The Bridgeport-Spaulding Community School District is a school district headquartered in the Educational Services Center in Bridgeport, a community in Bridgeport Charter Township, Michigan. [2]
It is a part of the Saginaw Intermediate School District and serves Bridgeport and portions of Buena Vista south of Hess Avenue. [3] [4]
In 2013 the Buena Vista School District closed. The Bridgeport-Spaulding Community School District took property of Buena Vista west of Airport and south of Hess as well as areas south of East Holland Road between Airport and Towerline. 135 ex-Buena Vista students were expected to go to Bridgeport-Spaulding. [5] Ultimately 135 former Buena Vista students entered Bridgeport-Spaulding schools in fall 2013. [6]
The schools are Thomas White Elementary School, Martin G. Atkins Elementary-Middle School, and Bridgeport High School. [2] Atkins houses students in grades 2 through 8. Previously the district operated Bridgeport-Spaulding Middle School, which served grades 7 and 8. The school closed in 2009 and Atkins absorbed the school's students and teachers. [7]
Saginaw County, officially the County of Saginaw, is a county located in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 190,124. The county seat is Saginaw. The county was created by September 10, 1822, and was fully organized on February 9, 1835. The etymology of the county's name is uncertain. It may be derived from Sace-nong or Sak-e-nong, as the Sauk tribe is believed by some to have once lived there. Buena Vista is an unincorporated community and census-designated place within Buena Vista Charter Township, Saginaw County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The U.S. Census Bureau has defined a census-designated place (CDP) with the same name for statistical purposes. The CDP has no official status as a municipality and the boundaries defined by the Census Bureau may not precisely correspond to local understanding of the Buena Vista area. The CDP consists of an area adjacent to the city of Saginaw on its east side and mostly east of Interstate 75. The population was 7,845 at the 2000 census.
