Christiaan Frederik Beyers Smit is a South African politician who has been a permanent delegate on the National Council of Provinces since May 2014. Smit is a member of the Limpopo delegation and a party member of the Democratic Alliance.

Political career

Smit is a former ward councillor of the Mogalakwena Local Municipality. [1] In October 2017, he was elected as one of two deputy provincial chairpersons of the Democratic Alliance. [2]

Parliamentary career

Following the general election that was held on 7 May 2014, Smit was elected as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces from Limpopo. He was sworn in as a Member of Parliament on 22 May 2014. [3] In June 2014, he was assigned to his committees for the 2014–2019 term. [4]

On 23 May 2019, Smit took office for his second term as a permanent delegate to the NCOP. [4] The DA appointed him as their shadow chairperson. [5] He was named to his new committees on 24 June 2019. [4]

National Council of Provinces

The National Council of Provinces (NCOP) is the upper house of the Parliament of South Africa under the (post-apartheid) constitution which came into full effect in 1997. It replaced the former Senate, but is very similar to that body, and to many other upper houses of legislatures throughout the world, in that its purpose is to represent the governments of the provinces, rather than directly representing the people.

Smalle was the Democratic Alliance's Limpopo Premier candidate for the 2019 election.

Désirée van der Walt

Désirée van der Walt is a South African politician. She has been serving as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa for the opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) since 2014. She previously held the post from 2004 to 2010. She represented the party in the Limpopo Provincial Legislature from 2010 to 2014. Van der Walt has held various leadership positions in the Democratic Alliance and the Shadow Cabinet.

Marcelle Frieda Maritz is a South African politician who has been serving as a Member of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature since 2019. She is a member of the Freedom Front Plus (FF+) and the party's provincial leader. She served as a municipal councillor of the Mogalakwena Local Municipality prior to her appointment to provincial legislature. Maritz was a member of the Democratic Alliance (DA) until 2015, when she resigned from the party after allegations of racism. The DA soon laid criminal charges regarding racism against her in 2019.

Ockert Stefanus "Okkie" Terblanche is a South African politician and retired police general serving as the Shadow Deputy Minister of Police since June 2019. He has been a Member of the National Assembly since May 2019. He represented the Western Cape in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) from October 2015 to May 2019. Terblanche is a member of the Democratic Alliance (DA).

Thembinkosi Tevin Apleni is a South African politician who has been serving as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces since May 2019. Willem Faber South African politician

Willem Frederik Faber is a South African businessman and politician who has been serving as a Member of the National Assembly since May 2019. He was a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces, the upper house of Parliament, from May 2009 to May 2019. Faber is a member of the Democratic Alliance (DA).

Thandi Gloria Mpambo-Sibhukwana was a South African educator and legislator. She was a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces from 2014 to 2019 and a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa from 2019 until her death in 2020. She was a member of the Democratic Alliance (DA) and a member of the Portfolio Committee on Social Development.

Simo Ezra Mfayela was a South African politician from KwaZulu-Natal who served as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces from May 2019 until his death. He was the sole permanent representative of the Inkatha Freedom Party and the deputy provincial chairperson of the party. Mfayela was the son of the former senator Senzo Mfayela.

Lindiwe Christabola Bebee is a South African politician. She has been serving as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces since May 2019. A member of the African National Congress, she is the whip of the KwaZulu-Natal provincial delegation. From May 2009 to May 2019, Bebee served as a Member of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature.

Bertha Peace Mabe is a South African politician serving as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since February 2017. She previously held the post from May 2014 until August 2016. She served as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces from Gauteng between May 2009 and April 2014.
