The Brickell World Plaza, also known as 600 Brickell, and formerly known as the Brickell Financial Center, is an office skyscraper in Miami, Florida, United States in the downtown neighborhood and financial district of Brickell at 600 Brickell Avenue. The former Brickell Financial Center Phase I, the Brickell World Plaza is a 520-foot (160 m) skyscraper, one of the tallest buildings in Miami. [2] 600 Brickell is located between the Sixth Street and Seventh Street Metromover stations. [3]
The building contains 600,000 square feet (56,000 m2) of leasable floor space, an eleven-story parking garage with 927 spaces, and a 30,000-square-foot (2,800 m2) ground level public plaza. [4]
The 40-story building topped out in early 2009, but construction was then suspended, or greatly slowed, as the building was still not completed over two years later as of March 2011. The building lost an anchor tenant, a law firm with a $58 million, 10.5-year lease for 15 percent of the building (115,000 sq ft), in early 2009. [5] With the new name of Brickell World Plaza, the building had a scheduled opening date of August 2011. The Foram Group, building developers of Brickell World Plaza, have claimed that this slowed construction was strategic for the purpose of detail, and that after completion they would move their corporate offices into the building. However, the near halt in construction and the loss of a major tenant suggests that the delay was not strategic but due to the 2008 economic crisis and the falling demand for office space due to the excessive construction in Miami at the time.
Early in 2011, 600 Brickell got a $130 million construction mortgage loan from Los Angeles-based Canyon Capital Reality Advisors that would fund the rest of the construction. This was one of the largest loans issued in the city of Miami since the real estate crisis. [6]
When 600 Brickell came online in August–September 2011, it increased Miami's downtown office vacancy to nearly 25%, [7] and Class A Brickell vacancy to over 30%. [8]
The Foram Group hired Jones Lang LaSalle, led by veteran brokers Glenn Gregory and Noël Steinfeld, to handle leasing for the nearly 615,000-square-foot (57,100 m2) building. In 2012, Gregory and Steinfeld said a full-court press to land tenants was finally underway. Shortly before Foram hired Jones Lang, the developer signed a pair of new-to-market tenants — New York-based lender Doral Money and Irvine, California-based mediation and arbitration services firm JAMS — to occupy a combined 30,090 square feet (2,795 m2) at the building. Gregory and Steinfeld have said that they were discussing with prospective tenants for about 300,000 square feet (28,000 m2), although that includes some space being marketed to multiple companies. [9]
The building, at the time of completion, was South Florida's first Cisco Connected Commercial Office Building in partnership with Cisco Systems Inc. [10] It was planned to have its own dedicated hub connecting it to the Internet with a fast and secure connection. The project was designed by the global architecture firm RTKL and its developer was the Foram Group. The Foram Group's intended goal was to set a new gold-standard for technology and sustainability in international commercial property development by creating the most innovative and forward-thinking office building in Miami.
The Brickell World Plaza was the state of Florida's first building to be pre-certified under the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program. [11] In 2012, it did in fact receive LEED Platinum certification, becoming at the time one of very few buildings in the world of its size to receive this rating, the highest available from the US Green Building Council. The building incorporated pioneering work in efficiencies in energy, lighting, water, and material use, and incorporated a variety of other sustainable strategies to reduce its carbon footprint. [12] The building collects all rainfall and condensed water from the cooling towers in a 10,000 US gallons (38,000 L) tank to be reused for irrigation and makeup water for the fountains at Brickell World Plaza. [13]
It is also the first building in South Florida to be a part of Cisco Systems "Cisco Connected Commercial Office Building", [14] which means that it has a fast and secure, dedicated internet connection. The originally planned Brickell Financial Centre (two buildings) was to include office space, a hotel, luxury condominiums, and a public plaza. The actual Brickell World Center does not feature the hotel or condominiums, but the ground level plaza is planned to be a 30,000-square-foot (2,800 m2) public space as well as 18,000 square feet (1,700 m2) of ground level restaurants and cafes, and an outdoor stage where events may be held, occupying the space originally dedicated to the Brickell Financial Centre II. The first eleven floors of the building above the plaza are a parking garage, while the remaining 28 floors are office space. [15] The outside of Brickell World Plaza is lit up at night similar to the Miami Tower. This began before Christmas in December 2011 with a ceremony with governor Rick Scott where a 40-foot wreath was hung on the building. [16]

Brickell Financial Centre Phase II, which had been scheduled for completion in 2011, would have been the tallest building in Miami and Florida upon completion, at 903 feet (275 m). It would have contained 68 floors. [17] The Brickell Financial Centre complex was always planned to be done in two phases, with the second building being constructed after the first, so the second building may still be built, presumably under a different, new name. The second phase was planned to be a mixed-use building, containing several hundred thousand feet of office space, as well as several hundred thousand feet of condominium and hotel space, [18] and would be a substantially larger building than the Brickell World Plaza. [15] The area where BFC II would stand was turned into a parking lot in late 2011 with the completion of Brickell World Plaza and included a small valet structure.
