Geography

A farming area comprising the village and several hamlets situated by the banks of the river Abloux, some 22 miles (35 km) northwest of Guéret, on the D71 road near its junction with the D70. The commune borders the département of Indre.

The river Abloux has its source in the commune.

It was merged into the new Communauté de communes Monts et Vallées Ouest Creuse in January 2017, but this merger was revoked and the former communautés de communes were recreated on 31 December 2019. Its seat is La Souterraine. Its area is 273.3 km2, and its population was 10,654 in 2018.

The Abloux is a 49.6 km (30.8 mi) long river in the Creuse and Indre departments in central France. Its source is at Bazelat. It flows generally northwest. It is a right tributary of the Anglin, into which it flows at Prissac.
