Black Widow (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) is the film score for the 2021 Marvel Studios film Black Widow . The score was composed by Lorne Balfe, with the soundtrack album being released by Hollywood Records on July 9, 2021.
Alexandre Desplat was revealed to be composing the music for Black Widow in January 2020. [1] Late in the film's post-production, Lorne Balfe replaced Desplat as composer, which Desplat confirmed in May 2020. [2] [3] Balfe's score was released digitally by Marvel Music and Hollywood Records on July 9, 2021. [4] Black Widow director Cate Shortland believed Balfe had created a "soulful score that is really Russian". [5]
Balfe employed London's Metro Voices for a 118-piece orchestra and a 60-voice choir singing Russian lyrics, with a 40-voice male choir and 20-voice female choir, doing takes with and without lyrics. These lyrics were adapted from Russian poetry by Alexander Pushkin, Leo Tolstoy and Mikhail Lermontov. Balfe said that "the music of the Red Army was also a massive influence", and that he "wanted to give Yelena that Red Army robustness with her theme." Balfe avoided more cliché Russian instruments like balalaikas as they "didn't fit the film" and could "become a parody". [6]

A cover of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Think Up Anger, featuring Malia J is used in the film's opening credits. [7] [8] Also featured are "American Pie" by Don McLean, Yelena Belova's favorite song as a child, "Cheap Thrills" by Sia and Sean Paul, "Bond Fights Snake" by John Barry, "Atshan Ya Zeina" by Ahmed Mohamed El Gaml, and "Rise Ye Soldiers of Salvation". Alan Silvestri's Avengers theme is also referenced in Balfe's score. [8] [9]

She is depicted as a spy and was the second modern-era character to use the Black Widow name, but later took on the Crimson Widow name. Originally, Yelena was a foe of Natasha Romanova and was sent to kill her, but the two later became allies. As Super-Adaptoid, she was one of the members of the High Council of A.I.M. She reverted to her original codename. Black Widow, in 2017. But took on the Crimson Widow codename in 2018.

A veteran of Hans Zimmer's Remote Control Productions, Balfe is known for his composing music for big-budget films like 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi,Terminator Genisys, Mission: Impossible – Fallout, the DreamWorks Animation films Home and Penguins of Madagascar, as well as the video games Assassin's Creed: Revelations, Assassin's Creed III, Crysis 2, Skylanders, the Call of Duty franchise and the new fanfare for Skydance Media, which debuted in The Adam Project. He has also scored the television series The Bible, Marcella, The Crown, and Genius, the latter for which he was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music.

Moonrise Kingdom (Original Score) is the accompanying score album for the identically named 2012 coming-of-age comedy-drama film released on June 19, 2012 through ABKCO Records. The score album featured six tracks, including five themes from the soundtrack composed by Alexandre Desplat and one theme by Mark Mothersbaugh, who scored for Anderson's early films. It was recorded using old microphones from the EMI archives, used by the royal family, in order to create a vintage and dated sound. Penguins of Madagascar: Music from the Motion Picture is the score album for the 2014 film Penguins of Madagascar. The fourth instalment and spin-off of the Madagascar film series, features original score composed by Lorne Balfe, in his first solo debut in a DreamWorks Animation film. He previously wrote additional music for the previous two Madagascar films and also co-composed the score of Megamind (2012) with Hans Zimmer. Zimmer and his music company Remote Control Productions produced the original soundtrack.
Rise of the Guardians: Music From The Motion Picture is the score album to the 2012 of the same name, composed by Alexandre Desplat. The film marked Desplat's maiden score for a computer-animated film as well as his DreamWorks' film, not to be scored by either Hans Zimmer or his Remote Control Productions family of composers. The score was recorded at Abbey Road Studios and AIR Studios in London and features collaborations with London Symphony Orchestra and London Voices performing. The David Fincher-directed film, written by Eric Roth and Robin Swicord is loosely based on the 1922 short story of the same name by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and stars Brad Pitt as the titular character, alongside Cate Blanchett, Taraji P. Henson, Mahershala Ali, Julia Ormond, Jason Flemyng, Elias Koteas, and Tilda Swinton.
