Billa II is the soundtrack album, composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, for the 2012 film of the same name, directed by Chakri Toleti that stars Ajith Kumar as the title character. The album consists of six tracks; five songs and a theme music track. [1] Na. Muthukumar penned all lyrics for the songs. [2]
Although a new director (Chakri Toleti) was chosen to direct the prequel, Yuvan Shankar Raja, who had worked on the score of Billa (2007), was retained as the composer of Billa II , which became his fifth project starring Ajith Kumar. The soundtrack album was reported to feature six tracks, including one promotional video song. [1] It consists of five songs and a theme music track, an altered version of the original 2007 Billa theme. Yuvan Shankar Raja had composed a sixth song for a belly dance sequence, which was not included in the soundtrack, but featured only in the film. [3] [4] Na. Muthukumar agreed to write the lyrics, [2] replacing Pa. Vijay who had worked on Billa's lyrics. In a departure from convention, the lyrics were penned first which were set to tunes later. [5]
Yuvan Shankar Raja revealed in 2014 told that he tried to recruit Shakira for the project but failed because of "budget troubles". [6] In late January 2012, Yuvan Shankar Raja left for Florida, US, Chakri's home place, to finish the compositions. [7] During the trip, he had composed a "melody song". [8] Singer Krish informed via Twitter that he had lent his voice for a R&B style song that would be the introduction track of the protagonist, [9] [10] while Shweta Pandit was reported to have performed one song, too. [11] However, Krish's version was later replaced by Yuvan Shankar himself. [12] Re-recording works began by May 2012 in Mumbai. [13]
The audio launch was initially to be released in mid-March 2012, but was then pushed to second week of April. Actor Rajinikanth was approached to unveil the soundtrack, with the team supposedly rescheduling the audio launch to suit Rajinikanth's dates, who had left for London for the filming of his film Kochadaiyaan . [14] [15] The soundtrack was unveiled on 1 May 2012, coinciding with Ajith Kumar's birthday. [16] Sony Music Entertainment that marketed the album of Ajith Kumar's previous film Mankatha , acquired the music rights of Billa II as well for an unprecedented sum after some weeks-long negotiations. [17] In the week before the audio launch, Sony Music began releasing teasers of each of the songs every day and promoted them across social platforms. [18] [19] The Telugu version of the soundtrack was released on 5 June 2012 at the Taj Deccan in Hyderabad. [20]
Rediff's Pavithra Srinivasan gave it 3 stars out of 5 and went to add that Yuvan Shankar Raja had "infused certain freshness to the music", describing it as "quite promising". [21]

Yuvan Shankar Raja is an Indian Composer and Singer-songwriter. He mainly scores music for Tamil films along with few Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi films. Considered a versatile composer, he is particularly known for his use of Western music elements and often credited with having introduced hip hop to the Tamil film and music industry and started the "era of remixes" in Tamil Nadu which included mixed EDM and jazz. He is frequently referred to as the "BGM King" and the "Young Maestro" of Tamil Film Music. Yuvan has won two Filmfare Awards South, five Mirchi Music Awards South, three Vijay Awards and two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards.
Billa is a 2007 Indian Tamil-language action thriller film directed by Vishnuvardhan. It is a remake of the 1980 film of the same name starring Rajnikanth, which itself is a remake of 1978 Hindi film Don, starring Amithabh Bachchan. The film stars Ajith Kumar who plays a double role as an underworld don and his friendly look-alike alongside Nayanthara and Namitha, while Prabhu, Rahman, Adithya Menon, and Santhanam playing supporting roles. It is produced by L. Suresh and Abdurrahman M while featuring a score and soundtrack by Yuvan Shankar Raja, cinematography by Nirav Shah and editing by A. Sreekar Prasad.
Aegan is a 2008 Indian Tamil-language masala film directed and co-written by Raju Sundaram and produced by Ayngaran International. It stars Ajith Kumar and Nayanthara, with Suman, Jayaram, Nassar, Navdeep, and Piaa Bajpai in supporting roles. The music was composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja with cinematography by Arjun Jena and editing by V. T. Vijayan. It is loosely based on the 2004 Bollywood film, Main Hoon Na.
Thillalangadi (transl. Defiler) is a 2010 Indian Tamil-language action comedy film directed by M. Raja. A remake of the 2009 Telugu film Kick, it stars Raja's brother Jayam Ravi along with Tamannaah Bhatia, and Shaam, who reprises his role from Kick, and a supporting cast including Prabhu, Suhasini Maniratnam, Vadivelu, Santhanam, and Sanchita Shetty. The film features a soundtrack composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, whilst S. Thaman's original score has been reused. The film, produced by Raja's father Editor Mohan and distributed by Sun Pictures, was released on 23 July 2010.
Vaanam (transl. Sky) is a 2011 Indian Tamil-language action drama film written and directed by Krish. A remake of his own Telugu film Vedam (2010), the film features an ensemble cast of Silambarasan, Bharath, Prakash Raj, Anushka Shetty, Santhanam, Sonia Agarwal and Saranya Ponvannan. The score and soundtrack were composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, while cinematography and editing were handled by Nirav Shah and Anthony, respectively. The film, jointly produced by VTV Ganesh and R. Ganesh, and was distributed by Dayanidhi Azhagiri's Cloud Nine Movies.
Paiyaa is the soundtrack to the 2010 Indian Tamil-language film of the same name, directed by N. Linguswamy and starring Karthi and Tamannaah Bhatia. Thanga Meenkal is a 2013 Indian Tamil-language drama film directed by Ram in his second directorial venture after Kattradhu Thamizh. Rajapattai is a 2011 Indian Tamil-language masala film co-written and directed by Suseenthiran based on a story by Seenu Vasan. The film stars Vikram and Deeksha Seth. The music was composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, the film is produced by Prasad V. Potluri's newly launched PVP Cinema on a budget of ₹390 million (US$4.9 million). The story revolves around the issue of land grabbing and how the protagonist becomes involved in it. The film was also dubbed into Telugu and was released as Veedinthe on 30 December 2011 and into Hindi as Main Hoon Dada No.1 in 2013.

The production house sold the musical rights at an altitudinous price of ₹20 million (US$250,000), setting a record price for audio rights acquirement which were sold to Sony Music India. It was released during a live concert on 1 September 2012. The film's Telugu version, Yeto Vellipoyindhi Manasu, also directed by Gautham Menon, reuses the same soundtrack.

The album consists of six tracks. Pa. Vijay penned all lyrics for the songs. It was released on 19 September 2013. The album opened at number one on iTunes India within a few minutes after its release at midnight, which, according to Sify, "no Tamil album has done before".

The film was initially announced with Yuvan Shankar Raja as the composer, who left the project citing schedule conflicts and several other composers were rumoured to score music before the team approached Imman as the music director. This film marked Imman's first collaboration with Ajith Kumar and Siva.

Produced by Boney Kapoor under Bayview Projects LLP and Zee Studios, the film stars Ajith Kumar, Huma Qureshi and Kartikeya Gummakonda. Moondru Per Moondru Kadal is the soundtrack album for 2013 Indian Tamil-language romance film of the same name starring Arjun, Cheran, Vimal, Surveen Chawla, Muktha Bhanu and Lasini. The album was released by Sony Music India on 18 April 2011 and met with positive reviews from critics.
