The 1999 European Youth Summer Olympic Days was the fifth edition of multi-sport event for European youths between the ages of 12 and 18. It was held in Esbjerg, Denmark from 10 to 16 July. A total of eleven sports were contested.

Founded in 1924 as a merger between Esbjerg Boldklub af 1898 and Esbjerg Amatørklub af 1911, the first team play their home games at Blue Water Arena which has been the club's home ground since its opening in 1955.

Lars Christian Olsen is a Danish former footballer and current manager, who was most recently the manager of Esbjerg fB in the Danish Superliga. He started his coaching career with Randers in 2003, guiding them to promotion for the Danish Superliga. He led the team to the 2006 Danish Cup trophy, and Olsen was named 2006 Danish Manager of the Year. He then coached Odense BK from 2007 to 2010.

The Esbjerg Stadium, known as the Blue Water Arena for sponsorship reasons, is a football stadium located within Esbjerg Idrætspark in Esbjerg, Denmark. It is the home ground of Esbjerg fB and has a capacity of 16,942, of which 11,451 is seated. It is currently the second-biggest stadium in Jutland, and the fourth-biggest in Denmark.

Elin Bergblom is a Swedish badminton player. Bergblom started her junior career in Täby Badmintonförening, and won her first national junior title in 1995 in the girls' and mixed doubles event. she represented her country competed at the 1999 European Youth Summer Olympic in Esbjerg, Denmark. Bergblom won the Swedish National senior title 9 times from 2002 to 2012, 5 in women's doubles, 3 in mixed doubles and once in women's singles event. Throughout her career, she ever been played for the Uppsala KFUM. She won the bronze medals at the 2006 and 2008 European Championship in the women's doubles event partnered with Johanna Persson.

Jerry Ruben Lucena is a retired Filipino footballer and currently the manager of the U19 squad of Esbjerg fB.

Örn Arnarson is a swimmer from Iceland. He won his first major title in 1998 at the European SC Championships in Sheffield. There he captured the title in the 200 m backstroke.

The athletics competition at the 1999 European Youth Summer Olympic Days was held from 11 to 14 July. The events took place in Esbjerg, Denmark. Boys and girls born 1982 or 1983 or later participated 24 track and field events, divided equally between the sexes. The programme was reduced that year, with the 1500 metres, 400 metres hurdles and discus throw events being dropped for both boys and girls. It marked the first time that girls' pole vault and 3000 metres were contested.
