Bonny Khalwale is a Kenyan politician,the current Senator for Kakamega County and a former medical doctor.
Khalwale,was chairman of the Parliamentary Accounts Committee in the 9th Kenyan Parliament,where he made a reputation for leading censure motions against high profile cabinet ministers. He was appointed on a similar role in the 10th Kenyan Parliament.
He was educated at Musingu High school before proceeding to Kakamega School for his A levels. [1] He graduated from The University of Nairobi with a degree in Medicine in 1987.
He first ventured into politics in 2002 by winning the Ikolomani Constituency Parliamentary Seat on a NARC party ticket. In 2007,he retained the same seat on a New Ford Kenya party ticket.
His election as an MP in the 2007 Kenyan parliamentary election was nullified in February 2011. [2] Dr Bonny Khalwale won back his Ikolomani seat on 23 May 2011,beating off a strong challenge from the Orange Democratic Movement,the dominant party in the region.
Voters in Ikolomani handed New Ford Kenya’s Dr Khalwale 13,208 votes,followed closely by Mr Bernard Shinali of ODM with 10,702. Ford People’s Collins Matemba came a distant third with 293 votes. A total of 24,592 voters out of the registered 35,833 voted in the 63 polling stations in a by-election were seen as a fight between ODM and New Ford-K.
The victory for the man,popularly referred to as the bullfighter,over Mr Shinali,whom he defeated with a slim margin of 200 votes in the 2007 elections,must came in the wake of high-profile campaigns mounted by the then ODM leadership led by Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi.
The defeat was seen as a blow not only to Mr Mudavadi but also ODM which was restamping its authority in the region where it has more MPs than any other,and as a boost to the presidential ambitions of Saboti MP Eugene Wamalwa who along with Housing minister Soita Shitanda for the New Ford-K candidate. [3] The by-election was unique in that it attracted leaders Cyrus Jirongo,Mukhisa Kituyi (from Western,Martha Karua and Peter Kenneth from Mount Kenya region to campaign for him. [4] The group were seen to have come together based on their political activism relationship.
In 2012,he comfortably contested and won the Kakamega Senatorial seat on a UDF Party ticket garnering 248,888 votes seeing off a lesser challenge from the wealthy and flamboyant Lugari politician Cyrus Jirongo who got 145,736 votes. [5]
The National Rainbow Coalition (NARC) is a political party in Kenya. As an alliance,it was in power from 2002 and 2005 when it collapsed due to disagreements between members over a constitutional referendum.
Forum for the Restoration of Democracy–Kenya (FORD–Kenya) is a Kenyan political party. The party has sat in the government of Kenya once,under the National Rainbow Coalition,from 2003 to 2007,having ended forty years of one party rule. The party tends to be more popular among the Luhya people.

Kenneth Otiato Marende is a the former Speaker of the National Assembly of Kenya's 10th Parliament. He was elected Speaker on January 15,2008. Prior to his election as Speaker,Hon. Marende served as the MP for Emuhaya constituency,from 2002 to 2007. Cyrus Shakhalaga Khwa Jirongo,popularly Cyrus Jirongo,is a politician and a former Member of Parliament in Kenya. Between 1978 and 1981 he went to Mang'u High School. He became the chairman of AFC Leopards football club in 1991.
Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya is currently the Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and MSMEs. He is a Kenyan politician who served as the governor of Kakamega County from 2013 to 2022. He was elected on 4 March 2013 and became the first governor of Kakamega County following promulgation of the Constitution of Kenya in 2010. Subsequently,in August 2017,he was reelected for his second term as governor. He is,therefore,the pioneer Governor of Kakamega County under the devolved system of governance in Kenya that established 47 counties. He was previously Minister of State for Planning,National Development and Vision 2030 in the government of the late President Mwai Kibaki. He was appointed on 14 January 2019 as the Council of Governors of Kenya chairperson. Wycliffe Oparanya was also the ODM Party Deputy Party Leader.
Charles Lilechi Lugano (1950–2009) was a Kenyan politician. He belonged to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and was elected to represent the Shinyalu Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya since the 2007 Kenyan parliamentary election.
James Omingo Magara is a Kenyan politician. He belongs to the Jubilee Party and was the MP for South Mugirango Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya from the year 2000 - 2009. He first won the seat in the by-elections in 2001 on Ford-Kenya ticket,replacing his brother Enoch Nyakieya Magara of Ford-Kenya,who had died in a car accident. He retained the seat at the 2002 elections,but now representing Ford-People,and in the 2007 elections representing ODM. He was the assistant minister of trade until December 2009 the High court of Kenya declared the South Mugirango parliamentary seat vacant due to irregularities in the election process,although Magara himself was not found guilty of any rigging. Subsequent South Mugirango by-election was held in June 2010. Magara decamped to the little-known People's Democratic Party (PDP) after being denied ODM's nomination apparently because he had fallen out of favour with party leader Raila Odinga. The by-election was won by Manson Nyamweya of Ford-People,who beat Magara and Ibrahim Ochoi of ODM. In 2013,Omingo Magara Vied for Kisii Senatorial seat where he came far 3rd as Chris Obure worn in the fiercely contest elections
Reverend Moses Akaranga is a Kenyan politician who served as the first governor of Vihiga county having been defeated by Dr. Wilberforce Ottichilo in August 2017. He is also former Member of parliament for Sabatia constituency,having defeated Musalia Mudavadi of KANU from the Sabatia Constituency seat in the 2002 elections on a Ford-Kenya ticket. He served only one term and was defeated by Mudavadi,who was now representing Orange Democratic Movement at the 2007 elections.
