Competition format

Six teams were drawn into groups of two. The top two performing teams in each group advance to the knockout stage. Each tie consists of five matches, one for each discipline (men's / women's singles, men's / women's / mixed doubles). In the knockout stage, the winner of each group will face the runner-up of the opposite group.

The mixed team badminton event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games was held from 29 July to 2 August at the National Exhibition Centre in Solihull.

The 2024 All Africa Men's and Women's Team Badminton Championships was a continental stage tournament to crown the best men's and women's badminton team in Africa. The tournament also served as the African qualifiers for the 2024 Thomas & Uber Cup to be held in Chengdu, China. This tournament was held in Cairo, Egypt between 12 and 15 February 2024.

The mixed team badminton event at the 2011 All-Africa Games was held from 6 to 8 September at the Escola Josina Machel Hall in Maputo. 13 teams competed in this event. Egypt withdrew from the competition and only participated in the individual events.

The mixed team badminton event at the 2015 African Games was held from 2 to 5 September at the Gymnase Étienne Mongha in Brazzaville.

The mixed team badminton event at the 2019 African Games was held from 22 to 25 August at the Ain Chock Indoor Sports Center in Casablanca.
