The Belgian Sportsman of the Year is elected at the end of each year by professional sportjournalists and former winners, [1] annually since 1967. A Belgian Sportswoman of the Year title has been given out since 1975. Top winners include Ingrid Berghmans (8 wins), Kim Clijsters (8) and Eddy Merckx (6). [2]
More categories were added in 1997, with the Belgian Sportsteam of the Year, 1998 with the Belgian Talent of the Year, 2010 with the Belgian Paralympic Athlete of the Year and lastly in 2011 the Belgian Coach of the Year. [3]
The youngest male winner of the Belgian sportsman of the year is Remco Evenepoel who won the award at the age of 19. [4] The youngest female winner is Carine Verbauwen, who won the award at the age of 13. [5]

The Dutch Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year are chosen annually by Dutch athletes from a shortlist compiled by sports journalists. The elections are organized by the Dutch Olympic Committee. All the winners receive a Jaap Eden Award to remember their title.
Tia Hellebaut is a retired Belgian track and field athlete, as well as a chemist, who started out in her sports career in the heptathlon, and afterwards specialized in the high jump event. She has cleared 2.05 metres both indoors and outdoors.

Marc Sluszny was an adventurer, sportsman, keynote speaker, mental coach and author. Through extreme sports he searched to overcome his mental and physical boundaries. He broke several records and participated many times in the European and World Championships in different disciplines. During the last few years, Marc focused on coaching executive teams and high-level athletes.
Félix Veronique Denayer is a Belgian professional field hockey player who plays as a midfielder for Dragons and the Belgium national team.
Jolien D'hoore is a Belgian former track and road cyclist, who rode professionally between 2007 and 2021 for the Topsport Vlaanderen–Ridley, Lotto–Belisol Ladies, Wiggle High5, Mitchelton–Scott and SD Worx teams. D'hoore is a 29-time national track champion as well as a four-time national road champion at all competition levels. She won the bronze medal in the omnium at the 2016 Olympics and during her career was one of the strongest sprinters in the women's peloton. Since retiring as a rider, D'hoore now works as a directeur sportif for UCI Women's Continental Team AG Insurance–Soudal–Quick-Step.
Arthur Georges Stanislas Henri Van Doren is a Belgian professional field hockey player who plays as a defender for Dutch Hoofdklasse club Bloemendaal and the Belgium national team.
Emma Meesseman is a Belgian professional basketball player for Fenerbahçe of the Women's Basketball Super League and EuroLeague Women. After playing basketball in Belgium, Meesseman was drafted by the Washington Mystics with the 19th overall pick in the second round of the 2013 WNBA draft. She has also played for the Belgian national team and several European professional teams. She was named the 2011 FIBA Europe Young Women's Player of the Year and the 2019 WNBA Finals MVP. Meesseman studied physical education at Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
Lotte Kopecky is a Belgian road and track racing cyclist, who rides for UCI Women's WorldTeam SD Worx, and the 2023 UCI Elite Women's World Road Race Champion. She is a multiple world champion on the track, having won six gold medals across four UCI Track Cycling World Championships; she won the madison in 2017 and 2022, the points race in 2021 and 2023, and the elimination race in 2022 and 2023.
The Belgian National Sports Merit Award is an annual award handed out to a Belgian sportsperson or -team for exceptional merit. Players can only win the award once during their career, making this trophy one of the most prestigious in Belgian sports. The trophy is awarded by a jury consisting of (former) sports champions, influential sports people and sports journalists and is led by the mayor of Brussels.
Nina Derwael is a Belgian artistic gymnast. She is the 2020 Olympic champion, a two-time World champion, and a two-time European champion on the uneven bars. She is the 2019 European Games champion on the balance beam, as well as a two-time Belgian national all-around champion.
Peter Genyn is a Paralympian sportsman from Belgium. Initially Genyn competed as a wheelchair rugby player before switching to track and field athletics in 2014 where he competes in category T51 sprint events. In 2016 he became the world record holder in the T51 men's 400 metres sprint.
Carine Verbauwen is a Belgian swimmer. She had the best styles for the 100 and 200 meter backstroke.
Laurens Devos is a Belgian table tennis player who was the Paralympic champion in men's singles class 9. He has also won four European titles and most recently, a world title for his country.
The Flemish Sportsjewel is an annual award given to a Flemish sportsperson or -team, either following a remarkable achievement or at the end of an exceptional career in sports.
Jeroen Kampschreur is a Dutch paralympic skier. Kampschreur was born without shinbones, which resulted in both of his legs being amputated above the knee at age one. Consequently, he began using a wheelchair. On 23 March 2018, Kampschreur was knighted in the Order of Orange-Nassau.

Annie Lambrechts is a Belgian roller skating champion. She was awarded the Belgian Sportsman of the year prize in 1981. The same year she was also given the Belgian National Sports Merit Award. She won a total of 140 Belgian titles, 22 European titles, 2 gold and 2 bronze medals at the 1981 World Games. Between 1964 and 1981 she won 19 worldtitles. She was also the first Belgian to win the Flemish Sportsjewel in 1982.
