The European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) is a biennial multi-sport event for youth athletes from the 50 member countries of the association of European Olympic Committees. The festival has a summer edition, held for the first time in Brussels in 1991, and a winter edition, which began two years later in Aosta. It was known as the European Youth Olympic Days from 1991 to 1999.

Jahorina Ski Resort, officially named Olympic Center Jahorina, is a mountain resort and the largest and most popular winter tourism resort in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The ski resort is situated on the slopes of Jahorina mountain in Dinaric Alps. It is located 15 km (9.3 mi) from the municipality of Pale in the Republika Srpska entity and 30 km (19 mi) from the Sarajevo International Airport. The Jahorina ski resort hosted alpine skiing competition during the 1984 Winter Olympics.

Figure skating at the 2019 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival was held on 13 and 14 February at the Skenderija Hall in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Medals were awarded in men's and ladies' singles. Eligible skaters must have been born between July 1, 2002 and June 30, 2004.

The 2022 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival was held in Vuokatti, Finland, between 20 and 25 March 2022. The festival was postponed from original dates in February to December 2021. Later it was announced that the games will be moved to 2022 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Vuokatti previously hosted 2001 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival.

Furkan Akar is a Turkish Olympian short track speed skater. He is the first representative of Turkey at the Olympic Games in short track speed skating. He is also the first and only Turkish athlete placed in "Top 10" at the Winter Olympics by finishing 6th in the 1000-meter event at the 2022 Winter Olympics held in Beijing, China. Akar finished third (1:34.780) and gained a bronz medal in the 2023 European Championship 1000 metres race, a first for Turkey.
Figure skating at the 2022 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival was held from 20 to 25 March 2022 at the Vuokatti Arena in Vuokatti, Finland. Medals were awarded in boys' and girls' singles. To be eligible, skaters must have been born between 1 July 2004 and 30 June 2006.
