The BMW C evolution is an electric scooter produced by BMW Motorrad.
The first stage of development was the BMW E-Scooter concept vehicle in 2011. [1] A little later, the corresponding design study BMW Concept e was created as the second stage. [2]
As the third stage of development, the C evolution was a largely near-series prototype, [3] of which a small series was first produced in 2012. BMW made five of these prototypes available to the press during the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. [4]
In September 2013, BMW announced series production for spring 2014. [5] In April 2014, production began with ten scooters a day. [6]
At the 2016 Paris Motor Show, BMW presented the C Evolution Long Range, a version of the scooter with new battery cells with 94 Ah instead of the previous 60. This increased the specified range to up to 160 km. In addition, the continuous output of the motor was increased to 19 kW. [7] In July 2021, BMW presented a successor model, the BMW CE 04, [8] with some versions modified for police use. [9]
The C evolution shares the technology of the battery with the BMW i3. [10] The batteries are exclusively air-cooled.
The almost noiseless scooter has four driving modes: "Road", "Dynamic", "Sail" and "Eco Pro". In "Eco Pro" mode, the acceleration is noticeably reduced, [11] but the range increases to approx. 120 km. In "Road" mode, full acceleration and 50% of maximum regenerative braking are available, in "Dynamic" full acceleration and maximum recuperation and in "Sail" full acceleration and no recuperation. The scooter then rolls out without the engine brake.
A vehicle start-stop system or stop-start system automatically shuts down and restarts the internal combustion engine to reduce the amount of time the engine spends idling, thereby reducing fuel consumption and emissions. This is most advantageous for vehicles which spend significant amounts of time waiting at traffic lights or frequently come to a stop in traffic jams. Start-stop technology may become more common with more stringent government fuel economy and emissions regulations. This feature is present in hybrid electric vehicles, but has also appeared in vehicles which lack a hybrid electric powertrain. For non-electric vehicles fuel economy gains from this technology are typically in the range of 3–10%, potentially as high as 12%. In the United States, idling wastes approximately 14.8 billion liters of gasoline per year.
BMW's motorcycle history began in 1921 when the company commenced manufacturing engines for other companies. BMW's own motorcycles—sold under the BMW Motorrad brand—began in 1923 with the BMW R 32, which was powered by a flat-twin engine. Production of motorcycles with flat-twin engines continues to this day, however BMW has also produced many models with other types of engines.
The BMW C1 is an enclosed scooter made by Bertone for BMW. Compared to a conventional scooter, the C1 offered extra safety features and protection from the elements. The rider would sit in a car-type seat and adopt a feet-forward posture. Introduced in 2000, it was available throughout Europe, but sales were disappointing and the C1 was discontinued in 2002. In 2009 the C1-E electric version was presented as a concept.
The BMW R1200RT is a touring or sport touring motorcycle that was manufactured from 2005 to 2019 by BMW Motorrad to replace the R1150RT model. It features a 1,170 cc (71 cu in) flat-twin engine with a six-speed gearbox and shaft drive.
Hybrid vehicle drivetrains transmit power to the driving wheels for hybrid vehicles. A hybrid vehicle has multiple forms of motive power.
The BMW R1200GS and R1200GS Adventure are motorcycles manufactured in Berlin, Germany by BMW Motorrad, part of the BMW group. It is one of the BMW GS family of dual sport motorcycles. Both motorcycles have a 1,170 cc (71 cu in), two-cylinder boxer engine with four valves per cylinder. The Adventure has a large-capacity fuel tank and long travel suspension. As of 2012, BMW's R1200GS bikes are their top-selling models.
Electric motorcycles and scooters are plug-in electric vehicles with two or three wheels. Power is supplied by a rechargeable battery which drives one or more electric motors. Electric scooters are distinguished from motorcycles by having a step-through frame, instead of being straddled. Electric bicycles are similar vehicles, distinguished by retaining the ability to be propelled by the rider pedalling in addition to battery propulsion.

All three variants are powered by a 670 cc engine derived from the unit used in the Honda Fit automobile. The Integra will be available with two different power outputs, one version develops a peak power output of 38.1 kW (51.1 hp) at 6,250 rpm and 62 N⋅m (46 lb⋅ft) of torque at 4,750 rpm, while the other has a lower output of 35 kW (47 hp) and 60 N⋅m (44 lb⋅ft) to meet 2013 A2 European licensing regulations.
