"Before We Drown" is a song by English electronic music band Depeche Mode, released on 9 February 2024 as the sixth single from their fifteenth studio album, Memento Mori .
On 27 January 2024, two days before its official video's release, "Before We Drown" made its live debut at the O2 Arena in London. [1] The song is one of the few on the album that does not feature Martin Gore as a composer.
On 29 January 2024, an official music video was released for the song directed by Anton Corbijn. [2] [3] Focusing on themes of mortality and salvation, and filmed in black and white, the video shows a gloomy figure in an overcoat who slowly walks into a dangerous sea, and, in the end, the elements consume him. [4] [5] Corbijn also directed videos for "Wagging Tongue" and "Ghosts Again". [6]
Kory Grow of Rolling Stone stated, "'Before We Drown', cowritten by Gahan, drummer Christian Eigner and multi-instrumentalist Peter Gordeno (members of Depeche Mode's touring lineup), builds tension minute after minute, as Gahan sings, 'First we stand up, then we fall down/We have to move forward, before we drown'. Synths effervesce eerily like fireworks around his voice as he sings the final words." [7] A reviewer by WECB commented, "The lyrics of the song, deep and evocative, immerse us in a reflection on distance and the need to move forward, the aesthetics of the video go hand in hand and they make a brilliant combo. The chorus, powerful and resonant, tells us about getting up and moving forward before succumbing to the waves of destiny." [6] Ian Wade of The Quietus wrote, "'Before We Drown', Gahan's co-write with touring Moders Peter Gordeno and Christian Eigner, feels so imbued with Depeche Mode-ness that it's almost an AI interpretation of Depeche Mode." The soundtrack was recorded in Liévin, Stade Couvert Régional, on 29 July 1993.
One Night in Paris – The Exciter Tour 2001 – A Live DVD by Anton Corbijn is a video release by Depeche Mode, featuring an entire concert from their 2001 Exciter Tour, shot at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy on 9 and 10 October 2001. Although the cover only lists the second date, material from the first was used, as "It Doesn't Matter Two" was only played on the 9th. That song was replaced by "Sister of Night" the next day. Many fans were disappointed to see the popular song "Clean" not included, "Condemnation" taking its place in the film. It was directed and filmed by Anton Corbijn, and released on 27 May 2002.

The Delta Machine Tour was a 2013–14 worldwide concert tour by English electronic music band Depeche Mode in support of the group's 13th studio album, Delta Machine, released 22 March 2013. Following a warm-up show in Nice, France on 4 May 2013, the tour kicked off in Tel Aviv, Israel, and continued through Europe until late July. A North American tour followed in late August, beginning in the Detroit suburb of Clarkston, Michigan and culminating in Austin, Texas in early October. The band performed at the Austin City Limits Music Festival, which in 2013 was held across two weekends for the first time. A second leg in Europe went from 3 November Abu Dhabi to 7 March 2014 Moscow. Among the dates were Dublin, Amsterdam, Oslo and Belfast, their first shows in Northern Ireland in almost 30 years.