The Four Seasons Hotel and Tower, also known as the Four Seasons Hotel Miami, is a 70-story, 781 feet (238 m) skyscraper in Miami, Florida. Located in downtown Miami's Brickell Financial District, it is the third tallest building in Miami as well as in Florida. The tower contains a Four Seasons Hotel property, office space and several residential condominium units on the upper floors.
Southeast Financial Center is a two-acre development in Miami, Florida, United States. It consists of a 765 feet (233 m) tall office skyscraper and its 15-story parking garage. It was previously known as the Southeast Financial Center (1984–1992), the First Union Financial Center (1992–2003) and the Wachovia Financial Center (2003–2011). In 2011, it retook its old name of Southeast Financial Center as Wachovia merged with Wells Fargo and moved to the nearby Wells Fargo Center.

Citigroup Center is a high-rise office building located at 201 South Biscayne Boulevard in Downtown Miami, Florida. Although Miami Center is not the city's tallest building, it is a symbol of an earlier downtown. Built in 1983, it is older than most of the taller buildings in Miami, which were built in the last decade. In addition, the Miami Center is immediately adjacent to Bayfront Park, and is unobstructed when looking at the skyline from Miami Beach to the east. The building is 484 ft tall and has 34 floors. It is located on Biscayne Boulevard and Southeast 3rd Street, east of the Central Business District and is adjacent to the Southeast Financial Center and the Hotel Intercontinental. The Bayfront Park Metro Station is also located close to the building. The tower consists of 100% office space.
Metropolitan Miami is a mixed-use development consisting of four skyscrapers in the central business district of Downtown Miami, Florida. It was considered at the time one of the largest mixed-use project in the city’s history, given its scope and budget. Brickell City Centre is a large mixed-use complex consisting of two residential high-rise towers, two office buildings, a high-rise hotel, and an interconnected five-story shopping mall and lifestyle center covering 9 acres (36,000 m2) located in the Brickell district of Downtown Miami, Florida. Situated at the junction of Miami Avenue and Eighth Street, it spans up to five blocks to the west of Brickell Avenue and to the south of the Miami River. Contrary to the name, the development is not in the traditional downtown Miami city centre, but in the more recently redeveloped financial district of Brickell. The retail shopping and lifestyle center is operated by Simon Malls.
1450 Brickell, is an all-office skyscraper in the City of Miami, Florida, United States. It is 540 feet tall with 35 floors. It is adjacent to One Broadway in Downtown Miami's southern Brickell Financial District. The building is located on the corner of Brickell Avenue and Broadway. Designed by Nichols Architects, and developed by The Rilea Group, the building contains more than 580,000 square feet (54,000 m2) of office space and 10,000 square feet of ground level retail. The project was one of several new office buildings to open in Downtown Miami in 2010.
The Villa Magna Condominium Complex was an urban development that was planned to rise on a 2.5-acre (1.0-hectare) plot in Brickell, downtown Miami, Florida. It was approved in 2006 by the city council and the Federal Aviation Administration and construction was slated to begin in April 2007. The ending date was approximated to be late 2008 or early 2009; however, the housing crisis of the late 2000s halted the project. The project was revived as The Towers by Foster + Partners in 2016, after FAA approval of supertall heights. Done in the early 2020s the site was sold again to Citadel Group who planned a move to Miami from Chicago.
