The National Council of Provinces (NCOP) is the upper house of the Parliament of South Africa under the (post-apartheid) constitution which came into full effect in 1997. It replaced the former Senate,but is very similar to that body,and to many other upper houses of legislatures throughout the world,in that its purpose is to represent the governments of the provinces,rather than directly representing the people.
Cathlene Labuschagne is a South African politician serving as a permanent delegate to the National Council of the Provinces from the Western Cape since 2014. Labuschagne is a party member of the Democratic Alliance.
Thembinkosi Tevin Apleni was a South African politician who served as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces from May 2019 until his death in May 2023. He was one of six permanent delegates from the Eastern Cape. Apleni was a member of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and served as the party's provincial treasurer from November 2022 until May 2023. He was previously the party's provincial secretary from 2015 until 2018 when he was elected deputy provincial chairperson.
Carin Visser is a South African politician. Since 2019 she has been serving as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces. She is a member of the North West provincial delegation. She was a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa from 2017 to 2018 and a Member of the North West Provincial Legislature from 2018 to 2019. She was also a municipal councillor of the Tswaing Local Municipality. Visser served the provincial chairperson of the Democratic Alliance (DA) from 2015 to 2020.
Willem Frederik Faber is a South African businessman and politician who served as a Member of the National Assembly from May 2019 until April 2024. Prior to serving in the NCOP,he was a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces,the upper house of Parliament,from May 2009 to May 2019. Faber is a member of the Democratic Alliance (DA).
Sam Zandamela is a South African politician from Mpumalanga who has served as a member of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature since August 2022,and previously from July 2018 to May 2019. A member of the Economic Freedom Fighters party,he previously served as the party's deputy provincial chairperson. Zandamela served as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces from May 2019 until August 2022.
Bridget Staff Masango is a South African Democratic Alliance politician from Gauteng who has been a Member of the National Assembly since October 2015. Within the DA's Shadow Cabinet,she served as Shadow Minister of Social Development from October 2015 until June 2024. From May 2014 to October 2015,Masango served as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces.
Dikgang Mathews Stock is a South African politician from the Northern Cape serving as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since 2019. Prior to his election to the National Assembly,he served as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces from 2014 to 2019. Stock is a member of the African National Congress.
Denis Joseph is a South African politician from the Western Cape. A member of the Democratic Alliance (DA),he was elected as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces in 2011. He served in the NCOP until his election to the Western Cape Provincial Parliament in 2014. After the 2019 election,Joseph returned to Parliament to serve as an MP in the National Assembly until 2024.
Eugene Jeffrey von Brandis was a South African politician and retired army officer. A member of the Democratic Alliance,he served as the speaker of the George Local Municipality from 2007 to 2009,when he was elected to the Western Cape Provincial Parliament. After serving one term in the provincial parliament,he was elected to the National Council of Provinces after the 2014 general election. He served in the NCOP until his death in May 2015.
Isaac Mbulelo Sileku is a South African politician who has been the Western Cape's Provincial Minister of Mobility since 2024. A member of the Democratic Alliance,he has been a Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament since 2022. Sileku previously served as the Deputy Executive Mayor of the Theewaterskloof Local Municipality from 2016 until 2019 and as a Permanent Delegate to the National Council of Provinces from the Western Cape from 2019 to 2022.
Bronwynn Anne Engelbrecht is a South African politician and pharmacist. A member of the Democratic Alliance,Engelbrecht served as the DA City of Tshwane ward 42 councillor until 2015 when she was appointed as a Permanent Delegate to the National Council of Provinces from Gauteng. After leaving parliament in 2019,Engelbrecht returned to the Tshwane city council as a DA PR councillor. In February 2021 she was sworn in as a member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.
Masefako Clarah Dikgale is a South African politician who was a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa from 2019 to 2023. Prior to serving in the National Assembly,she served as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces from Limpopo from 2009 to 2019. Dikgale is a member of the African National Congress.
Zola Mlenzana is a South African politician. A former member of the Congress of the People,he was elected as a Permanent Delegate to the National Council of Provinces from the Eastern Cape in 2009. In 2014 he resigned from COPE and rejoined the African National Congress. Mlenzana was elected to the National Assembly in 2019.
Farhat Essack is a South African politician who has been a Democratic Alliance (DA) Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since April 2022. Esaack had previously served as a Thaba Chweu Local Municipality councillor from 1996 to 2014 and as a Permanent Delegate to the National Council of Provinces from Mpumalanga from 2014 to 2019.
Hildegard Sonja Boshoff is a South African politician who has served as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces from Mpumalanga twice,from 2013 to 2014 and again since 2019. She served as a member of the National Assembly from 2014 to 2019. Boshoff is a member of the Democratic Alliance.
Mmamora Lilliet Mamaregane is a South African politician who has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the Limpopo Provincial Legislature since October 2022. Before that she served in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) since 2019. She is an active member and former Provincial Secretary of the ANC Women's League in Limpopo.
Tebogo Portia Mamorobela is a South African politician who has been the Deputy Speaker of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature since June 2024. She represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the provincial legislature since October 2022. Before that,she served a brief stint in the National Council of Provinces from February to October 2022. She was formerly a local councillor in Makhado.
Shahidabibi Shaikh is a South African politician who has been the Chairperson of the Select Committee on Security and Justice in the National Council of Provinces since 2019. A member of the African National Congress,she has been a permanent delegate to the NCOP from Limpopo since 2019. Shaikh had previously served in the Limpopo Provincial Legislature from 2014 to 2019.
Mandla Isaac Rayi is a South African politician who has served in the National Council of Provinces as a permanent delegate representing the African National Congress from the Eastern Cape since 2014. As of June 2019,he is the chairperson of the Select Committee on Trade and Industry,Economic Development,Small Business Development,Tourism,Employment and Labour.
