Bauer's chameleon gecko (Eurydactylodes agricolae) is a species of lizard in the family Diplodactylinae. The species is endemic to Grande Terre in New Caledonia. [1] [2]
The specific name, agricolae, is in honor of American herpetologist Aaron Matthew Bauer. The German noun, Bauer, means "farmer" in English, which becomes agricola (genitive singular, agricolae) when translated into Latin. [3]
The preferred natural habitats of E. agricolae are forest and shrubland, at altitudes up to 1,000 m (3,300 ft). [1]
E. agricolae may attain a snout-to-vent length (SVL) of 6 cm (2.4 in). [2]
Gekkonidae is the largest family of geckos, containing over 950 described species in 64 genera. Members of the Gekkonidae comprise many of the most widespread gecko species, including house geckos (Hemidactylus), tokay geckos (Gekko), day geckos (Phelsuma), mourning geckos (Lepidodactylus) and dtellas (Gehyra). Gekkonid geckos occur globally and are particularly species-rich in tropical areas.
Eurydactylodes is a small genus of geckos commonly referred to as chameleon geckos from the subfamily Diplodactylidae, endemic to New Caledonia and few adjacent islands. Within the Diplodactylidae, Eurydactylodes resides in the Carphodactylini tribe, and consists of four species. All species share similar morphology as well as lifestyle and habits. The first of the Eurydactylodes species to be classified, E. vieillardi, was discovered in 1869.

The origin of the specimen is unknown; New Zealand and New Caledonia have been suggested. The idea that Hoplodactylus delcourti is the kawekaweau of Maori tradition has been contested.
