in Spiritual formation from the mid-1960s into the early 2000s in the Telugu states. He taught Systematic theology in Major Seminaries affiliated to the Senate of Serampore College (University), the nation's first modern University {a University under Section 2 (f) of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956} with degree-granting authority validated by a Danish Charter and ratified by the Government of West Bengal.

P. Solomon Raj(21 February 1921 - 28 December 2019) was a pastor of Protestant Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church Society headquartered in Guntur with major contribution to theological research and arts. Old Testament scholar Victor Premasagar wrote about Raj as a pastor, professor of communications, creative artist, sculptor, poet and a theological writer.

Rayi Ratna Sundara Rao was a prolific writer, theologian and comparative religion scholar who once was the principal of the Gurukul Lutheran Theological College, Chennai, affiliated to India's first university, the Senate of Serampore College (University).

H. S. Wilson(born 1946) is Executive Director of Foundation for Theological Education in the Southeast Asia based in Philadelphia. Wilson is widely known in India for his contribution to theological education in India as Director of Research and Church Relations at the Board of Theological Education of the Senate of Serampore College, Bangalore, the theological arm of the Senate of Serampore College (University), the nation's first University

G. Solomon was an Old Testament Scholar and a Baptist Patriarch hailing from the Protestant Samavesam of Telugu Baptist Churches Society (an affiliate member of the Baptist World Alliance and the National Council of Churches in India) and led it as its President during the years 1978-1982 overseeing the spiritual affairs of the Church Society whose ecclesiastical jurisdiction comprises the three states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana with 873 Churches comprising nearly a million members per present statistics.

Bishop Bunyan Joseph was the first and only elected Bishop - in - Anantapur-Kurnool Diocese who was consecrated on 27 September 1947 and was among the 15 inaugural Bishops when the Church of South India was inaugurated at the CSI-St. George's Cathedral, Chennai. He was presented for consecration by The Venerable F. F. Gladstone and Canon T. Sithers. to the Presiding Bishop Cherakarottu Korula Jacob, who as the first Moderator, consecrated Bunyan Joseph.
