Belgrade is the capital and largest city of Serbia. It is located at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers and at the crossroads of the Pannonian Plain and the Balkan Peninsula. The population of the Belgrade metropolitan area is 1,685,563, according to the 2022 census. It is the third most populated of all cities on the Danube river.
The 2009 Summer Universiade, officially known as the XXV Summer Universiade, was celebrated in Belgrade, Serbia from July 1 to 12, 2009. The event has also been organised by a range of co-host cities mostly in Vojvodina, close to Belgrade. It was the largest sporting event ever to be organised by the city. At this Universiade the biggest star was the Russian rhythmic gymnast Evgeniya Kanaeva, who won 5 gold medals. Russia was the leading nation in the medal table, with the most gold medals (27) and most medals (76).
The Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Baku, Azerbaijan. It is currently used mostly for football matches. It served as the home ground for the Azerbaijan national football team until they moved to the Baku Olympic Stadium. It holds 31,200 seats making it the second largest stadium in the country. The stadium is also used by the Azerbaijan Premier League clubs in the final rounds of European competitions.
European Youth Olympic Festival is a multi-sport event held in both summer and winter disciplines every second year. Figure skating is one of the sports in its winter edition. The competition is held in junior category.

Nina Micić is a Serbian snowboarder. She won a silver medal at the 2007 European Youth Winter Olympic Festival in the parallel giant slalom event. She is the first Serbian athlete who won a medal at the Winter EYOF. Nina qualified for 2014 Winter Olympics and became first Serbian Olympic snowboarder in history.

The 1991 European Youth Olympic Days was the inaugural edition of multi-sport event for European youths between the ages of 13 and 18. It was held in Brussels, Belgium from 12 to 21 July. A total of nine sports were contested by 2084 athletes representing 33 European nations. The idea for the competition came from Jacques Rogge, an International Olympic Committee member, as the continent did not have its own multi-sport event at the time.
The 2015 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival was held in Vorarlberg, Austria and Liechtenstein between 25 and 30 January 2015. It was the first time that two countries become hosts in a European Youth Olympic Festival.

Alpine skiing at the 2019 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival was held from 11 to 15 February at Jahorina ski resort and Bjelašnica, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The 2023 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival was held in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy, between 21 and 28 January 2023. This was Italy's second time as host of the winter festival after Aosta 1993. As the 2003 Winter Universiade, in addition of Italy, several events were held in Austria and Slovenia.
The Judo event at the 2022 European Youth Summer Olympic Festival was held at the Sports Park Judo arena in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia, from 26 to 30 July 2022. An NOC may be represented by up to 12 athletes, given that no more than 1 of them participates in any weight class. The final day of competition featured a mixed team event.
