Mandisa Makesini is a South African politician who has been a Permanent Delegate to the National Council of Provinces from the Free State since 2024. She previously served in the Free State Provincial Legislature and in the National Assembly of South Africa. Makesini is a former provincial chairperson of the Economic Freedom Fighters.
Makesini was elected to the Free State Provincial Legislature in the 2014 general election alongside Jacob Tshabalala as one of two members of the Economic Freedom Fighters . [1] At the EFF's provincial conference in September 2018,Makesini was elected provincial chairperson of the EFF,defeating incumbent Kgotso Morapela by three votes. On her election,Makesini said that it was a sign that patriarchy was being defeated. [2]
Makesini was re-elected to a second term in the provincial legislature in 2019. [3] She unsuccessfully sought re-election as EFF provincial chairperson at the party's conference in November 2022,losing to Mapheule Liphoko in a vote that went 343 for Liphoko and 278 votes for Makesini. EFF President Julius Malema lamented her loss,criticising the delegates for not electing a woman as provincial chairperson. [4]
Makesini resigned from the provincial legislature in January 2023 and was replaced by Liphoko. [5] She was subsequently sworn in as a member of the National Assembly of South Africa on 8 February 2023. [6]
Following the 2024 general election,Makesini was appointed to take up a seat in the National Council of Provinces where she represents the Free State as the sole EFF member of the provincial delegation. [7]
Mandisa Sibongile Mashego is a South African politician and feminist. A former member of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF),she served as the party's provincial chairperson in Gauteng from 2018 to 2020. She was also a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature from 2014 to 2020.
Naledi Nokukhanya Chirwa-Mpungose is a South African politician and former student activist from Gauteng. She represents the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the National Council of Provinces. She was formerly a member of the National Assembly between May 2019 and June 2024. She rose to prominence through her involvement in the #FeesMustFall student protests at the University of Pretoria between 2015 and 2016.
Thembinkosi Tevin Apleni was a South African politician who served as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces from May 2019 until his death in May 2023. He was one of six permanent delegates from the Eastern Cape. Apleni was a member of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and served as the party's provincial treasurer from November 2022 until May 2023. He was previously the party's provincial secretary from 2015 until 2018 when he was elected deputy provincial chairperson.
Nosipho Makamba-Botya is a South African politician who served as a member of the National Assembly of South Africa from June 2023 until May 2024,and represented the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). She previously served as an EFF councillor in the City of Cape Town and before that as a Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament. She became an MPP in May 2019 and served as the party's chief whip. Makamba-Botya was also the deputy chairperson of the EFF in the province.
Bertha Peace Mabe is a South African politician serving as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since February 2017. She previously served in the National Assembly from May 2014 until August 2016. She served as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces from Gauteng between May 2009 and April 2014. Mabe is a member of the African National Congress and the party's unsuccessful 2016 Mogale City mayoral candidate.
Sam Zandamela is a South African politician from Mpumalanga who has served as a member of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature since August 2022,and previously from July 2018 to May 2019. A member of the Economic Freedom Fighters party,he previously served as the party's deputy provincial chairperson. Zandamela served as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces from May 2019 until August 2022.
