The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is the top tier of the country’s football leagues. It is run directly by the Professional Football League Committee of Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF). The Dhaka Derby is one of the most popular matches in the league. [1]

Bangladesh Football Federation sports governing body

Bangladesh Football Federation or BFF is the governing body of football in Bangladesh. The organisation which manages the game of association football in Bangladesh. It administers the running of Bangladesh national football team and Bangladesh women's national football team including oversees all aspects of the country's football.

Dhaka Derby

The Dhaka Derby is a football rivalry between Abahani and Mohammedan, although the rivalry was bigger in the past.

History

Founded in 2007, the league was previously known as the B League. The league was renamed to Bangladesh League in 2009. Then in 2012, it was renamed to Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

The start of BPL marked the start of professional league and a wide open national league.

Dhaka Derby

Two most old and famous clubs in the history of Bangladesh football are Dhaka Abahani and Dhaka Mohammedan SC. The match between these rivals is called the Dhaka Derby. The Dhaka Derby is played in Bangabandhu National Stadium.

Mohammedan Sporting Club (Dhaka) association football club

Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited (MSC), not to be confused with Mohammedan S.C. in Kolkata, is a top sporting club in Bangladesh. Mohammedan Limited is headquartered in Dhaka, with local branches throughout the country. Their record attendance for a football game is 44,000. They won the second edition of the Bangladesh national top-flight league.

Bangabandhu National Stadium stadium and a multipurpose sports arena in Dhaka, Bangladesh

Bangabandhu National Stadium, also known as Dhaka Stadium, and formerly known as Dacca Stadium, is the national stadium and a multipurpose sports arena in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is located in the Motijheel area in the heart of the city. The stadium has been renovated several times, most recently for the opening ceremony of the 2011 Cricket World Cup. It had a capacity close to 55,000 before the most recent renovation, but with a new capacity of 36,000 it is still the largest stadium in Bangladesh.

Mohammad Aslam, popularly known as Aslam, is a former Bangladeshi footballer. He played as a specialist striker and was one of the most lethal marksmen in the Dhaka domestic league during the 1980s and 1990s. He gained his greatest fame while playing for Abahani Krira Chakra, one of Dhaka's two major football clubs. He was a linchpin of several league-winning Abahani sides, and was the league's leading scorer several times.

Syed Rumman Bin Wali Sabbir, is a Bangladeshi former footballer. He played for Mohammedan Sporting Club (MSC) in the Dhaka domestic league during the 1980s and 1990s. He made several appearances for the Bangladesh national football team, appearning in the 1990 FIFA World Cup qualifying rounds.

Bangladesh Federation Cup Football competition in Bangladesh

Federation Cup, previously called in full Bangladesh Federation Cup, is Bangladesh's premier knockout competition in men's association football. The competition started in 1980 and is run by the Bangladesh Football Federation which is responsible for all types of competitive matches in the country. The teams from the country's premier league and other clubs compete in the tournament while occasionally Indian sides were invited in the past. Most of the matches are played in the country's main football venue Bangabandhu National Stadium. The winner of the tournament earn the slot of playing qualifying round of AFC Cup.

Kazi Md. Salahuddin is a Bangladeshi former football player. He was a member of the Shadhin Bangla Football Team, the team which played across India to raise funds during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. Salahuddin is the first professional football player from the country to play abroad in the professional league in Hong Kong and considered to be one of Bangladesh's most famous football players. He was also a member of Bangladesh national team, retiring in 1983.

Jahid Hasan Ameli is a Bangladeshi international footballer who plays as a striker for Sheikh Russel KC. He is the top scorer of the Bangladesh National Team and has the most caps.

Bangladesh Super Cup

Super Cup is the highest-budgeted football competition organized by the Bangladesh Football Federation and is one of the two club football season cups in Bangladesh, the other being Federation Cup. It started in 2009. The tournament is currently sponsored by Grameenphone.

The 2017–18 Bangladesh Football Premier League is the tenth season of the Bangladesh Premier League since its establishment in 2007. A total of 12 teams are competing in the league. The league started from July 28, 2017.

Bashundhara Kings is a football team from Nilphamari, Bangladesh. They clinched the title of the 2016 Bangladesh Championship League, the second-tier of the professional football league, in their maiden appearance.

The 2018–19 Bangladesh Premier League is the eleventh season of the Bangladesh Premier League since its establishment in 2007. A total of 13 football clubs will compete in the league. Dhaka Abahani are the defending champions. Bashundhara Kings and NoFeL Sporting Club entered as the promoted teams from the 2017 Bangladesh Championship League. The league was delayed and was rescheduled to start from 18 January 2019. Six venues will host 2019 Bangladesh Premier League. 2 clubs will be relegated to Bangladesh Championship League.
