Barbara Seagram (born 1949 in Barbados, West Indies) is a Canadian Registered Nurse and contract bridge writer, teacher, and administrator. She is co-author of thirty-two published bridge books, including co-writing with Marc Smith 25 Bridge Conventions You Should Know , which received the American Bridge Teachers' Association (ABTA) Book of the Year award in 1999. [1] The book is in its 19th printing[ when? ] and has been translated into French, German, Japanese, Portuguese and Danish.[ citation needed ]

Seagram was a member of the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) Board of Governors from 1997 to 2009, has served as president and vice president of ACBL Unit 166 (Southern Ontario), has contributed to the ACBL Bridge Bulletin, [2] and has been annually recognized as one of the top ten recruiters of new ACBL members. [3] She has also served on the Board of Governors of ACBL and Board of Directors for the ABTA. [4]

Seagram and her husband Alex Kornel run the Barbara Seagram School of Bridge in Toronto. [5]

In 2012 the ACBL named Seagram number 40 on the list of 52 most influential bridge personalities during the organization's 75-year history, citing her work (along with Paul Cronin) promoting friendly behavior at the bridge table. [6]

Seagram's books are joint works with one or more co-authors and are published by the bridge specialist Master Point Press of Toronto. [7] [ clarification needed ]

Marc Smith is a British bridge player, columnist and writer. Marc Smith represented Great Britain as a junior, winning the 1985 European Union Junior Teams Championship. His book, co-authored with Barbara Seagram, 25 Bridge Conventions You Should Know, won the American Bridge Teachers' Association 1999 Shirley Silverman Award for Best Student Book.

David Burnstine was a leading tournament contract bridge player of the 1930s. He changed his name to David Bruce after he retired from competition in 1939.

Patty Tucker is an American bridge player and teacher. In the world of competitive bridge, Tucker holds the honor and rank, American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) Grand Life Master. She also teaches duplicate bridge and is an author of 40+ bridge books and workbooks. The ACBL's Board of Directors named Patty the ”2016 Honorary Member of the Year" for her efforts in sustaining the game of bridge for future generations. Patty reflected, “I teach bridge for the immense satisfaction I get, in passing on to others, my knowledge, respect, and love for the game of bridge.”
