Brandy Wharf is a hamlet in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England, it is part of Waddingham parish . It is situated near and between Waddingham and South Kelsey, where the B1205 crosses the New River Ancholme.
The place name, Brandy Wharf, is modern and is first noticed on the Ordnance Survey map of 1824. [1]
The bridge at Brandy Wharf was constructed in cast iron by engineer John Rennie in 1831. The ribs were cast by The Butterley Company. [2]
Brandy Wharf contains a leisure park and formerly a cider centre which closed in 2014 and is now a Private Residence. The cider centre was originally a cottage and the earliest record is its purchase by Magdalene Porter, who bought it from a yeoman farmer named John Atkinson in 1728. It passed through the hands of William Smith, John Hill and Ann Chapman. Thomas Atkinson bought it in about 1801 and named it the Anchor Inn; it was in the family for 69 years. After improvements to the River Ancholme, trade increased as did the population. [3]
The Humber is a large tidal estuary on the east coast of Northern England. It is formed at Trent Falls, Faxfleet, by the confluence of the tidal rivers Ouse and Trent. From there to the North Sea, it forms part of the boundary between the East Riding of Yorkshire on the north bank and North Lincolnshire on the south bank. Although the Humber is an estuary from the point at which it is formed, many maps show it as the River Humber.
The River Ancholme is a river in Lincolnshire, England, and a tributary of the Humber. It rises at Ancholme Head, a spring just north of the village of Ingham and immediately west of the Roman Road, Ermine Street. It flows east and then north to Bishopbridge west of Market Rasen, where it is joined by the Rase. North of there it flows through the market town of Brigg before draining into the Humber at South Ferriby. It drains a large part of northern Lincolnshire between the Trent and the North Sea.

The Foss Dyke, or Fossdyke, connects the River Trent at Torksey to Lincoln, the county town of Lincolnshire, and may be the oldest canal in England that is still in use. Hibaldstow Bridge is an iron arch bridge that spans the River Ancholme, near the villages of Hibaldstow, in North Lincolnshire, and North Kelsey, in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire. A plaque mounted in the centre of the bridge reads "Erected By JTB Porter & Co. 1889 Lincoln".
Osgodby is a village and civil parish in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. The population of the civil parish, including Kingerby, Kirkby and Usselby, and West Rasen in its own civil parish, was 660 at the 2011 census.
The Sleaford Navigation was a 12.5-mile (20.1 km) canalisation of the River Slea in Lincolnshire, England, which opened in 1794. It ran from a junction with the River Witham, near Chapel Hill to the town of Sleaford through seven locks, most of which were adjacent to mills. Lack of finance meant that it stopped short of its intended terminus, but it gradually grew to be successful financially. The coming of the railways in 1857 led to a rapid decline, and it was officially abandoned by an act of Parliament in 1878, but remained open for a further three years. The lower part of it remained navigable until the 1940s, when it was blocked by a sluice.
Gunhouse Wharf railway station was a goods station in Gunness, Lincolnshire. It was built by the Trent, Ancholme and Grimsby Railway to serve a small wharf on the River Trent. It left the main line at Gunhouse Junction, the main line making an end-on junction with the South Yorkshire Railway's line to Doncaster which had been extended over the River Trent by means of Keadby Swing Bridge.
The Trent, Ancholme and Grimsby Railway was a railway line in north Lincolnshire which commenced at an end on junction with the South Yorkshire Railway where that railway crossed the River Trent near the village of Gunhouse. This was known as Gunhouse Junction but the village has become known as "Gunness". The line ran for about 14 miles (22.5 km) through Frodingham to Wrawby Junction near Barnetby and included railway stations at Appleby, and Elsham. The line also included two branches to Gunness and Gunhouse Wharf on the River Trent. The line was opened on 1 October 1866.
Horkstow Bridge is a suspension bridge that spans the New River Ancholme near the village of Horkstow in North Lincolnshire. It was designed by Sir John Rennie as part of the River Ancholme Drainage Scheme, completed in 1836, and is a Grade II* listed building.
Worlaby is a village and civil parish in North Lincolnshire, England, 6 miles (10 km) south-west from Barton-Upon-Humber and 5 miles (8 km) north-east from Brigg. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 547. It lies on the B1204, and to the east of the River Ancholme. It is one of the five Low Villages – South Ferriby, Horkstow, Saxby All Saints, Bonby, and Worlaby – between Brigg and the Humber estuary, named so because of their position below the northern edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds. Worlaby was part of the Glanford district, a part of the former county of Humberside between 1974 and 1996. Before that it was in the North Lindsey division of Lindsey, Lincolnshire.