One Bayfront Plaza is a proposed supertall skyscraper in Miami, Florida, U.S. The building, construction of which has been approved, would stand at 1,049 feet (320 m), with 93 floors,[A] becoming the tallest building in Miami and Florida. One Bayfront Plaza would primarily consist of offices and hotel space, but also would include a retail mall, condominiums, and parking garage on the lower levels, as well as possibly an observation deck at the top. The entire project consists of over 1,400,000 square feet (100,000 m2) of Class A office and hotel space, as well as a total building area of over 4,000,000 square feet (371,612 m2) including the large podium. One Bayfront Plaza is the first skyscraper over 1,000 feet (305 m) to be approved for construction in Miami. The building's primary advocate is real estate developer Tibor Hollo, who has won several awards for his 55 years as a developer in Miami, and is currently the president of Florida East Coast Realty.
Two Hannover Square is a 29-story 431.01 ft (131.37 m) skyscraper at 434 Fayetteville Street in Raleigh, North Carolina with 433,900 square feet (40,310 m2) of office space. Its major tenant is Truist bank. From its opening in 1991 until the completion of RBC Plaza in 2008, it was Raleigh's tallest building.
75 Rockefeller Plaza is a skyscraper on the north side of 51st Street in New York City, originally built as a northern extension of Rockefeller Center.
One Brickell City Centre is a proposed 80 story, 1,040 ft office skyscraper in the city of Miami, Florida. The tower would be part of the existing nine-acre Brickell City Centre development. If built, One Brickell City Centre would be the tallest building in Miami and the Southeastern United States, surpassing the Bank of America Plaza in Atlanta. It would also surpass the height of the not yet constructed One Bayfront Plaza, which is approved at 1,010 ft tall. Demolition on the existing structure is still underway as of January 2024.
Telus Sky, is a 60-storey, 222.3 m (729 ft) mixed-use skyscraper in downtown Calgary, Alberta, Canada. At completion in 2019, the structure building became the third-tallest building in Calgary behind Brookfield Place East and The Bow. As of July 2020, Telus Sky is the 18th tallest building in Canada, though several buildings in Toronto exceeding its height are under construction including The One.
Brickell Flatiron is a residential skyscraper in the Brickell district of Miami, Florida. Brickell Flatiron is 736 feet (224 m) tall, 64 stories, and has 527-units. The luxury condominium is named "flatiron" due to the triangular lot it is built on, similar to the Flatiron Building in New York City. The 698-foot-high tower is one of the tallest buildings in Miami.
The Central Business District (CBD) of Miami is the historic central business district and city center of what has become Greater Downtown Miami in Miami, Florida. Over 92,000 people work in Miami's Central Business District.
Brickell Bayview Center, also known as the Brickell City Tower, is a skyscraper in the Brickell financial district of Miami, Florida, USA, at 80 SW 8th Street. The building is about 330 feet (100 m) with 30 floors and was designed in 1984 by South Miami architectural firm, Hatcher, Zeigler, Gunn and Associates for the Japanese Development Corporation, originally as the World Trade Center Miami Tower. Completed in 1986, the floor-to-ceiling glass facade building once stood alone on the western side of Brickell, which at the time was home to mostly office towers and older low-rise residential buildings. After two residential high-rise building booms, the first in the 2000s, concurrent with the 2000s real estate bubble, and the second in the mid 2010s and early 2020s, the building was virtually surrounded by taller buildings. Solitair Brickell required demolishing a parking ramp to the base of the building to the northeast, Brickell Heights was built directly adjacent to the east, and Nine at Mary Brickell Village was built directly to the south of the building. To the west, even West Brickell saw significant mid-rise development in the 2010s, such as the West Brickell View low income senior housing two blocks to the west. In 2023, another building, the Brickell Gateway Tower, was proposed between it and Solitair.
