Benniganahalli is an elevated metro station on the east-west Purple Line of Bengaluru's Namma Metro transit system. In its vicinity are the Tin Factory Junction leading towards Baiyappanahalli, the Benniganahalli Lake, and the Tin Factory Bus Stop. [1] [2] It was opened to the public on 9 October 2023 without any inauguration ceremony. [3] [4]
The station lies between the Baiyappanahalli station in the west and the Krishnarajapura (KR Pura) station in the east. Baiyappanahalli, part of the first stretch of the entire Namma Metro system, was inaugurated in 2011, [5] and the eastern section of the line from KR Pura to the terminus at Kadugodi was inaugurated in March 2023. However, Benniganahalli station could not be opened due to time-consuming work involving the installation of a girder bridge over railway lines. [6] Trial runs on the stretch commenced on 27 July 2023, [7] [8] and operations finally commenced on 9 October 2023, with an official inauguration conducted virtually by the prime minister later. [9] [10]
The elevated station stands on pillars above the centre of the Old Madras Road. Access is from a new footbridge connecting it with both sides of the road. [11]
Usage of the eastern section of the line increased substantially following the opening of the station. Prior to opening an estimated 28,000 daily passenger journeys to Whitefield were made but on the day of opening the figure increased to 61,179 owing to the connection to KR Pura. Additional baggage scanners were installed soon after the station opened to alleviate long queues forming at security checks. The station is popular with IT professionals commuting from Hoskote and Hebbal to the International Technology Park. [12]

There are 2 Entry/Exit points - A and B. Commuters can use either of the points for their travel.
In connection with the metro line Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has carried out access improvement work and installed facilities at Benniganahalli Lake immediately north west of the station. Pai Layout residents requested that BMRCL name the metro station after the lake. [13]
Namma Metro, also known as Bengaluru Metro, is a rapid transit system serving the city of Bengaluru, the capital city of the state of Karnataka, India. It is the second-longest operational metro network in India with an operational length of 76.95 kilometers, just behind Delhi Metro. The Purple Line is a part of the Namma Metro rail system for the city of Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. As of 2023, the line is 43.49 km (27.02 mi) long and spans 37 stations from Challaghatta in the southwest to Whitefield (Kadugodi) to the east. The Purple Line is mostly elevated, with 31 elevated stations, 5 underground stations and 1 at-grade station. The Line passes through many prime activity centers of the city including Whitefield, Krishnarajapura, MG Road, Vidhana Soudha and Majestic station, which is an interchange station between Purple and Green Lines. Phase I of the Purple Line was the first underground metro section in South India.
The Blue Line or ORR-Airport Metro Line is part of the Namma Metro rail network for the city of Bangalore, Karnataka, India. It consists of two sections - Phase-2A and Phase-2B. Construction of Phase-2A began in August 2021. Construction of Phase-2B began in February 2022. The 58.19 km line connects Central Silk Board with the Kempegowda International Airport. The Line is mostly elevated but also has an at-grade (surface) section close to the Airport and 2 short underground sections where it passes the Jakkur Aerodrome and Yelahanka AFB. There are 30 stations on the line of which the two station/s at the Airport may be at surface level or underground. Blue Line will have interchanges with the Yellow Line at Central Silk Board, Purple Line at KR Pura, Pink Line at Nagawara and with the future /proposed Orange Line at Hebbal.
Baiyyappanahalli or New Baiyyappanahalli Extension is one of the neighbourhoods in Bengaluru,located in the eastern part of the city. It is part of C. V. Raman Nagar in East Bengaluru. The area is a transport hub and popular for Baiyappanahalli metro station,Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal and Baiyyappanahalli railway station.
Shivaji Nagar is an upcoming important underground metro station on the North-South corridor of the Pink Line of Namma Metro in Bengaluru, India. Trial runs on the new Kengeri - Challaghatta section of the line commenced on 29 July 2023. The station was opened and scheduled services commenced on 9 October 2023.
